Have you ever heard a song and, just for a moment, caught a glimpse of something that could not possibly by there? Have you ever entertained the idea that perhaps music has a life of its own? A soul? A spirit?

It does.

Music is as alive as you or me - and its heart beats to the rhythm of the melodies within. But special circumstances have allowed THIS music... to Live.

Welcome to Children of Song - where Music is Life.

[PLEASE NOTE: This shop is for STRICTLY MALE pets. No females here. If you understand that, read-on]

[Story Header]

Once Upon A Time... My world ended.

A great Darkness covered the planet, coating every home, every village, every nook and cranny of every city. No one knew why it had come, or what it was. But... It brought with it... Death.

As the shadow coated everything, the people it blanketed panicked. Some went insane. Some were saved that fate, and perished instantly. Most, however, were robbed of their minds, as a unknown disease ate away at what sanity was left. Fear and Anger ruled the world those short days, the streets awash with blood and fire.

All I could do was watch as all that I loved, and all that I watched over fell to turmoil and ruin before my eyes. There was nothing I could do to stop it - nor could any of us. We, alone, kept our sanity, save the ones who had already fallen to madness.

By that time, there were only three of us left, sane Gods of that world, to watch over the slow death of what meant everything to us. Myself - God of Chaos and Compassion. Eriot - God of Light and Life. Tristanis - God of Death and Nobility. We had no choice but to watch our people tear themselves apart. It quickly became clear that the encompassing Shadow meant the end of us all.

It had covered Kimaaga too - our home - and was fast robbing us of strength and power. Of life. We understood, all three of us, that our people could not be allowed to die. And so we devised a plan. A plan that would use the last of our powers, and likely the last of our lives.

It took three days. Starting from the very beginning of Death itself, we gathered the spirits of the world, collecting them from every time period, every place. Newly dead, or centuries old... We put them to sleep in a vast ball of spiritual energy, made from our combined powers. Then, we did what had to be done. We put our people to rest, casting a vast web of peaceful death across the planet.

All of the rage slowly faded as, one by one, each and every being on our beloved planet laid down weapons, and their lives, adding to the spirits we had already gathered. It pained us to do it, but even we could see that it was the end of things... and saving the people as they were would be an insurmountable task.

When every soul on the planet was gathered, we wrapped the sleeping souls with love and hope, sending them off into the great vastness of space...

We survived... but our essences were but shadows. Not even the solid spirits we had sent. We followed. And found the planet that had accepted our plea.

Your world. Gaia. So like, and so unlike ours.

We heard... music. Beautiful music of all kinds, swirling in the air, notes playing on the breeze. It was a beacon to the souls we had saved. A beacon that called them back to some semblance of life anew. Songs of grief, of beauty, of hope... of a future.

Perhaps, on this world, we can start again - one day to take to the stars. One day to restore our former glory, our former light.

One day, we will overcome the darkness that destroyed us.

People of Gaia - we are the last of our kind. Not every soul made the journey. There are so few of us left, compared to what we once were.

We NEED your music. We NEED your love. Help to restore us. Help us to live. You are our only hope, on the breath of a prayer. You are our Life. And you hold us in your hands.

Let your music ring - let it breathe warmth into our stillness. Let it banish the dark memories. Let us be restored.

[Stages Header]

[Stage One - Eggu]

You were listening to a certain song... perhaps one you favor... and you have suddenly found an egg. It could be on the ground, or in a tree, or even hovering in midair. Inside or outside. All that matters is that you have found an egg. There is the barest hint of a shadow inside... and a light that pulses to the beat of the song you were listening to when you found it.
This stage lasts two to three actual weeks, during which time RP will take place in the guild. Your character will recieve a series of dreams, and wake up with strange or unusual urges they do not usually have. During this time, your character will also experience physical changes, such as their hair-color or eye-color changing, or added things such as claws, fur, scales, or antlers.

[Stage Two - Spirit Memory]

Your Eggu has dissolved in a peculiar fashion... and left something very odd in its wake. The creature that emerged is male or neuter, and about the height of a plastic coke bottle. Not only that, but the creature appears to be somewhat... transparent. They can talk by this point, but only to you. Anyone else cannot hear what they say. To all but you, they could be mistaken for holograms.
This stage can last anywhere between one to five months, depending on activity level. During this stage, the spirit is NOT RP-ABLE. Your character will interact with the spirit via PMs sent by the shop-mule, or roleplays in the guild. The spirit will be able to communicate actual words, as well as simple memories. NOTE: PETS IN THIS SHOP ARE PRE-NAMED. Please see the 'Information' post for the reason. This cannot be changed, unless it is something agreed upon by the spirit and the character who found him.
Also at this stage, your Spirit Memory will start to recieve what is known as a Play List - More info in the 'Information and Lexicon' post.

[Stage Three - Spirit Manifest]

While you were asleep, your ghost-like boy has grown! And my has he grown. He is now as tall, or taller, than you. And can speak clearly. He can also project thoughts into your mind. By now, you should be used to the dreams that come along with befriending this boy, but they have started to take on a strange turn. You may begin to find reality and dream a bit hard to distinguish at night-time, or impossible to distinguish at all. During the day, you may have noticed odd symptoms such as a persistant cough, or a pain in a certain place that will not go away, even with medication.
This stage can last up to a year, depending on activity. The Manifest is fully RPable by you. During this time, your character will be experiencing medical trauma associated with the spirit's manner of death. This can be anything from a nagging cough, to occasional disorientation, to outright pain in a limb or other area of the body. At this stage, the Manifest in unable to control the memories he dreams of, and will consistantly project them onto the surrounding environment like a 3D movie each night. The boy's Play List has been updated as well.

[Stage Four - Living Memory]

The aches and pains went away at about the same time as your boy stopped glowing. He now looks complete, and maybe a little strange to you with color. The dreams, and the ghostly visions during the night have completely stopped, and your boy is able to become a full-fledged member of society, although he still has memories of another time and place. This is the last stage for most Children.
This stage is infinite, unless your Child is given a Quest. At this stage, they are a normal Gaian, able to interact with everyone, completely solid-looking, and fully functional. Depending on activity level, this stage may be redrawn to reflect changes in the boy's appearance up to four times. Boys at this stage CANNOT 'breed'. See 'Mating'. They are also fully able to utilize their Play List whenever they want.

[Stage Five - Guardian of Memories]

This stage is very special, and reserved for the very few Children who are granted a Quest. During this Quest, your Child will face many dangers, and be subjected to horrific or wonderful encounters. Undertaking a Quest is no meagre task, as one is ONLY granted by the spirits of the Gods. If they find your Child worthy, this Quest takes four actual months, after which, your boy will come back changed. For the better or the worse depends on what happens during the journey. In this stage, your Child will be able to help guide other Children, as well as recieve the power to make their own memories solid - That castle you only saw in your dreams can now be your home. Boys in this stage are ALSO tasked with passing along the genetic code of their race. As well as to utilize newfound magic powers.
This stage is forever. A Guardian is the closest thing to the original gods that sent the spirits to Gaia. Think of them as Demi-gods. ONLY Children in this stage can 'breed' - and only on a very limited basis. This is described in the 'Mating' post. A Guardian has no need for a Play List, and instead recieves a Domain from which to draw their power. This Domain is dependant on the particulars of the Quest, and how your Child reacts to them. Physical changes are also shown. SOME Guardians may come back from the Quest with a twin, or other being.

[Mating Header]

Children of Song can only Mate / Spread their genetic code when they have reached Guardian stage. Before this stage, the code is too weak to carry to a living donor, and will result in stillbirth, or worse - death of one or both parents. For this reason, any Child that has no been blessed by the spirits of the gods is rendered sterile.
Any non-Guardian who wishes to adopt a child is allowed to do so, but actual mating does not take place.

When a Guardian is tasked to produce offspring, it will happen in one of three ways.

The first way is known as Composing. A Guardian will attempt to find a song that is close to the one they sprang from - usually a cover or an instrumental or MIDI version of it. Once he has done that, he will use a certain power to 'inject' his genes into the essence of the music, and thus create a child. This method will result in another Eggu, which will grow up as his father did. This method is usually chosen when the Guardian no longer is living with, or has contact with, the one that raised him.

The second method is Au Naturale. When the one who raised the Guardian is female, and wishes to help the Guardian produce offspring [either because of love, duty, or a personal reason], he simply mates with her, resulting in a natural offspring that may carry memories of his father as well as grow at a slightly faster rate than most children.

The third method is called Implantation, and is reserved for those Guardians who were raised by men. When he wishes to procreate, the Guardian will take a small bit of the man's essence [either from his dreams, blood, or hair] and fuse it with his own to create an Eggu the size of a baby. This Eggu will hatch a normal child that grows at a slightly faster rate than most children, and may carry the memories of the Guardian.

ALL OFFSPRING will be visited by the gods to undertake a Quest of their own, when they have reached adulthood. Offspring will only be arted on request. [I don't want to bite off more than I can chew.]

[Information / Lexicon Header]

Since Children of Song were originally - for lack of a better term - aliens, they have their own language. Following are some of the terms you may hear from your Child and what they mean. Each owner of a Child, upon the first few dreams from the Spirit Memory, will recognize and understand these terms. Also listed are some random tidbits of information that partners to these lost souls need to know.
The Lexicon is updated occasionally, so check back for more information and terms.
All terms are classified by race [Yaoen, K'chrr, Ky'thri, L'yap, Si'thai]

The Yaoen Race:
This was the race on the planet of Juridia, that most closely resembled humanity. They were generally fair of skin, owing to the short days and long nights. Most had pupil-less eyes, and were slightly taller than your average human.
Trademark features were the pupil-less eyes, pointed ears, extra joins on the hands, and halfway between the halves of the feet, and retractable claws. Also, this race had the highest affinity to magic. They were considered the 'peacekeepers' of the planet, for they were always a nuetral race in squabbles among the others.
Yaoen were also the masters of technological advancement, building huge cities where the other races preferred villages.

YAOEN TERMS

Arrikanez - [Air - uh - ken - ehz]
This is the last name of a famous family that ruled Juridia entirely for two-thousand years. Fifty years before the collapse of the planet, the last Arrikanez died, and with him a line of Compassion and Irresponsibility both. The term may be used to refer to an actual member of the family, or the God of Chaos that shares their name.
Ex: "May Arrikanez protect your darkness." / "The Arrikanez ruled the world better than this."

Asi'kai - [Ah - see - kye]
"Beloved Master / Honored Partner" Your Child may call you this upon first meeting you. The shortened form 'Asi' simply means 'Beloved one' or 'Honored one'. It is a term of respect and endearment.
Ex: "Ni'silai*, Asi'kai." / "The fact that you are my Asi'kai means that you are always right, even when you're not."
[*See term below]

Asi'avi - [Ah - see - ah - vee]
"True Love / Cherished of my Heart" This is a term given to one whom the Child feels the upmost love and adoration. 'Avi' may be used as a pet-name. Your Child will not call you this unless they are in love with you, and the love is mutual.
Ex: "I love you, my asi'avi." / "You messed with my asi'avi - prepare to die."

Ini'kai - [Ee - nee - kye]
"Tainted One / Evil One" This term is generally reserved for enemies. Anyone you dislike in your life, may find themselves called this on a regular basis.
Ex: "There is an ini'kai among us." / "You should not associate with that ini'kai, asi'kai."

J'sani'kaai - [Juh - saan - ee - kye - ee]
Translated loosely as "Bargaining Chip" This term only applies to trades or deals, and is often thrown about when planning to give the other person an offer they can't refuse. It can refer to a person as well as a thing.
Ex: "The other person has no idea I'm holding j'sani'kaai." / "He was j'sani'kaai - he shouldn't have died."

J'sae - [Juh - say]
Translated [very] loosely as "Bad Deal" It is a slang term with a similar meaning as English's "bummer" or "my bad", and typically used when referring to an error oneself has made.
Ex: "Heheh... J'sae." / "You can't blame me for this! J'sae, but still!"

Kavi - [Kah - vee]
Simply "Beloved" - Can also be mixed with 'asi' and 'avi'. Used as a term of intense endearment, and proclaimations of love.
Ex: "You are my asi'kavi." / "Kavi, can you rub my shoulders? They ache."

Ni'silai - [Nee - sill - eye]
"I obey" or "I am listening" Generally used when recieving a command, or carrying one out. You might hear this alot if you speak with a condescending tone to your Child. It is a great term of respect, but can be used derisively to mean "Whatever you say".
Ex: "Ni'silai, my kavi." / "Yeah, yeah, ni'silai, asi'kai."

"T'sai!" - [ {Soft T, almost silent} - sai]
This term is always used explicitly. It is the generic four-letter-word used by the Yaoen race. You might hear this a lot if your Child is easily frustrated, especially short-tempered, or very clumsy.
Ex: "T'sai! T'SAI!" / "T'sai this piece of-"

The Ky'thri Race:
The second-most common race on Juridia, and often 'mixed' with other races. This race is cat-like, but the degree of 'cattiness' varies from individual to individual. Some Ky'thri are felines on two legs, some only have ears and a tail. This variation occurs because the race has been extremely diluted from interbreeding with other races. Most Ky'thri are proud of their mixed heritage, but a few believe that Ky'thri should be pure.
Ky'thri are the gypsies and denizens of the desert, prefering close-knit small family homes to huge sprawling cities. Most Ky'thri prefer an active lifestyle, and traditional homes are built to move on a whim - generally on wheels.
Fur-colors range from the mundane to the outrageous, and many young Ky'thri have taken up dying their own fur to rebel against elders.
Their language is a mixture of beautiful purrs and churrs, interwoven with musical meowing. Much like the cats they resemble.

The L'yap Race:
Brash, harsh, and rugged, the L'yap are canine in nature, and are the world's weaponsmiths and warriors. Their language is short, sharp, and sounds a lot like barking. That is, when they speak. Most L'yap believe that words are a waste of energy that could better be spent fighting or preparing to fight. Most L'yap live high up into the mountains, where very few are able to survive. While the colors of L'yap - like the Ky'thri - are varied, their fur length and type is generally the same, resembling the huskies, malamutes, wolves, and samoyeds of Earth. Most L'yap have wolfish heads, on top of stocky, well-formed bodies. Tails are always fluffy, but may sometimes be docked for fashion or practicality. L'yap very rarely mix with other races, but there are a few with only ears and tails to denote their lineage. Very few. Those born like this are often outcast, and sent into cities - or kept at the enclave as a slave or pet. The L'yap are the only race that still allows slave-trade, and their slave markets are a common sight in any city's marketplace. While not completely accepted, buying a slave from a L'yap market is common practice among the wealthy.

The K'chrr Race:
Pronounced "Kuh - char", these people are essentially velociraptors. Not the 'correct' kind either. Think of the 'raptors from the first Jurassic Park movie, and you've got a close approximation. They are a haughty people for the most part, preferring to keep primarily to themselves, believing that they are better than the other, inferior, races. The K'chrr live in groups called Caverns, and may or may not live in caves. Their society is intensely matriarchal, each Cavern being ruled by one Queen, and up to four of her daughters. In the K'chrr race, the color you are born denotes the caste you will inhabit for the rest of your life. The closer to Red you are, the closer to the Queen you are - and thus most respected. Black is a sign of royalty, and although only females are PUBLICLY known to be this color, a vast majority of Queen have had sons this color as well. These unfortunate males are usually sent to the 'games' to be killed, or - if the Queen is compassionate - sent to live with the outcasts, or kept as a pet to the court.
The K'chrr have a monopoly on gems and metals, and are responsible for most of the material for making jewelry and weapons. While they do not make weapons [leave that to the L'yap] - they do make jewelry of fine quality, that fetches a lot of rhom [money] in marketplaces around the world.

[How To Get CoS (And the Activity System)]

If you find yourself really, really wanting an Eggu, there are a couple of ways to go about getting one. What is in this post will be INVALUABLE in designing and editing character ideas, as well as understanding what, exactly, this shop requires you to do.

[How To Get An Eggu]

FIRST THING YOU MUST KNOW - MOST COS ARE FREE.

- The primary way for you to get an Eggu is for me to simply give you one. This happens randomly, when I feel inspired, or simply think someone deserves one. There are plenty of ways to show me that you are interested enough to stick around. A few helpful suggestions are:

# Post in the thread. Chat, RP, do whatever you like, but stay active. We like active.
# Be NICE when you are in here. Be kind, respectful, and leave drama at the door.
# Create a character in advance, and RP them with others. This can go a LONG way in helping me make up my mind.
# Give me songs. I'm not kidding. I don't have a Zune, I don't have any money to afford one, nor do I have an MP3 player that works. Giving me MP3s you like is a PRIME way to get them turned into CoS if I like them too.

- The second way to get an Eggu is to attend a Song Rally. What is a Song Rally? I will choose an artist [most likely randomly], and choose several songs by that artist that inspire me to call to a spirit. If you like the artist [or theme] of the Rally, and you attend, you will get a chance to win one of the Eggu created from a song I've chosen. The catch is that you must play a game - IN CHARACTER - to be able to win the Eggu.
There are two downsides to this method, but three upsides.

= Downside #1: You can't choose the song. However, if you like the artist, it would stand to reason that this wouldn't really matter all that much.
= Downside #2: Only ACCEPTED pre-created characters may attend. But if you're interested enough to have already made one, this is a non-issue.

= Upside #1: Children gained in this manner tend to be STRONGER than 'custom' songs. Which means more character development, as well as more powers later on.
= Upside #2: If you fail in the Rally, you are still given a Song Sprite - A small creature made from a partial soul. Having one of these will come in handy later. Or when you get a CoS.
= Upside #3: Participating in a Rally will make me more likely to consider you for a giveaway CoS - I LIKE to see RP with characters. I WILL reward effort where it is given.

- The third way to get an Eggu is through a god. Sometimes, on VERY rare occasion, one of the essences of the gods will simply form an Eggu, and give it to your character with some special instructions to follow. Usually, the Eggus given in this manner are PLOT-ORIENTED, and thus very important to the shop's metaplot. This event is random, and CANNOT be planned. Although you must have an accepted pre-created character on file.

[Once You Have an Eggu...]

- You've gotten an Eggu! But you have to go through the proper procedure if you want something other than flashy flashy sig-art. This requires a little planning on your part - which is made easier if you already have a character made.

-- The first thing you have to do is PM me with an Untitled PM that contains the following in Paragraph RP format:

A description of your character. What are they doing? What do they look like? What type of person are they? Give me the basics, or a background - it's up to you.~

A description of the current location. Where are they? How did they get there? Are they doing anything particularly important in this place?

How they found the eggu. Keep in mind that your character must be listening to the song the egg comes from when they DO find it. Also - the egg can be literally ANYWHERE. Some places it has been found are:

- In a snowbank.
- In the body of a cadaver.
- In the chosen parent's lap.

Places are random, and completely up to you. Simply keep in mind what your CHARACTER is doing at the time. Don't focus so much on the song's lyrics for now.

Your character falling asleep. Being knocked out, going to sleep at the end of the day, taking a nap... etc. etc.
Since the eggu communicates initially through dreams, this is REQUIRED.

Also, keep in mind that your character WILL have physical changes - directly correlating to the strength of the spirit inside the eggu.

This is a PRIME EXAMPLE of exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you, Pales~

Keep in mind that the RP will be at LEAST five posts long on either side, before the Eggu is allowed to hatch. This is true for all Eggu.

[More Information About Eggu To Follow-----]

[The Activity System]

- Here's the part everyone always looks for. Requirements. What do you need to DO, to get your Spirit Memory to grow? Well, the difference with this shop is that LITERALLY anything goes, as long as it follows Gaia TOS.

Feeling artsy? Draw your kid in an interesting pose. Creativity is ENCOURAGED. You can start a Facebook page for your kid, a Twitter account, A Tumblr - You can make a Skype account for your kid, play them on other forums. Heck, you can even write a song or a poem, make a Youtube video, or give me a blow-by-blow of their days. You can also RP or keep a journal. It's all up to you.

But the catch is this. You CANNOT write sixteen two-line poems. You CANNOT make seven posts on Twitter and call it a day. Doing things will count for activity points. When it comes time to tally those points, I will organize the children-to-grow in a list according to how many points each child has.

These point tallies will be kept PRIVATELY. No one will be allowed to see them but me. The reason for this is that I don't want jealousy running around. Put simply - if I feel you've put in the effort to grow your kid, your kid will grow.

It sucks, I know - but there IS an upside. If I see something that you've done to earn activity points, and it is particularly crafty, clever, or creative... I may decide to edit that boy's art to reflect whatever is described. You get extra stages for extra effort - I don't feel that's completely unfair.

[Character Creation]

So... you want to be a part of the shop? You'll need a character.

The STARTING 10 did not have this requirement... because they were made when I was still solidifying things. However, ordering a CoS requires you to have a character in mind.

ANYTHING GOES. But keep in mind the following:

- All pets in this shop are male. If you choose a female character, and get a particularly powerful spirit... your girl may end up a guy by the time the eggu hatches. I am warning you now.

- Your character WILL end up physically different in some way by the time the eggu hatches. Differences might even continue, aside from the physical discomfort, well into the spirit's adulthood.

- Having a character pre-made and pre-RPed in shop is a GREAT way to convince me that you deserve an eggu. Don't be afraid to step right in.~

To get a character Pre-Approved, PM [Juridian Soul] the following:

PM Title: CoS Character Creation

PM Body:
Your Gaia Name
Your Character's Name
Your Character Gender

Your Character's Appearance
Your Character's Personality

Brief Character History

Pre-Approved Characters are listed below. The more work you put into a character, the stronger the spirit that comes from the eggu will be.
