Vampire, the damned race neither living nor dead, welcome not in heaven but residing on earth as hell's own agents of unholy purpose. For centuries they have lived in the outward fringe of society's perception, remained as the stuff of fairy tales, ghost stories, and legend. Darkness has forever shrouded them from the eyes of mortals.
That is, until their kind cast off that shroud, leaving it to hang over the whole earth instead.
Not far in the future, mankind fell to the unveiled forces of darkness hidden in this world. The race known as vampire took it upon themselves to conquer this world, the world of mortals, and claim it for their own. They won.
Feeble and impotent against the terror of the night they thought only existed in myth, weak mortals and the foundations of their society fell before this hidden threat, which had always been lurking, always biding its time for the time it could rise up and claim the Earth for its own.
As they fell, the vampires forces only grew stronger. Such is the nature of the darkness, where light ebbs, it surges, as does the tide. Fallen brothers became enslaved to the darkness, serving as mindless ghouls or succumbing to the taint and being reborn as vampire, driven to feed and to eradicate the human populace they had once been a part of. It was not long before only traces of the human race remained.
This was folly, however, on the vampire's part. As mighty a race as they were, in wiping out the human race, they had in turn doomed themselves. How would they feed without their livestock? Such turbulent matters caused the vampire's own society to crumble. In the chaos of war they had lost sight of the only means to continue their existence, but they had come too far, so much was already lost that there was nothing left for anyone....
They now turn on one another, in this world where only survival matters. The end is near for both races, for both walk a doomed path towards nonexistence now.
Still, in this crumbling world, one light still prevails. Where the humans and vampires had failed, both a fallen race doomed to come to an end, the earth, even in its shattered state, still lives on just as nature always has. War-torn and desolate, though not entirely barren...the Earth still turns. The labors of man and vampire have not stripped this world of life entirely. Life, in its purest form, neither man nor vampire, but plant and beast continues to exist. The Earth is not all lost.
There are those who believe the only outcome is to kill every last one of their hated enemy, others believe that all is not lost and that there is hope in a world where humans and vampires coexist together, and others still believe that the only hope lies in total annihilation of both races, that the two have become like vermin in need of exterminating for life to go on in this world hanging on the verge of death.
For vampires, the planet was easily won, but both races have yet to see the hardships that will bring about salvation for us all.
Death draws close for all life on Earth. In order to save a dying planet, in order that life might have a chance to continue here, something must be done. The tenacity of man...the ambitions of vampires...a chance to save them all.... If nothing can be done to foster life, then all is lost in this world covered by darkness.
