Guide to the flock
Chain of Command
PostPosted: Fri Jun 08, 2018 10:18 am

The Three Talons

The flock has Three Leaders of Equal command, all of them female. They represent the three original daughters of the Great Spirit Mother, and the three main branches of Flock life, and command over particular aspects of it.

The Queen
Represents The Eldest sister, Aviania the Warrior-mother Patron Saint of Protection from Earthly dangers, society, survival, and tradition.

Aspects and those she commands: Borders, Unclaimed males, Ranchers, Guards, hunters, warriors, Keeps and Makes the laws of the Flock, though they can be countered by the Talons of the flock. Represents the Past and how it shapes the present and future.

Uniform: When in ceremonial Queen regalia, the Queen wears ornate armor and large, elaborate decorative faux wings on her forelegs, the wings segmented and made to look like they would be flight worthy. The Armor has the Symbol of The Great Mother are etched on her gauntlets and filled with the dust of glowing stones, making the runes glow.

The Oracle
Represents The Middle Sister, Seda the Oracle-Mother patron saint of predictions, The Other World, the afterlife, Change, rebirth, Magic, religion, spirituality, and the Soul.

Aspects and those she commands: Seers, Priestesses, spirits, Scouts, Artisans, predicting the future, warning of potential dangers, all religious or spiritual aspects of the flock and those who deal with it, death, Rituals, and is allowed to push the boundaries of the laws to experiment as the spirits call for it.. Represents the future and its mysteries and possibilities.

Uniform: When in Full Ceremonial Garb, the Oracle wears a long wispy glossimer hood and cape woven out of glittering, glowing fabric, made to look spectral, and a tiara with a brightly glowing Gem placed between the eyes as a Third eye. Glowing paint is applied on the eyelids and tips of claws, and the symbol of the Great Mother is drawn over the chest.

The Hallowed Mother
Represents The youngest Sister, Noria the Medicine-Mother Patron saint of healing

Aspects and those she commands: Sacred Mother, Healers, Scavengers, pharmacists, weavers, Whistlers, fertility, foals, education, tending to the needs of the flock currently, claimed males. Represents the Now, and how one must care for themselves to learn from the past and live into the future.

Uniform: When doing her major ritual ceremonies, the Hallowed mother wears long white feathery cape, more flowing than the usual Sacred Mother Cape (Which is more like faux wings, much like the smaller winglike cape the Acolytes and Whistlers wear), brightly colored feathers and beads woven into hair, and a Veil. The Symbol of The Great mother is painted on her sides in Glowing paint. Even when not in Full ritual garb, as long as she's currently actively on duty, the Sacred mother must wear some sort of veil.

The Fourth Talon

In the flock, there is a "Fourth" Talon, though only in charge of one sect within the Flock in particular, being connected to the darkness of the wilds beyond the flock. She is Always a Mare born from a Skinwalker/of skinwalker decent, and leads the Cursedhunts, and gives up her name to become the Fourth Talon, and when among the flock outside of the Cursedhunt territory, she wears a cloak and a mask except in private situations. She is met with a mix of fear and respect by all but the other Talons, who respect her for what she and her people do to protect the flock. Most flock members do not know that she is considered a talon, just that she has no true name and gave it up to protect the flock and lead the cursedhunts.

The Fourth Talon
Commonly called: The shadowed one, The Cloaked Cursedhunt, The Nameless Mare, Walkersbane
Represents The Wild beyond the walls of their civilization The spirits that lurk in the darkness, and the Night.

Aspects and those she commands: Anything related to Skinwalkers and the cursedhunts under her. She has connections to the three other Talons, calling them to her in times they are needed to assist her hunters or a ritual for cleansing the remainders of their prey, to organize larger manhunts for walkers, or if something new about walkers had been discovered. Represents the Unknown beyond the confines of Time, of danger and the world beyond the order of the Flock, of Chaos and Order, and of death.

Uniform: Whenever performing among Non-Cursedhunts or Outside of Cursedhunt Territory, The Walkersbane must wear a hood woven out of materials that, even when light is put into it, the face appears to be obscured in natural darkness, obscuring her features, and covers her body with a long cloak. A skinwalker skull is worn on the face, and treated with a potion in the runes so the symbol of the Cursed Hunt/The Shadowed one forms above her head in a glowing rune. The Symbol of the Greatmother is kept in a small medicine pouch on her person, symbolically keeping it close and protecting what it represents from the evil outside forces.

Thoughts/notes/ideas

Quote:
Much like how the Queen has her commanders, and the Oracle her Seers, and there's often some sort of ritual to deciding who is to take over after her, the Hallowed Mother has her Sacred Mothers.

However, there is less choice of favor in the process for the future Hollowed Mother when the old one retires or meets an untimely demise due to their meticulous record keeping: they track not only genetics (To keep from making the next Hallowed Mother related within three generations of the previous one) and a list of skills and knowledge known and performed by the various sacred mothers that wish to take over the role.

Then there is a form of Beauty Pageant where those who wish to be the next Hallowed mother not only demonstrate their skills and knowledge in various competitions, but also show off their prime genetics and beauty and ability for displays. This can go on for months with mares getting eliminated from the running until a winner is decided in a final vote between the two top competitors. The one that does not win frequently becomes the head Sacred Mother directly under the Hallowed mother.

Quote:
Hallowed mother can't actually raise her own children (or at least their own daughters- There is an option of raising sons, but frequently most Sacred mothers give the baskets away before they've been sexed.) and must give their own baskets/foals up for adoption, and can only raise foals born from others (as something old and symbolic to the flock). Often times a friend of hers or a family member will adopt her children and the Hallowed mother will be her own kids "Aunt", though sometimes a Sacred mother may interview mares with fertility problems or have had issues carrying to term and select families to raise a single basket.

Instead, should they wish to raise children as their own, they tend to raise orphans or assist a mare that's overwhelmed by offering to co-parent them.
