A Mess Hall is a room that provides food and drinks for soldiers. Most, if not all, UNSC ships have one. Rather than having on-board cooks, by the 2500s, most vessels have food dispensers instead; however, this results in a smaller choice of nourishment.
A standard Destroyer's Mess Hall is located near the Bridge and Armories, in the case of the Catharsis the ship has three fully functional mess halls, two open to normal operations and one separated from the rest of the units for use by the as of yet untrained SPARTAN-IIIs, to keep the children from being intimidated by the older servicemen.
The ship is retrofitted with a fully functioning kitchen and staff, on top of the normal dispensing units, allowing for varied meals and a small bit of home comfort for the children.
