Ava listened intently to the prisoner's words and felt herself want to hear him speak more. Despite being chained and trapped, he still spoke to her with grace and respect. She would have suspected some kinda of crude behavior, but none came from him. She pulled the hood down to reveal her hair and ears, knowing full well that he wouldn't even see her but the hood was tickling the tops of her ears in a way that made them twitch. She grabbed the latch on the door and contemplated opening it.

"I am the Princess Ava," She felt the need to curtsy but the door in the way prevented such regal mannerisms. "of the Elven Court here in the Kingdom of Gilder." She surely needed practice in her formality speech, but her sister had always said it didn't matter for the princess, only for the Queen. Ava once again played with the latch. Her eyes concentrated on the intricate details of the locks, knowing full well she could open them if she just tried. Finally, she looked up and bowed her head, "It is... fine to meet you, Sir Kerec Rinuial."

Although, it wasn't fine to meet him. He was the enemy, known all through out history that the Elves and the Men would never get along. That is what was taught to every child in every story. Ava clung her long and bony fingers around the bars of the door and concentrated on the figure before her. The more she stared, the more her night vision improved. From what she gathered, he did appear to be a strong man, there was no doubt in her mind that he really was a knight. She smirked, thinking if his physical features were just as attractive as his body was strong. The thought vanished from her mind, though. She knew that she couldn't even think of anyone of the enemy in any way other than enemy.

It was inevitable, the smile that tugged at Kerec's lips. It formed, lifting all his features, but he bet the Elf, the Princess Ava as she had so politely introduced herself as, could barely see him in the dark of the cell. He also couldn't help but wonder what the Princess of such a massive kingdom was doing down in the dungeons allowed to wander about of on her own. That seemed awfully dangerous and neglectful. What caused him to smile was her obvious curiosity. He could hear her playing with the latch on the door, like a child wondering if they should let the stranger in the house. Her hesitation was understandable, but the fact that she had any thoughts as to opening the cell in the first place were...brave, to say the least. The Elves and the Race of Men hadn't been on good terms for the short time Kerec had been alive. He was also surprised she would just blatantly state that she was the Princess of Gilder without weighing the repercussions of doing so. If she opened that door there was nothing to stand between the two of them to keep him from killing her or taking her hostage, whether his hands were bound or not. There was a reason why he had been knighted, or called The Barbarian, and it wasn't for his mercy to the enemy. Of course, he had no intention of doing anything just yet, so whatever the Princess chose to do was fine.

When she pulled back her hood he could tell just how dark her hair was. His night vision had improved greatly over the past few months, but he still couldn't make out any features on her face, just that her hair was dark and she was finely dressed. She also had slender hands he noticed as she wrapped her thin digits around the bars of the door to better hoist herself up. He couldn't help but wonder if she were the elegant sort of Princess or the magical sort of Elf. He knew nothing about the Princess, just the Queen, and that was that she was a tyrant who made her people suffer. He also wondered if the Princess was just as cruel or sadistic, or if her heart was more on the side of justice and love. Then his thoughts turned back to the Queen, who had stolen everything from him in a very short time. Anger began to consume him, but it was quickly quelled by the thought of why he was down in this cell in the first place. That also made him angry, but for some reason he felt he had no right to be mad at the curious young woman at the door.

"Tis a pleasure to meet you as well, dear Princess," Kerec replied with a dip of his own head in a respectful gesture. He looked back up to her and smiled once more. Her curiosity only piqued his own. "If you'll pardon my rudeness, your majesty, I must ask why is it you are down here, gracing such a lowly Knight...nay, prisoner, with your presence? Is there nothing better to do above in the warmth of the castle?" The second question could be taken as sarcasm if she wanted to find fault in his words, and in all honesty it was slightly passive-aggressive of him, but he would not apologize for asking why she was consorting down in a dungeon.

Ava huffed in a breath and felt like scolding him for being so bold with his question. But she let him off, knowing he was already in a state of punishment and she couldn't do anything more to him but answer his questions, no matter how bold they were. She let out her breath and cocked her head to the side, "Just doing some royal business, nothing out of the ordinary, really." Her lie wasn't as strong as she thought it was. She coughed, "The Queen sent me down here to check on the prisoners." She knew he was going to question why the Princess was sent and not a guard or lowly servant. "All the guards were busy fending off intruders outside, she thought it be best if..." Ava could tell her lie wasn't going to get her anywhere with this prisoner. He was probably smarter than he seemed. She coughed again, "Actually, it's none of your business, Sir Kerec Rinuial." He huffed once more and turned her head away.

Why had she spent as much time as she did with him? She could have just left at any moment, but she didn't. She was drawn to him, she wanted to know more and for some reason, she wanted to help him. Her head turned back towards the bars and she forced her face between them. "Tell me, what foul deed did her majesty punish you for?" She almost mocked her own sister. There were rumors that the Queen had punished men just for being of another race, or just to punish the enemy and hold them until the enemy surrendered. Ava never really understood the war, she tried but she saw no true evil in the enemy, only the evil in bloodshed.

What an awful liar. Kerec shook his head and chuckled softly before looking back up to the shadowed face of the princess. She huffed all haughty and turned her head away, realizing she was failing in her attempt to lie to a Knight. It wasn't but a moment's hesitation before she was pressing her face back against the bars, asking what Kerec had done to be imprisoned down here. That's when his smile faded and he took a few steps back before sitting down on the bench once more.

"Your Queen," he started with a bitter disdain in his voice, "had my daughter stolen away from me. I assume it was her, for they were Elven men dressed in black garb and quite acrobatic on their feet. I was only able to cut one of them with my sword, taking a few daggers to the chest myself. As soon as I could, not leaving myself time to heal, I stormed this castle and began slaying guards to get to the Queen and demand my daughter back. I was still weak from the blood loss so I was over-taken and imprisoned here. It has been a few months as far as I have counted," he finished. A sigh escaped him and he wiped his face with his arm as he tried to not think about his daughter.

"She's only nine, you know. She has the most beautiful golden eyes and sing-song laugh." The man's voice began to crack as he stifled a sob that threatened to escape him. The only thing that weakened him was his pride and joy, his lovely daughter. He let his head hang as if a broken man, though he was far from it. Inside of him was instilled the rage he was suppressing, just to spare the Princess Ava from witnessing it.

Ava listened intently to the human's story. It sounded just like her older sister; So cruel and diabolical. Eventually, Ava hoped to replace her. She wanted to change everything, return the kingdom to the kind and peaceful land it once was. Sure looked up just in time to see the smile in the man's eyes. She couldn't help but smile, too. "That sounds just like her; my sister can be quite cruel..." She felt herself laugh, but quickly kicked herself in the calf for coming off as crass. She shook her head and pulled her hood down finally. "Listen," She felt like she could trust this imprisoned knight, he seemed to be the right kind of person to entrust with her plans. "If you promise not to do anything stupid, I'm going to open this door... I don't have the key to your chains, unfortunately, but I have a plan that may interest you..." She pressed her face between the bars again, her ears felt pinched, but she started to fumble with the barricade on the door.

[ooc: Sorry it's so short and it took this long. >.<; I'm so out of it this week...]

The princess laughed, though nervously, after remarking her sister. Kerec could hear her rustling about as she shook her head, but didn't look up; he didn't want her to see his face, tears welling up in his eyes, on the verge of spilling over. What sort of man cried? A father. He only ever cried for his baby girl. Even when his wife disappeared he didn't cry, though he loved her so. When she said listen, Kerec did, wiping his face with his arm once more before looking up to the shadowed figure. She gave him a compromise, that if he didn't do anything stupid she would let him out of the cell. By stupid he assumed she meant not attacking her or running off once he was freed. Of course, Kerec knew he could kill her with a sharp blow to the head with the wooden plank that bound his hands. They had practically given him a weapon while trying to contain him. Anything was a weapon to him, twas why he was called The Barbarian.

Nodding first, though not pleased that he still wouldn't have the use of his hands, Kerec rose from the bench and moved slowly to the door. "I'll oblige, your majesty." He would oblige to any offer at this point, even it meant he had to fight his way out of the castle, because the first step to finding his daughter was getting out of the cell. He could hear her fumbling with the barricade on the door and his could feel his optimism growing once more. After spending months in that dank cell, he was finally going to not only see the sun, but also his daughter, that is, if he could find her soon. He feared the worst, as father's do. "Just please help me find my daughter," he added, knowing that if anyone could help him it would be an elf.

As soon as the knight agreed, she pulled off the barricade and pushed the door open. She stepped inside, shut the door, and reached her long and thin hands forward to gently push him backwards, away from the doorway. It wasn't to keep him from escaping, more from keeping anyone from seeing the princess conversing with a prisoner. She leaned forward and opened her glistening eyes to part her lips once again: "I'm planning a revolt against the Queen. If we succeed, you will have your daughter back and this land will be free of any war." Ava's eyes fell down to her feet, she could never imagine losing a child. She'd never been a mother, never been married. Ava lifted her chin finally to look into the human's eyes. "With your skills, I think you could help us. It isn't fair what this war is doing to all of us. We need to ban together for this. If you agree to this, by tonight you will be freed of this prison, you have my word." She bowed her head and curtsied, the only way she knew to make a true promise.

Honestly, Kerec had been expecting to be released right then and there, not made to wait, which was why when Ava stepped inside the cell instead of letting him out, Kerec was puzzled. She even pushed him back, further into the cell. She spoke of her revolt against the Queen, her own sister, but all he cared about was her promise to get his daughter back. Personally, he didn't even care about the war anymore. Yes, as a Knight, he should very well care about Ustheradan, but Ustheradan wasn't his blood, his life. Their eyes met, taking Kerec from his musings, focusing now on the Princess. Tonight was what she had said, that he would be free, if he agreed to give them the use of his skill. She bowed her head, giving him her word, the word of an Elf. It was all he had at the moment, however, seeing as how he didn't have the key to his own shackles. There was only ever one way to seal most promises, however.

Kerec had said nothing during Ava's little speech, but once she was through and her promises made, Kerec moved toward her, very fast. He wasn't quite sure how to approach her with his hands bound as they were, so he leaned forward and planted a kiss on Ava's lips, sealing the deal, so to speak. It wasn't a lingering kiss, so he stepped back right after and bowed his own head in return. "You have yourself a deal, your majesty. I'm expecting you to follow through. I know I shall," he replied, staring at her intensely, nothing more on his mind than being released so he could find his daughter. Yes, he would help them take down their Queen, but that would never be the subject on the forefront of his mind.
