Natalya 'Talya' Stepanovich Patrovna Unsorted │ First Year │ Eleven Years Old │ Single
Talya was trying as hard as she could to take in all the sights and sounds of her experiences. After hearing about and seeing the pictures of Hesperia that her cousin brought with him to Russia, meeting her, and seeing those fangs was a treat. While she had no compunctions about asking how she injured himself, she felt it rude to ask about the fangs. However, shortly after the train pulled out of the station, she at loose ends, as both Hesperia and Kas were needed elsewhere, as they were Prefects and there was a meeting they were required to attend in the Prefect’s Compartment. Talya had a compartment to herself, a book to read and a large Moscow Watchdog to keep her company, along with her big Russian Blue who was content to curl up on her chest and purr contentedly.
It was already dark when the train pulled into Hogsmeade Station, and Talya needed only to don her cloak and hat to be ready to depart. She slid her school bag over one shoulder and collected Medved’s leash, clipping it to her waist, and Serebro was set upon his usual perch upon her shoulder. As she was about to leave the compartment, Kasamir appeared and he escourted her from the train. When they reached the place where the incoming First Years were to meet before going on, Kasamir took back Medved’s leash, and put Serebro back in his carrier so he could be taken care of by the House Elves, and he reminded her that she had an even chance she would be Sorted into a House where she had a relative, and if she were selected for Slytherin she was to find him and Hes at the Slytherin Table. She was a bit uncomfortable being led towards a forest, having gotten lost in one only a few months ago, however there were other kids roughly her age also being gathered.
The hike through the woods was rather brief, and it wasn’t nearly as scary as the forest behind the Patrovna estate, as it wasn’t nearly so deep nor dense. The hike ended at a pebble-strewn beach where there were several boats, and Talya immediately selected one to board and collected the lantern therein. There was one girl who practically had to be carried into a boat, and Talya offered to keep her company on the journey across the water.
Talya was told there were merfolk and a kraken in the lake, and she was rather curious if they’d see any sign of them or any other denizens of these waters. While she never spotted so much as a fin or a tentacle, seeing the castle all lit up at night made up for it, and fired the neophyte witch’s imagination like nothing else that she’d experienced all day. Traveling across the water, the little First Year was imagining what the rest of her night would entail.
Upon reaching the Great Hall, Talya looked around at the rows of students in their robes, the candles hovering above them, and the magnificent ceiling showing the sea of stars above them. However, when the Sorting ceremony began, there was no torch-lit processions into the forest, no rings of standing stones, nor any blood rites. As she watched it was simply a matter of going to the front of the hall when one’s name was called, and having a hat placed upon one’s head. Granted, it was a talking hat, but that was it; nobody was even called upon to state their lineage, and she was fairly certain at this point nobody would be passing chalices of mulled wine around either.
When her name was finally called, Talya walked purposefully to the front of the Great Hall. When the Sorting Hat was settled upon the bridge of her nose, she directed her thoughts towards the magical construct. ‘I’m guessing you don’t need me to recite my magical parentage, which is probably a good thing. Um, Cousin Kasamir is in Slytherin, and Cousin Alynn is in Gryffindor, but you know that already, right? My older brother, Kusma, is in Punainen, but most importantly, my older sister Raisa is in Keltainen, and I’m very much like her. Wherever I go, I promise to work hard and not bring disgrace upon my Housemates. Wow. So how does this all work?’
Personality:
■ Patient: I know anything worth doing is worth doing right, and taking the time to make it so ■ Dreamer: Oh, I love dreaming about doing things, and how to make things nicer for my friends and my family. Mom tells me that I ‘have my head in the clouds’, and maybe that’s true, but there’s nothing wrong with asking ‘what if?’ ■ Mystical:I've had some very vivid dreams of being in other times and places. Once I had a dream of riding across the Caucuses with a group of other riders, and it felt so real that I wasn't sure afterwards if it was really a dream or actual memory. ■ Loyal: I love my friends and cherish my family, and hope they give me the same in return. ■ Practical: Dreams are cool, but without a way to make them happen, they’re just dreams. Now, if I can just figure out a way to do it, then I’m good to go. I am a planner, and I have the confidence in my plans to carry them out. ■ Will: I’m stronger than I look, not physically maybe, but I won’t yield under pressure. ■ Focused: I’m not afraid to get into a project, and if it means an all-nighter, then so be it. Nothing worth having comes easily ■ Energetic: I can just keep going like a certain overused pink rabbit icon. Dad says I'm vivacious, and some of my friends call me 'exhausting'. If I am doing something I really care about, then look for me to keep at it until its done, or I am.
Likes:
■ Wandering in the forest, collecting flowers ■ Cooking for my friends ■ Nice, long soaks in the tub ■ Soft, pretty clothes ■ Rugelach and my mom’s butterscotch fudge ■ Horses
Dislikes:
■ Crowds and loud people in general ■ Wolves ■ Really spicy food ■ Gossip and drama, it’s all hot air ■ People who lie to me, even if it's to spare my feelings, and empty platitudes ■ Worse, people telling me I can't do something because I'm not old enough, or tall enough or not experienced enough.
Hobbies: ■ Collecting flowers and gardening ■ Drawing and painting ■ Writing ■ Equestrian events, including Dressage, and I've been pushing to do Cross-Country
Strengths: ■ My ability to focus upon a particular project ■ Friends forever ■ Confidence in my own abilities and my ability to plan
Weaknesses:
■ You know that focus I mentioned earlier? Yeah, the downside is it's hard to get me to shift focus ■ I also have issues trying to see things from others’ point of view. I’ll try to understand, but give me time ■ I'm always comparing myself to my older sister, Reina, and trying to measure up to her example. She's my hero, and I look up to her.
Fears:
■ Wolves ■ That I'll never be seen as being able to do and be all the things my sister Reina can and is, and my parents will think they failed in me.

Oh man, it was finally time! Wen was super excited, though he did wish Lewis, Su, and mumndad were here to watch too. After the super long train ride, which was made less boring by Rosa, Mea, and Rey, plus Morwenna and Tee all playing games and sharing snacks the whole time. Even Meallan had accidentally packed two extra lunches (assuming mumndad wouldn't make lunch??? pssh) and shared with the girls. It had actually been a pretty fun time. But then came the boats. Like... it would have made sense to do literally anything other than cross a spooky lake in rickety old boats. Why couldn't they take the fancy horseless carriages? Rosa, Rey, and Mea got to! (even if Mea and Rey both looked a little hesitant at it)
Then they followed Professor Clarke (hey, didn't she write his school letter?) into the giant castle that he'd previously only seen from the outside. Of course, since it was super giant, Wen held hands with his cousin, because then they could be scared together. Maybe they would get to sit with their older family? Or maybe they'd get separated at sorting. Oh no!! What if they got split up?! When they walked into the Great Hall, blue eyes searched the yellow-robed table, before finally finding his family. He sent a nervous sign over to Rosa, simply spelling "Watching?"
He turned back to listen to the Professor, eyes going wide. Why did she say his name first?! It was Wendel! Shouldn't he have gone last?! Curses that his surname was so early in the alphabet! He hesitantly let go of Bryn's hand, then walked up front. All eyes were on him as he sat down, but he looked unwaveringly at his big sister before the hat covered up his eyes. 'Hey there, Sorting Hat. I know I'm supposed to let you figure stuff out, but I'd really, really like to be in Ravenclaw. It's where my dad and big brother were! But... but if my sister asks, tell her I definitely wanted in Hufflepuff, 'kay?' Dad had said that it took requests in consideration, so maybe? He didn't want to be in an underground room! A tower was a billion times cooler, for sure!

xxxxx⇾Iᴍᴀɢɪɴᴀᴛɪᴠᴇ Much like the rest of his family, Wen has a huge imagination. He’s often daydreaming and lost in fantasyland, which is pretty normal for the boy. It’s sometimes hard to focus, but he doesn’t mind. It’s pretty great to have such a wonderful mindspace.
xxxxx⇾Bᴏᴏᴋᴡᴏʀᴍ Wendel has always loved stories, either read to him or made up off the cuff. He also loves reading books to learn more tales, especially when he can dive into fantasy. His vivid imagination helps out a lot, giving him oodles of inspiration for artworks.
xxxxx⇾Tʀᴜsᴛɪɴɢ There... is no one that Wendel wouldn’t trust completely. Adults, other kids, or anyone is subject to complete and total trust. Perhaps he’s a bit sheltered or perhaps he grew up around too many safe family members, but it wouldn’t be Wen if he didn’t fully believe. The only exception to this rule would be dentists, who are definitely out for blood.
xxxxx⇾Sɪʟʟʏ Wendel is always full of giggles, trying to make people laugh. He loves pulling harmless little pranks on his family (usually whistling or making noises to make Lewie and Dad have a lot of funky colors). He also loves telling jokes or stories with the end goal of bringing people smiles.
xxxxx⇾Cᴏᴍᴘᴇᴛɪᴛɪᴠᴇ Another perk of a large family, Wen has learned to be competitive. He plays to win (while still trying to have fun) in every game he plays. Be it backyard quidditch, board games, or even just singing karaoke louder than the others, Wen is determined to be the very best.
xxxxx⇾Sᴇʟғʟᴇss Wendel would give anyone anything they could possibly need. Thankfully, most people just needed a hug or a friend, which he could do in spades. Of course, he would go well above and beyond for anyone that could want or need it.
The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking.... Oh ho, are you sure? Gryffindor would greatly benefit from you... But I concede, I agree that you belong in... RAVENCLAW!

xx☙Wʜᴇʀᴇ Aᴍ I?Hogwarts!! xxx☙Wʜᴏ Is Wɪᴛʜ Mᴇ?The whole school! xxxx☙Wʜᴀᴛ's Gᴏɪɴɢ Oɴ?Sorting! xxxxx☙Wʜᴀᴛ's Iɴsɪᴅᴇ Mʏ Hᴇᴀᴅ?Oh man, I can't wait!
Tsia was pretty excited. There was so much to do! She had seen the castle and grounds before, since Dads liked to see the quidditch games (especially when Auntie Roxie or literally any of the Knapp kids were playing.... which was every game). As they climbed into the boats, she took time to look around. The lake was calm and still, though apparently held mermaids and all sorts of other weirdness way deep down. She was pretty sure she'd heard about a Giant Squid. And if a freaking squid could live there, maybe sharks could too! It would be so cool if she could have her own pet shark (but for some reason dads kept saying no??)
As they walked up to the castle, her eyes kept wandering about. It was way cooler now that she was actually able to go inside. As they did, she couldn't help but look everywhere. There were paintings and ghosts moving about, plus a trillion stairs. Man, no wonder Auntie Roxie always said her legs were sore after school! At least it would be good exercise! When the group suddenly stopped before some big doors, Tsia felt her excitement building up. This was it!
Walking in, she pushed up to tippie-toes to look at the Gryffindors. She grinned brightly when Roxie and her best friend Liv waved at her! Tsia waved back, then looked up to the front. If they were going alphabetically, then.... yep! She was one of the very first! Skipping to the front, Tsia happily sat down. Oh man, she was about to meet a talking hat! How wild! "Hey there, Sorting Hat! My Auntie Roxie says you're really good at your job, so put me in the best spot ever!" She couldn't wait!
xxx𝓟𝒆𝓻𝓼𝓸𝓷𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓽𝔂xxx
xxxxx⇾Lᴏᴠɪɴɢ When Tsia loves someone, she loves with her whole heart. She cares deeply about her family, friends, and anyone she determines to be in need of love.
xxxxx⇾Aᴄᴛɪᴠᴇ Tsia often finds herself moving and shaking in one way or another. From dance classes to quidditch practice, she's always got something going on. Not only is she physically active, her mind is as well, and she always has questions or things to look up.
xxxxx⇾Lᴏɢɪᴄᴀʟ Tsia is really quite intelligent, but she does so by always being able to find answers. She knows where to look to learn whatever she needs. She uses her logical mind to know all the steps to do just about any task, from research to chores. It works in her favor by making school work a little easier, which is great.
xxxxx⇾Sᴋɪᴛᴛɪsʜ Ever since she lost her family, Tsia’s a little nervous around people she doesn’t know. The world is chaotic and messy, but survivable. Her instincts cause her to be a little extra wary around new people or situations, though she can usually adapt pretty quickly.
xxxxx⇾Fᴀᴍɪʟɪᴀʟ After losing her whole family as a little kid, family has become something of incredible importance to Tsia. Even with a family as great and vast as the Knapps, she's committed herself to remembering them all. She is fiercely loyal to her family, and will go out of her way to spend time with the people she feels safest amongst.
xxxxx⇾Aᴍʙɪᴛɪᴏᴜs 'Once you hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up', isn't that what they say? Tsia adores that climb, always striving to be a little better than she was the day before. It drives her to learn skills quickly and effectively, using her logical mind to find ways to be better than her peers. She wants to be the best of the best, even on days when its hard. Thankfully, she is usually very good at overcoming adversities.
The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking.... Loyalty to friends and family is important, But above all else, your logical mind shines bright, Ambitious in nature, you'll best be suited by...

xx❈ Wʜᴇʀᴇ Aᴍ I?Great Hall xxx❈ Wʜᴏ Is Wɪᴛʜ Mᴇ?Eddie, everyone else xxxx❈ Wʜᴀᴛ's Gᴏɪɴɢ Oɴ?Sorting xxxxx❈ Wʜᴀᴛ's Iɴsɪᴅᴇ Mʏ Hᴇᴀᴅ?This has so many germs!
Iana was glad that at least one of her siblings wasn't on Prefect duties. Sure, she was proud of her big brother, but also she wanted to sit with both of them! Thankfully the train seemed... clean enough (plus Eddie sneaked in and did up a cleaning charm). She already knew the incantation to that one, but apparently she wasn't allowed to actually use it until she got to school. Absolutely silly news! She snuggled up with a blanket and a good book, glad that the train had some lovely scenery to see.
Once they'd made it to the platform, Iana was about to follow her brother and sister over to some nice little carriages, but Eddie told her the first years went up a different way. Oh boy. That seemed bad. Sure enough, she and the others her age were led to a gross lake! They had to sit in a weird old boat?! What if she got lake water on her?!? This could not be sanitary! But apparently it was the "rules" to go this way. She found a boat and sat as far to the middle as she possibly could, constantly cringing. Thankfully, it wasn't a long ride and she could climb out quickly.
After that was a decently pleasant evening stroll up to the castle. Inside was huge, but at least everything was clean! They all followed along, learning a bit about the school before they discussed the houses themselves. Iana, of course, already knew about them all. Charlotte was in Gryffindor and Eddie was a Hufflepuff. Maybe she'd be with one of them? She had all but relaxed when they walked into the crowded hall. Oh boy. It was awfully busy in here!
As she was looking for her siblings, Iana heard that their method of sorting was to wear a hat.... that everyone else wore?! Oh gross! No way! She looked over at Eddie, shaking her head hard. No way! Nu-uh! She started to turn around, figuring they'd have to provide an alternative method of sorting. She was NOT putting that on! Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?), her brother was quicker than she. He'd wrapped an arm carefully around her shoulder, then began to offer advice.
"It is okay. It will be over super fast." He said, looking her in the eyes. "Extra fast 'cause I'm not doing it. No way! Do you know how many germs that thing has?!" She said back, already starting to get a bit shaky. "Did you know the Eurasian Swift can fly for months? They eat, drink, and sleep without landing. They just dip over the ground, grab their needs, and zip back up." He said, calmly. "And hummingbirds consume 3-7 calories per day. Scaling them to the size of a human would be roughly 155,555." Iana looked at him, a bit surprised. Of course his calm-down method would be bird facts!
"Iana Overton?"
Oh dangit! She'd forgotten her escape plan! She looked over at her brother, who walked her to the front. "Be brave for a few seconds, then I will get you cleaned up and to your table." He stood at the end of the nearby table, letting her take a few extra steps to the front. She sat down, albeit a bit stiffly, before the hat was on her head. Oh man, this better be fast!!
xxx𝓟𝒆𝓻𝓼𝓸𝓷𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓽𝔂xxx
xxxxx⇾Rᴇʟɪᴀʙʟᴇ Iana has always been very dependable. If you need her at a certain time and place, she’ll fight tooth and nail to get there ten minutes early. She can also be counted on to do tasks in a timely and perfectionistic manner. All of this is probably why she has a small collection of watches....
xxxxx⇾Pᴀᴛɪᴇɴᴛ Even though Iana is perfectly punctual, she’s also wise enough to realize that’s not the case for everything. She doesn’t mind waiting on people. Her patient nature also comes through in her ability to teach people or walk them through steps. Sometimes it’s hard, but she doesn’t mind doing what it takes to give people the help they need.
xxxxx⇾Fᴏᴄᴜsᴇᴅ When Iana is working on a task, her focus can go from 0-100 really quickly. She lasers in on tasks that need doing and doesn’t stop until done... or she has a promised time to keep. She’s not the best at multitasking because of her honed-in focus, but she’s excellent at producing quality results.
xxxxx⇾Nᴜʀᴛᴜʀɪɴɢ Despite being the middle child, Iana somehow got the motherly genes. She loves taking care of her siblings and beyond, making sure everyone’s all ready to go. She has also played healer since she was little... except when it came to the gross stuff - that, she left to her parents!
xxxxx⇾Oʙsᴇssɪᴠᴇ Iana has very strict standards for the world in which she lives. Deviation thereupon can make her incredibly anxious. While she can occasionally brave the anxiety, Iana will always try to perfect the things she can to help herself feel better. Especially if it makes everyone else feel better too (probably).
xxxxx⇾Oʀᴅᴇʀʟʏ Iana has an almost need for things around her to be a certain way. She’s incredibly tidy because of this, and if things aren’t correct, she can get very upset. She has everything in her life organized to perfection and gets anxious if things aren’t in order. If you borrow things of hers, make sure to put it back exactly where you found it... otherwise count on not borrowing anything again!
The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking.... Ah, everything needs to be orderly and neat, But more than that, you are focused and patient, I know just where you'll do best... RAVENCLAW!
Carter couldn't take her eyes off of anything she saw on the trip to and into the castle. The only other time she had been at Kings Cross station was on holidays, when her Nana and Papa patiently waited for their children to arrive, but Carter herself had never been on a train. So, pushing her cart through he barrier and seeing a steam engine was an absolute delight to behold, even if Nana was gripping her arm tightly to stop her from running off. The train was fun, even if everyone was chatting too excitedly for her to enjoy the book she brought, so she watched the sights roll by while eating the caramel apple her Papa had smuggled into her bag.
However, the best part was getting into the boats and watching the magic push them forward, even if she got too excited to see if she could make the boat tip at one point. The answer: No, the boats don't tip. Her wet sleeves were all she had to show for the experiment. Still, wet sleeves were probably better than falling into the lake.
With a notebook out, she excitedly scribbled about her adventures on the train and in the boat, letting the crowd push her forward. She didn't listen to the professor talking to the crowd during the brief pause; no, she was too busy looking at the sights ahead of her and scribbling between steps. Her eyes followed the trails of yellowing stones, and her feet followed the sounds before her. A sea of black robes and pointy hats met her when she entered the great hall. Her stomach rumbled as she gripped her bag tightly to her side, only opening the top to drop her notebook of operations and fun facts inside.
Just as Nana had said, four tables lined up like a walkway, each color coordinated according to their house. Carter was pushed further to the front. She wanted to hang back and ask about the candles floating in the air. Her thoughts drifted not to those in front of her but to everything else happening around her. 'Surely the castle had been equipped with electricity by now? It was safer than fire, right?' What was she going to do when her phone died? Then she remembered the parchment and quills her Nana had insisted she pack. Her grandfather was kind enough to stash her favorite pens in her bag with better paper notebooks for her observations. She would have to write letters home and let her phone die. That would mean no photos to go with said observations until she could beg Papa for a camera.
She sighed while she waited for the line to move in alphabetical order. Being an M came with some perks, but it still left her time to be homesick.
'Love you, Char-Char.' Papa had said with a tight hug, saying goodbye at the station. Just hours ago, she was with him, stashing the good Muggle pens in her bag, hiding them from her Nana, and now she was standing in the Great Hall with magic candles. Just a pureblood with Muggle pens. She rolled her eyes as the professor said her full name upfront. "Charolette McFallon."
'Shoulders back. Head high. You are a McFallon, and McFallons are Ravenclaws. You have nothing to worry about.' Her Nana had coached her for that moment, so Carter did just what she was told. Shoulders back, head high.
"I go by Carter, actually," she mentioned to the teacher. She smiled and spoke even softer to the hat, "Carter McFallon, nice to meet you." She sat up straight as the hat covered her eyes and ears, wondering if Nana was right and there would be a conversation with this hat or if it would shout the house that would be her home for the next seven years.
"My entire family has gone to Ravenclaw, but I really don't want to be locked out of the dorm room for not being able to answer riddles. I hate riddles. Please, don't put me in a house where I have to answer riddles," she begged, more to herself rather than the hat. "Anything, but the riddles."
Where: Great Hall Current Thoughts: Why are there so many candles? Can't they use electricity like the rest of the world? Who: nobody really Why: The magic hat is going to tell me where I belong (sorting) Fun Fact: The first locomotive that could carry a load was made in 1804. OOC:
People can describe me as an introverted nerd. My love language is fun facts, such as did you know Pringles are just crushed potato flakes and not real potatoes? I love reading, probably because I was raised by my Nana, who also has her nose in a good book. Granted, she was a Ravenclaw and I hope to the Gods I'm not, because I am awful at riddles and don't want to get locked out of my dorm room all of the time (she once spelled my door to get me ready and I slept in the hall for two months straight before she finally unspelled it). I hate mystery novels, even though they are my Nana's favorites, and would rather be reading a romance novel or playing on the swings while trying to figure out what relationships the clouds have. I guess I'm a young romantic poet. In the summer, I like making boats out of leaves and other things to see if I can get them to go down the creek without sinking. My best friend hates it because we get all muddy, but I think that's half of the fun. Being curious and dirty is the best way to live. I only have one or two really close friends. This is from the anxiety of interacting with muggles, since Nana swears she lived through the Salem Witch trials. I quote: "The entire world will turn on witches again, and we will be burned again." What do I really enjoy, though? Long walks listening to Nana. I don't talk much, but I love her stories.
The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking.... Hm... not Ravenclaw... Even though it would best suit you? Your determination through your fear will best suit you in... GRYFFINDOR!

『••✎••』For all the excitement this day was supposed to bring him, Rian mainly just felt...bored sadly. He'd woken up early to double check that his luggage and bags were still packed from the night before while the rest of his family still slept. While it was annoying he couldn't bring Uther until next year, he still made sure to bring him some treats and instructions to be good for his parents while he was away. Hopefully he would keep them company alongside his brother. This would be the first time he'd be completely without his family and he was far more excited about that realization that possibly many children his age would be. They weren't bad, more stifling than anything, clingy even. At Hogwarts, he'd finally be able to let his wings stretch and soar, so to speak.
After waiting rather impatiently, his family finally rose and began their morning ablations and routines, the only new addition being his parent's buzzing anticipation for his departure. Between all their gushing reminiscing and reiterations of how much fun he was sure to have, Rian was finally apparated to the platform alongside Jonan right before the train was set to depart. This was more than fine by him as he was allowed to rush through their goodbyes and well wishes without seeming rude then hastening to the train to find a compartment. He did manage to find one though it was mainly occupied by older students who graciously welcomed him inside.
Rian spent most of the time listening as they gave their "advice" regarding all manner of things including the sorting, which classes he should be paying the most attention to in his first year, Quidditch, certain clubs (he was most interested in the Drama club if he was honest) and so on and so forth. The pre-teen was honest with them that he truly didn't care which house he was placed in as long as he still got to learn which many of the teens just chuckled at proclaiming "That's such a Ravenclaw answer!" which he just shrugged at nonplussed. He couldn't remember which houses his own parents had been part of so it didn't really have much hold over him nor did any of the main attributes of each house. If Rian was being completely truthful, he just wanted to learn and not get bored. That had been the main problem at his previous school and he was hoping it wouldn't follow him here.
Finally, the train reached its destination and Ria was separated himself from the group fo older students politely waving them off as he followed the Groundskeeper to a group of boats, rode over a lake apparently containing a giant mollusk before finally-finaly arriving at the school. Along with all the other first years, he was marched into the Great Hall in front of the entire school and made to wait to be sorted. As his last name was pretty high up in the alphabet, Rian figured he tried not to let his mind wander too far as to not embarrass himself by not hearing his name be called. Finally, it was his turn and as the hat began it's descent, he couldn't help wondering if the hat itself got bored year and year of doing this or worse, just waiting all year until it was time to do it.

◊ PERFECTIONISTRian has always needed to know the right and wrong ways of doing something so that he could only ever do the “right” way. He will practice and practice until it becomes almost second nature. ◊ STEADFASTHe’s very stubborn when it comes to everything he puts his mind to; lessons, writing, even playing! He has his own ideas and his own morals and he will refuse to budge unless given irrefutable proof to contradict it. ◊ LITERALRian is so good at following directives that he will follow them to the actual letter. It took him an embarrassingly long time to understand sarcasm or even jokes of this nature and he really doesn’t like them due to feeling like a punchline. If something needs to be done or if he needs to be somewhere at a certain time, guaranteed it will get done and he’ll be there not a second later. ◊ CHARMINGDespite his rather obstinate stance and unfortunate understanding, Rian comes across to his adults and peers as a rather levelheaded and charismatic individual. He doesn’t like to stray far from the norm, gets good grades, and will offer help if he feels the need for it. He doesn’t often use it to his advantage, but he can and has in the past. ◊ OBSERVANTTo aide his perfectionist practices, Rian likes to watch intently and study whatever it is he’s chosen to learn before he begins his own trials. Not just that, he likes to watch people as they go about their days and the animals in their large backyard. The world is a very fascinating place to him. ◊ QUIETRian doesn’t like unnecessary noise and has taken to only speaking if he feels the need to. He doesn’t enjoy loud games or events preferring to keep himself entertained with quieter pursuits like reading and bird watching. The few games he plays with others his age are usually those that don’t have much shouting like the hag and the hares or monkey see monkey do.

🍎🧀🍊🍍The train ride had seemed even longer than Bryn had thought it'd be (six hours was just way, way too long) even with his family surrounding him. He wasn't completely sure when he'd begun clinging tightly to Wen's hand as they made their way to the castle but he knew immediately when he had to release it so his cousin could be sorted.
While logically, he knew he wasn't being abandoned and that if he dared to look up he'd find at minimum three friendly faces looking at him, but that seemed like a momentous task for the young boy. His gaze was slightly downward, his eyes were unseeing as his hands took turns squeezing and clenching his poor Chabbit as he waited an impossible amount of time until his own name was called.
Bryn didn't want to stand there any longer than he had to, and hastened over to the stool, clutching his friend to his chest for dear life, completely uncaring how this would look to his yearmates and other students. They were lucky he had ultimately decided against bringing his blanket to hide under. Bryn knew his friend wanted to go to the same house as his oldest sibling and while he wouldn't mind being with his own siblings, he wouldn't want to not also have his best friend. It would help dually as he would have his friend and Wen would also have someone he knew if he was separated from his sister. "I just don't want us to be alone. Just put me witih Wen or the others." Bryn begged the hat once it was on.

◊ CURIOUSBryn is a naturally curious child wanting to know what who when and where about any and everything. He's always willing to go headfirst into whatever he's interested in at the moment and soak up any amount of knowledge. ◊VIGILANTBecause of his chaotic upbringing, he's learned to always be on the lookout for something to happen. Usually bad so its doubly important that he see it coming. He's cautiously observant of all things around him so when the bad things do happen, he's the first to leave or even fix the problem. ◊ CRAFTYBryn is very good and figuring out how to get something to work in his favor. Either by climbing somewhere high to reach what he wants or knocking it over to it's easier to grab. If he puts his mind to it, he'll figure it out eventually. ◊ WITHDRAWNBryn has difficulty expressing his emotions as well as recognizing and responding to others'. Any emotions he feels stronger than fear or hunger he tends to regulate either through his plush (i.e., talking through him) or by hiding until his feelings have regulated. ◊ CLINGYWith not allot of positive things going on in his life, Bryn tends to cling to the few that does. He's very possessive of those he views belongs to him, be it his toys, his food, or even the very select people he's come to like. ◊ QUIETBryn naturally leans towards being silent more often than not since when he is, he can better observe people and things around him. It also helps with people also not noticing him with is a huge plus. The unfortunate side effect is that he can now unknowingly sneak up on people and frighten them which in turns frightens him.

The whole trip to school had been pleasant, since Olivia had decided to sit with some other friends and Benji got to ride with Tsia. They'd had a nice conversation and everything. The boat ride was a little stressful for him, but overall it wasn't a terrible experience. The dark was a little disconcerting, but he'd just offered to hold the lantern and that helped to alleviate his fears. And then walking into the Great Hall... it was everything Mum had described to him and that made him happy. There was a lot of noise as they entered the Great Hall, but by the time they started calling names, it had died down. Benji knew he'd be among the last few people called, but he patiently waited his turn. When his name was called, he took his seat and allowed the Hat to be lowered onto his head.
xxx𝓟𝒆𝓻𝓼𝓸𝓷𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓽𝔂xxx xxxxx⇾Humorous Whether it's telling jokes, funny stories, or physical humor, everyone around Benji is always laughing. His humor isn't just entertaining, it also lifts the spirits of everyone around him. xxxxx⇾Intelligent Benji enjoys learning anything he can get his hands on, does well in school, and enjoys reading. He over performs in school and understands lessons that are much beyond his years. xxxxx⇾Creative Drawing is an outlet for Benjamin and he enjoys painting as well. He's adept at watercolors and oil based painting and he often draws in his sketchbook after he finishes his schoolwork. xxxxx⇾Obstinate It's hard to make Benji change his mind once he's decided upon it. You need to present a fact riddled argument before he'll even begin to consider your point of view. It did make it hard for his parents to teach him the basic skills as a toddler, but he did eventually get it. xxxxx⇾Friendly No matter where he goes, Benji can make a friend, whether it was at school, waiting in line with his mother, or even at the doctor's office. He likes to talk to everyone and wave at every person he passes. He's even very friendly with animals. xxxxx⇾Calculating When it comes to decision making, Benji needs to observe every option before he decides. Sometimes it might take him a while to make even easy decisions.

The closer Clara got to sorting, the more nervous she had become. The train ride hadn't been bad, most of the time had been spent talking about Star Wars and if there was a good way to get Amelia to talk, it was to bring up Star Wars. However, when Clara realized they had entered Scotland, her stomach started doing flip flops. She hadn't really been away from home before and she wasn't used to entrusting her fate to a magical talking hat. She kept on a happy face as to not add to the anxiety of the other two girls, but she did start rubbing the side of her leg. A stim she had picked up from Amelia.
The boat ride over to the castle had also been a little nerve-wracking, especially since Amelia took the carriage, so it was the first time on the journey she was without a sibling. She did stay near Róisín however so that helped at least a little. She did have to admit though, the first view of the castle in the dark over the water was absolutely stunning. Hogwarts was one of the biggest building she'd seen, and she'd seen a lot of big buildings.
Once they had docked, she followed the rest of her class up the stairs and to the Great Hall. At least her surname was toward the front of the alphabet so she wouldn't be sitting their stewing for long. Like promised, in what felt like the blink of an eye, her name was called. She felt a slight tremble in her right hand, but she tried her best to ignore it. She sat on the stool and closed her eyes tightly as she felt the hat get placed on her head. As she sat, her brain wandered. Apparently that hat could read thoughts, so maybe it was worth a try.
"I don't want to sway you too much, but I think I'd really love to be in Hufflepuff. That way I'm not alone, and Amelia won't be alone when Charlotte graduates. Also I think my biggest personality trait is probably the loyalty, but I don't know. You're the sentient hat, not me."
{{OoC: xxxxx}}
FRIENDLY Even though she's a bit of an introvert, Clara always tries to be friendly to everyone she comes across. She will always give people the benefit of the doubt when meeting them and greets everyone with a smile. She wants everyone to feel included and noticed. PROTECTIVE One of the few ways to get on Clara's bad side is to hurt someone she cares about. She naturally looks out for others. She will always stand up for people she loves and will happily put herself in between them and whatever she deigns as "harm". Even though she's the youngest sibling, she considers herself their protector whenever she needs to be. WITTY Clara is quick with comebacks and sarcasm when the situation calls for it. She constantly thinks ahead and notices the small details of the world around her. Despite her young age, she seems to understand the world and will very happily make jokes about it. Her words can be a weapon. CONFIDENT Clara knows who she is and isn't afraid to show it to anyone. She has her own ways of doing things and believes in her own abilities. She's comfortable expressing exactly who she is. If anyone doesn't accept who she is, that's their problem, not her's. LOYAL Clara sticks to those she develops a relationship with. They can always depend on her and if a friend needs her, she will be there for them. She sticks by her friends and family will happily stand up for them. DEDICATED Once Clara starts on something, she sticks to it. She knows what she wants and she's willing to work hard to get it. She won't stop once she gets going.

Tegen's train ride was quite enjoyable, since she was with friends the whole time. On the train, Wenn's friend Mea gave them lunches he'd overpacked and they had snacks and treats. Wendel (she'd need a better nickname for him) and Bryn were her year mates and new best friends while Mea, Rosa and Rey were Wenn's best friends, but they all spent time together. When they got to the station though, they had to split up since the older kids were taking the carts up to the school. It was revealed that they were taking boats across the Lake to the school and Tegen absolutely refused. She was terrified of deep water. The girl had even begun to cry as she wanted to remain on the ground. Wendel and Bryn had to practically drag her onto the boat and hold her hand the entire time. By the time they arrived at the dock, she was shaking like a leaf in the wind. But they made it up to the school and by the time they arrived, she'd managed to calm down, mostly. When her name was called, Tegen took her seat on the stool and closed her eyes.
xxx𝓟𝒆𝓻𝓼𝓸𝓷𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓽𝔂xxx xxxxx⇾Distractable It's not hard to derail Tegen's trail of thought once it leaves the stations. Some say she has trouble focusing, but she's not really sure about that. xxxxx⇾Silly Not just quick with a joke, sometimes it's a goofy face or a weird sound. Tee is just good at defusing tense situations with some nonsense. xxxxx⇾Active Running, jumping, rolling down hills, she's doing whatever she needs to to burn off the excess energy. Her engine is constantly going and she can't sit still. xxxxx⇾Inquisitive Everything is an adventure to her and she loves to examine every square inch of whatever currently has her fancy. xxxxx⇾Careless Nothing seems to bother her much. Even the most stressful situations seem to run off her back, xxxxx⇾Dreamer Tegen is routinely told she has her head up in the clouds and that's just the way she likes it. She enjoys being laid back.

What had started out as a bad morning for Róisín had rapidly turned into a much better day for her. Like Da said, she'd already made two new friends, the sisters Amelia and Clara, and they spent the majority of the train ride talking about Star Wars. Róisín had asked about the Sorting process when they were getting near to the school, just so she knew what to expect. Thankfully Amelia and Clara came from a magical (half magic/half Muggle) household so they knew a lot more than her. But she was having a great time and she really enjoyed the boat ride. Rose loved swimming and thankfully since this was a lake, there were no sharks or anything like that. She idly wished she'd brought her bathing suit, but figured it would probably get too clod too quickly up in the highlands. They walked into the Great Hall together and when Róisín's name was called, she took her perch.
xxx𝓟𝒆𝓻𝓼𝓸𝓷𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓽𝔂xxx xxxxx⇾Excitable She's always full of energy and loves to chit chat, often goes off on tangents, and enjoys being bubbly. Róisín is typically the talkative one of her family and once she gets going, it's hard to get her to stop. xxxxx⇾Indecisive Usually, she needs someone to make a decision for her because she has trouble choosing. It's been referred to as decision paralysis before. Sometimes she even avoids situations that would make her make a decision about things. xxxxx⇾Compassionate To say Róisín has a big heart is an understatement. She's the type of person to go out of her way to avoid stepping on a bee on the grass and will do anything to avoid hurting someone's feelings. xxxxx⇾Brave Róisín has been one to face her fears and defeat them since she was little. When something scares her, she prefers to face it head on. She's one to stand up to bullies to defend the little guy. xxxxx⇾Confident She's the type of person to strike up conversation, even when she doesn't know anyone. That does sometimes make her the center of attention, but Róisín basks in the limelight. xxxxx⇾Diplomatic Talking her way out of a situation is Róisín's specialty. She's good at finding answers and breaking up arguments using just her words. Another thing she's good at is finding solutions to problems that benefit the most people.
The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking.... Brave to a fault and compassionate to boot, Being confident in yourself makes you strong. You'll be a perfect fit in... GRYFFINDOR!
