On the bright side, Air Benders might be repopulated because of Aang because the fan's statement said Aang's son will be the Airbender teacher of the new Avatar.

I don't know about all the particulars here but I can confirm that Nick announced today that yes there will be more Avatar - "The Legend of Korra".
----------------------------------
Hey guys! Good news for all of us Avatar fans out there. Just recently, the Associated Press confirmed The Legend of Korra for a 2011 release. Nickelodeon executive Brown Johnson says the series will focus on a teenage girl Avatar named Korra. She is described by Brown as hotheaded, independent, and "ready to take the world".
So we know that a new series is definitely on the way, but here are some interesting rumours that, as far as I know, aren't yet confirmed:
-One important setting to the story is "Republic City", which is a "metropolis powered by steampunk-type technology" that is "inhabited by people from all nations".
-There, Korra must deal with rampant crime and an anti-bender revolt.
-At the beginning of the series, Korra already knows Fire, Earth, and Water and is trying to learn Air.
-Aang's son, "Tenzin", is apparently her Airbending teacher.
-Aang is still in the series, but is featured in the Spirit World. He'll guide Korra through her journey, similar to what Roku did for Aang in the first series.
- Korra is from the Southern Water Tribe.
-There will be characters named Wei Bei and Meelo.
-Azula is still alive.
-Korra's "team" will be comprised of Team Avatar's grandchildren.
-Azula's grandchildren will be the antagonists.
Remember, these are just rumours and may or may not be true. We'll probably learn more info about the series on a later date, but for now, this is all we have. They released one picture already, showing Korra overlooking "Republic City". She's definitely older than Aang, maybe 15 or 16 as far as I can tell, and is wearing Water Tribe clothing. You can find the picture easily online. :] I'm personally super excited for the new series, aren't you? biggrin
