"where the moon touches the water"

. biggrin escription:.

Selina's realm is rather odd, since, as far as anyone can tell it isn't set up like a planet. It is shaped primarily like a giant bowl with gates to other realms opening and closing a few miles from the edge constantly. Almost the entire realm is an ocean with a handful of small islands surrounding the largest in the center. Various moons are always visible in the sky, although they never seem to affect the tide overmuch, or it simply isn't possible to tell.

Ocean
The first thing any traveler finds when they sail through the gates into Selina's realm is the ocean, which stretches on for farther than the eye can see. At first glance it appears just as any other ocean, save for the reflectiveness of it. More often then not it is an almost perfect reflection of the sky, giving an odd illusion. The water is also somewhat warmer than many found elsewhere, at least for the first few hundred feet down.

Below the surface it changes ever so slightly. All across the bottom trenches, underwater planes, as well as coral reefs abound. There is even rumor of great treasure hidden beneath the waves, ships caught in the occasional storms that rage across the ocean. Seeking it however is a dangerous path, as more than colorful little fish dwell in these waters.

Islands
In the center of the ocean is a grouping of islands that almost form a ring around the center island. It is here that the water shifts from a great salty expanse to warmer fresh water. It also takes on an almost silvery hue during the night, and at times a almost green sheen in the short days. The water is safe enough however, at least as far as ships go. The water remains deep enough for even larger ships to easily maneuver though the islands.

Most of the islands are small, with just enough room for a handful of trees to grow. A handful though stretch on, giving rise to entire ecosystems. One thing remains in common through all the islands however. To a one they have fresh springs and rivers crisscrossing them. Another similarity to them is that the beaches are sand, long slopes that stretch effortlessly upward, a sand the same shade as the full moon. The only island that this pattern is the crescent shaped island in the center, the largest, and the home of the palace. The harbor of the island is deep, with cliffs rising directly from the water. Elegant docks stretch out from the cliffs, most at hight with the larger ships although there are some that are at level with the water, staircases leading up to the cliffs.

Palace
The palace is a sprawling series of buildings that take up the entire island. Each is done with beauty and flow in mind. The main entrance, library, throne room, main ballroom and various gardens as well as the smaller ballrooms are in the main section of the palace, with open breezeways connecting them. As one wanders farther away from the main entrance however the rooms grow smaller: sitting rooms, dinning halls, studies, and the observatory. The farthest rooms are rarely visited by those not a part of the palace's staff, as it mainly includes the storerooms and private rooms of the staff. Beneath the main part of the palace, specifically the massive if rarely used throne room is the equally massive kitchen, with odd staircases leading up into the main floors. There are a few other rooms built beneath the main floors, but they are those necessary to the smooth running of the castle, and rarely included in a guests' knowledge. Above the main floor are the guest suites as well as more of the smaller rooms. Finally in the highest story is the sprawling quarters of Selina herself.

Throughout the palace themes remain generally the same. The majority of the buildings are done in a smooth almost glowing stone that reflects the light of the moon. The ceilings are high and even in the farthest buildings are large enough for the largest of the fresh water Taariq to pass through with ease. Fountains are common, as well as massive open windows that let in the sound of the water as well as the breeze. Music plays throughout, although even those who have searched have found the source. It is also not uncommon for the decorations to be done in hues of blue, silver and white.

.:Other::
Food
Most often the food served in the palace includes aquatic plants as well as the plants grown in the vegetable gardens grown in the farther sections of the palace. The main dish tends to be a fish of some kind, although it is a random guess to how it will be cooked. Her kitchen staff is forever looking for new ways to cook and serve the food.
For all that there is little hesitation to eat fish, it is frowned upon to catch for sport only.

Staff
The staff in Selina's palace vary greatly. She is welcoming to any who care to work for her although most do tend to be partly aquatic.

Taariq

All
The Taariq vary greatly although there are a few characteristics that remain universal. They all have a very long almost snakelike body build with a slim head. They all also enjoy collecting objects they find of interest, which vary with the breed and with the individual.

Messenger

Appearance
The first of the four breeds is the smallest, most often known as the Messenger. This tiny dragon is very small, fitting perfectly on their favorite perch, someone’s shoulders. The main coloration is fairly even tones of soft green, light blue, or ice tones. The thick mane just behind their head tends to be a darker shade. Like all Taariq it is long and slender with no wings and four feet. The front two have three forward toes and one reversed. The rear have four forward toes. Their body is fairly long for their size, most often about a foot long with a thin whip like tail that is two to three times that length.

Habits
The Messenger Taariq have little mastery of conversation although they can understand basic requests and are wonderful mimics. The sound that they make on their own is a soft usually high “oro” or “ooororororo”. As is common of all Taariq they enjoy collecting things they find interesting or ‘treasure’. The main ones for the Messenger’s are pencils, pens, and generally anything that someone is writing with. Unfortunately they have no hesitation in wrapping their tail around whatever they want from their perch and making off with it, even if it is in someone’s hand. The Messengers are curious creatures and have no real concept of what is off limits. It is not uncommon for them to be found in newly arrived bags or peeking in at the most random times. For all that however they rarely wander out of the palace on their own, although if asked to take something such as a note they are unfailing in delivering it, little matter where so long as there is water nearby. The most curious characteristic of the Messengers though is that when they are surprised or their tail is grabbed they curl their body into a tight ball that is almost impossible to undo from the outside. Their tail however remains at full length, tending to wrap the end around whatever it can, usually someone’s hand. According to Zephyr they make wonderful yoyos.

Abilities
The Messenger is the best at getting from place to place as they can sidestep through water to anywhere, so long as they have a destination in mind. They are also very good at not being noticed. It is not uncommon for them to peek out from someone’s hair with the person completely unaware of the Taariq being there.

Salt Water

The Salt Water Taariq is the largest of the four, and the only breed that doesn’t fit in the palace. They are also the rarest of the four. Of the handful in existence the smallest is large enough to swallow some of the smaller boats by accident. Instead of having a mane like their smaller cousins they have large flowing fins that stretch down their entire length. Their two feet are almost impossible to walk on as they are designed for swimming only. The Salt Water Taariq run to the darker colors, deep blues and even black although there is at least one dark green known to exist. They are very rarely seen and live in the deep trenches. Surprisingly they can somewhat speak although it is fairly hard to understand as they are so large and sound more or less like thunder. Like the rest of the Taariq the Salt Water can sidestep through water but it very rarely does, as it requires a body of water large enough to hold it.

Puddle

The Puddle Taariq are the second smallest of the four. They tend to have the mentality of a rather hyper puppy and full grown are about the size of a large dog. They are also the most diverse in coloration, capable of appearing in silvers, blues, greens, reds, purples, black, and white. These Taariq feature a set of small horns that stretch over their thick manes. Trailing down their back is a stripe of fur the same shade as their mane. The stripe flows down all the way to the tip of their tail, which is a large furred tuft. Just behind their nose two long whip like whiskers. They are the only breed to be unable to sidestep through water.

Fresh Water

The Fresh Water is the most intelligent of the four. They are also the ones who travel most, constantly wandering out to find out the latest events and news. Size wise they are fairly large, able to carry a full grown person with ease although they will pass through most buildings, even if they have to dip their head to do so. Like their smaller Puddle cousins the Fresh Water Taariq have a thick flowing mane and a stripe running down their back to their large furred tail. They also bear a set of horns, which on a full grown adult can reach over five feet, the two whiskers just behind their nose can reach lengths of over ten feet. They are lovers of riddles, books, and art and value knowledge above most else. They are also the most gifted of the four, able to not only sidestep but create illusions, sometimes even taking on the appearance of other creatures.
