The Bible fairly explicitly states it was created just over 6000 years ago. I read the Bible and did the math, there's not really any room for doubt.

No, actually it doesn't. Historians are constantly debating over this topic. In fact, whether believing in the Bible or simply treating it as a historical text to be studied, they still find reasons to disagree. There's also the mature earth theory which states that God didn't create the world 'as a baby', but rather already 'old'. In the same way that Adam and Eve were created fully grown adults, not children. Actually makes a lot more sense when you think about it. ^_^
