Forteanagoria: This mini-evo provides Mr. Cold and I am Mothman.

Secret Retreat: A nice finish, although the Soul Collection and Beau's Bow Pin are the only poses I think I will use. Lots of red and black stuff here, including two wigs.

Apprentice Charm: Hooray, a new REI with a more unusual color scheme and a cheerier theme~! I am pretty excited to see this one unfold.

I am still waiting for another long-term story EI. sweatdrop

Apprentice Charm: I'm really glad we got the cute sleeves for the Tuesday update. whee The wand seems quite similar to several items from the chess set pieces. Well, maybe it'll grow on me over time

Another week with limited Evolving Item action.

Forteanagoria: The new set focuses on MIB. It gives a crew of MIB in the back, an MIB hat, MIB shades, MIB jacket, MIB pants (which seem to do weird things to female legs), and Black Triangle. I miss the excellent backgrounds which were my favorite poses of the earlier evolutions; I hope one or two more are included before this one finishes.

Apprentice Charm: On Tuesday, this added a beautiful Magic Circle pose and the humorous OMG Bumble fried pose. Today, we get a lovely Capelet and a pair of fingerless Gloves.

I am still waiting for a high-end ($9.99) EI to replace the Compass of Seidh. I really miss the longer, more-involved storyline represented by the high-end EIs.

The two EI's that I use the most have to be Biancamella and Picolitrosso's Urn.

I like EI's better than RIG's. I never get anything decent out of a RIG.

EI Report for October 22nd ~

Timmy: Weird. Timmy. Again.

Case of Pietro: Something happened! Unfortunately, it happened while the camera was pointed away from the action! We are left with poses reflecting the aftermath: Detective's Tie, Thief's Gloves, Cancelled Match, Trash, "Riot!", Broken Bottle, Molotov Cocktail, and Mob.

Apprentice Charm: Tuesday saw two spiral wigs added to this item, one short and one long. I don't use wig poses much, but these do seem nice. The finale today adds a Scarf, a sleeveless Robe, a sleeveless short Dress, Boots with a cute blue ribbon and buckle detail, and Magic Broom, a pose that lets one's avatar ride broom. I have heard a rumor that Bumble reappears at the back of one of these poses; however, since my avatar is long-haired, I am unable to confirm the rumors. This item has been a blast all the way through. I've especially enjoyed pairing it with Dander poses. whee I may pick up a third, as I will need the sleeves as well as the hat for many outfits. . .

EI Report for October 29th ~

A new random-and-cheap EI appears! Owlpocalypse. I invested here for the default pose. I am not usually interested in apocalypse-themed items, but I couldn't forgo the owl. whee

Here's still hoping for a nice new long traditional EI to start up once the Halloween festivities wind down. User Image

Evil Timmy sweeps in to hijack the EIR! It's a Smooth Jazz takeover! gonk Well, let's look at the content of this week's report ~

Forteanagoria: Fantastic monsters galore this week. 3nodding Mokele Mbebe appears and also contributes a tail and some really cool-looking boots. Chupacabras join the fun and add spines and gloves. Ropen sails over and gives us a skin belt and some wings (These look pretty good with that forgotten Twilight skin, by the way.).

Anesidora's Woe: This new Rapid EI created by crossbon has the keywords "sinister" and "trouble", so I bet it will be pretty popular, although I'm not likely to get it myself. The initial pose set consists of a Mysterious Locked Box of intriguing shape, 'Amartia's Blindfold, and 'Amartia's Restraint ('Amartia is the Greek word that the New Testament translates as "sin". True fact! xd ).

Also, my last-gen Dappy Dandys finally finished evolving~! Hooray! blaugh I wish Buki would create another awesome story EI (Beauty & the Beast is being requested currently in SF, and I think that would be amazing.).

I got behind due to midterms. Here is my commentary for the reports to date:

November 12 ~

Anesidora's Woe: The box opens, emitting an ominous purple cloud. A black top and an asymmetrical purple cloak complete this week's new poses.

Timmy: He got a wheelchair, but the body mod is difficult to match. Adding a pose in the finale wherein all of Timmy's skin is covered would make the wheelchair usable to more Gaians.

November 19 ~

Anesidora's Woe: Two new pieces emerge: an arm guard for the near arm and a heavy, much-stylized blade.

Deinocti's Oath: This new REI promises to lead its followers along the path of assassins and mercenaries. This is not a path I choose to walk, but I will still take a peek to let you know what it grants. It starts off by giving a "dagger", a shawl in colors reminiscent of the Loki theme from Compass of Seidh, and black pants with some white detailing.

November 24: Thanksgiving Week Report ~

Deinocti's Oath: A belt cinch (in black and white to coordinate with the Pants) and a Tabard are new this week.

Forteanagoria: This pose set features the Jersey Devil and the Flatwoods Monster, offering a number of poses in red and green. I still miss the excellent backgrounds that added so much to the first few pose sets of this item.

Anesidora's Woe: Three poses add to the ongoing creepy factor of this item: A facial expression of Madness, a hairstyle called Obscura that covers the eyes up with hair, and Apelpisia, a nightmarish asymmetrical scarf. Suddenly, the plot changes! Anesidora offers up a Prayer, giving us the option to mod our arms into this pose of petition. Hope appears like a violet pendant. A violet scarf is broken into two poses, one a bit more wing-like, the other more like a collar. Anesidora is saved~! I may need to purchase this item just for the final two poses, Elpis' Ribbon Gown and a Silver Key.

Late-breaking Mid-Week Update~!

The new $9.99 Evolving Item is here~! It is called Antique Shop, and it will be a collaborative EI (like the Nightmare EI), with a different artist contributing each pose set. ethe starts us off with a bang! I almost couldn't decide which pose to showcase first; then I saw this amazing background. User Image

Now back to your regularly-scheduled report ~

Timmy: The evil mustache-and-beard combination was added. I am not sure how this counts as an "evolution", though, since owners of later generations of this item still saw no change.

Deinocti's Oath: Now there's a decorated Blade with a fantasy shape and a Neck Wrap with the option to cover one's mouth.

Catastrophe! reapersun's fat, lazy cat (Stein's description) has handed out a ton of new poses this week. 3nodding Catlovers will cherish the "sexy pose", showing the undignified underside grooming we've all seen cats do, and "I love you! See my butt? <3", the all-too-frequent result when one attempts the suave shouldercat pose. xd "The enemy spotted!" is pretty intense, as is "How could you?!", a bewildered and extremely wet feline. "Don't think I'll forget." is the natural progression from "How could you?!", and the week finishes up with "Chikn Hat". Will we see more from this unpredictable evolver next week? With this cat in charge, we just can't know in advance.

Sugarsuite: This is another rapid-evolver, and it is holiday-themed. Might it be Nutcracker-related? Let's watch and see. . . First, we get a pose called Tiny Gift; a dressed-up mouse proffers a treat. whee We also receive Array of Sweets, an elegant selection of delectables. I had hoped that the thumbnail would be equippable (as the one for Antique Shop is), but it is not; perhaps it may be added at the finale. I'll be keeping a close eye on this performance. blaugh

Forteanagoria: This mini-evolution grants "I am Jersey Devil" and "I am Flatwoods Monster". I hope we get another awesome background with the next pose set. blaugh

Catastrophe!: reapersun's cat seems frantically determined to please this week. xd It added a new pose every single day! eek "bzns man" shows the serious side, sporting a white collar and black tie."im an rpg hero" shows our friend wearing a green knitted hooded sweatshirt. heart "dappercat" is most appropriate for those dressy occasions (especially if the human is equipping Dappy Dandy). "sourcat" seems to have this sulky cat wearing a helmet made of . . . a lime? "why am i so delicious?" showcases the cat's lobster outfit. The cat then protests these embarrassing poses, acting out its fierce rage in "NO MORE COSTUME!" Today's new pose is called "cat becomes sentient" and has a calmer feel. Will the cat continue to provide hilarious updates? Here's hoping. mrgreen This would be a great time of year for some holiday hijinks from this creative feline.

Deinocti's Oath: The rich blue comes into play more prominently with the finale's poses, particularly in the Hood and the tacky crotchless pants. Suruchin is another weapon. The Sleeves and the Belt (more like a waist-tied sash, but it's pretty) give some nice accent options, and the Boots keep the color scheme going. We also get a Fox Familiar, standing or sitting. This item has been fun to watch, but it is too asymmetrical for my taste.

Sugarsuite: Tuesday's evolution gave us two new poses. White Chocolate Peineta is a cute, dessert-themed headpiece with a sweet surprise: Extending the avatar's far arm adds a matching treat to the hand, ready to be eaten. blaugh The Dark Chocolate Bolero has a refined stripe of muted gold. I wish it were symmetrical, though, as the avatar feels unbalanced to me with the far arm seeming so bare. Friday's new poses are the Mocha Bloomers, a cute style with great waist detailing and a subtle pattern, and Latte Swirl Scarf, which does look like it was made of the design on a latte. crossbon's latest journal entry confesses that she and PRlSM are working together to create this dessert-themed evolver, so we know we should continue to expect great poses from it. I got behind due to illness, grades being due, and spending Xmas with visiting family from out of state. sweatdrop

EI Report for December 18th ~

Forteanagoria: Reptilian Alien and Reptilian Politician are featured this time. This update gives the head of each, the body of each, the combination (head + body) of each, and a failed cloaking device pose of each (features the reptilian eye).

Sugarsuite: Tuesday saw the addition of the lovely Flowering Jasmine Tea Dress and coordinating Gunpowder Green Tea Sword. Today, we discover Pavlova Mini Hat, which is somewhat like a strawberry shortcake that looks like it's falling off your head, and Peppermint Cape, which is creamy on the outside with subtle stripes on the inside.

Antique Shop: Dang, I've lost my Rainy Day window; I need to pay better attention to this item. sweatdrop The new pose set features a sailing theme. Ship in a Bottle is a cute handheld item; when holding with both hands, the Ship escapes the Bottle. whee The Sailor Uniform is a cute decorated top in aqua and cream with fun epaulets. The diminutive Sailor Cap echoes the aqua and sits at a jaunty angle. The Cryselephantine Spyglass will coordinate well with the Prism Armor. There's also a wig. No one has yet stepped forward to claim ownership of this pose set, so we can only guess. . .

EI Report for December 22 ~

Sugarsuite: Marzipan Medley adds some very pink clutter to the shoulder area of the avatar, while Marzipan Cincher brings in the waist with some cream, peppermint, and pink detailing. Extending the far hand while wearing the cincher reveals a matching headband. The finale poses are mostly body modifiers and wigs. I don't know enough about ballet to describe the Cavalier's Variation properly; the Queen Fairy's Variation seems to be en pointe (as I understand the term) and looks very elegant. The Cavalier's Crown & Hair delivers what it promises. The Queen Fairy's Crown seems to be attached to her wig, too, and reveals a Sugarplum when the far hand is extended. The Cavalier's Jacket adds an arm modification. The Queen Fairy's Shimmering Gown is fine enough for the most formal of occasions. This was a fun team REI; I wonder whether we'll see more of this type of EI in the coming year.

Owlpocalypse: Although unannounced, this random evolver added some joy this week: The Owlrnament pose is perfect for those holiday decorating avatars, and the Snowling pose celebrates winter's fluffy precipitation. heart

Last week's Evolving Item Report Commentary:

Antique Shop: Mishiri adds in a military pose set, complete with a medal (framed or unframed), a decorative shako at an angle it would never stay during a parade, a military coat that's askew for some reason, and a great pair of boots that don't modify the feet and have a good style. We also found out via journals that we have PRlSM to thank for the previous update.

January 7th ~

Timmy did a bit more weird and slow Timmy stuff.

REI SOF Taiga was introduced. It starts out with dog tags, a beret, and pants, all in the classic woodland camouflage pattern but with golden star accents. I like the pants; it's nice to see something a little less plain as an option for pants.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
January 14th ~
SOF Taiga added some headphones and a corset this week. There's been quite a bit of furor over the corset in Site Feedback, since many people had been hoping for a masculine-oriented or at least gender-neutral item; some also feel that a camo-print corset is objectifying women as sex objects instead of celebrating the types of strength a woman can exemplify. I will be able to use the corset (if I can find a jacket to cover up my avatar's arms), but I agree with those who have said that a khaki or olive buttondown collared shirt would have been preferred with this item and would have seemed more natural given its theme. I'm always a fan of more classic tailored items, and I hope to see a few poses like that in the future from this rapid evolver.
Antique Shop saw the addition of DrinkyTengu's magical touch this week. She brings in a majestic Megatherium Skeleton that looks like it might be part of the collection Blathers curates in Animal Crossing. User Image She also includes the outfit of the sloth hunter: a Sloth Claw Necklace, Sloth Claw Gaucho Hat, Sloth Skin Poncho, and Slothleather Pants. A bit of creativity can turn these poses into an extraordinary avatar.
January 21st ~
SOF Taiga: The Boots are not combat boots at all; they are tall and toe-pinching. The Tactical Vest can add nice detail to an outfit.
Zodiacal: This year-long monthly-evolver starts with Aquarius and offers six poses in addition to the default. The Waterfall Badge is like a very asymmetrical scarf that falls to the feet. The Sleeveless Uniform is a detailed tunic; I hope I can find some sleeves to wear with it. The Starfall Cloak seems quite swoopy and fun. The Wrapped Scarf has intricate detailing on one side; I'll have to play with layering to work with this pose. Aquarius Rules the Ankle is an adorable shoe-accent. I'm not sure why it only appears on one foot, but I've really been wanting more accents at the very bottom of the avatar, and I hope this trend continues throughout the signs. The Wind Pendants seem to be floating wings anchored by jeweled weights. I like this item so far and I want Gaia to know that I fully support traditional (non-rapid) Evolving Items, but the exorbitant price on this piece precludes my obtaining more than one.
Forteanagoria: The finale presents companions Gray and Space Brother, along with equippable pieces of their outfits. Close Encounter is a nice UFO background, and Gray Skin is not gray at all but a pale green that's a bit luminous. This item has added a fine collection of unearthly options, but I am most pleased with the backgrounds (Moonless Night, Misty Woodland, Crop Circles), the Crop Circle Shirts, and the Mothman Wings.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

January 28th ~

Dream Town: This new REI starts out with a Film Reel the avatar can hold and a Jukebox. It seems to promise iconic poses from Old Hollywood; let's see what it actually contains as it unfolds.

SOF Taiga: The Belt is actually some type of waist-decoration, it seems. The Med Pack seems like a small messenger bag. Garrison is a cute little hat; it's got a good style, but I'm sure it is falling off my head. gonk On the other hand, the fans of tiny lopsided tophats are doubtless pleased. The Medic Dress has a lot of non-military-looking detail; it's a fun item but seems pretty irrelevant to the theme. I am still hoping for a symmetrical (3/4 view, though, of course) Dress Uniform featuring collar tabs, shiny buttons down the front and on all four pocketflaps and both epaulets, and maybe some decorative braid. whee

Antique Shop: This week, milkbun adds in some art nouveau poses. The Long Cape in dark grey and orange swirls to one side. The Boots are correctly angled and sized. The Coat Vest seems perfectly designed to complement the Long Cape, having a collar that extends a bit more on the near side. The Copper Drag has a fun exaggerated look, complete with dangling charm and roiling smoke. The Copper Mirror finishes this evolution's pose set and is my favorite this time. It shows your avatar's face if you sit near it.

PostPosted: Sun Feb 27, 2011 10:52 pm
Well, I finally have some time to catch my breath and catch up on the EIR commentary.

February 4th ~

SOF Taiga: The midweek evolution delivered a stylish Captain's Cap and a very asymmetrical Cape. The finale adds a very short Miniskirt, a bolero-like Short Cape, an asymmetrical Coat, the Femme Fatale Wig, and an enormous Gatling Gun. I am disappointed that the item did not include one classic, tailored dress uniform tunic or coat.

Dream Town: The midweek evolution delivered two diner classics, the Diner Jukebox and old school Roller Skates.Today, we receive the ultra-cool Varsity Jacket and the all-in-one Jeans and Boots. Will this item continue to provide those classic Old Hollywood poses? We'll have to wait and see. . .

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
February 11th ~
Antique Shop: The first new pose is an Ancient Sword of teal-and-black damascus steel. It has some of the hand problems swords tend to on Gaia (because of the shape of our hands, I believe) but fewer than many others do. Also, there is an amazing extra pose with the sword: If you hold it with both hands out in front, it dances and glows in front of your avatar. User Image I don't think I've seen anyone take advantage of this pose yet, which is a shame, for it is pretty amazing; if you own the 2nd Generation Antique Shop, you could be among the first to try this pose. The second pose is the cream Ancient Sash with teal accents; it's mostly a swoopy neckwarmer, so it's a nice flourish piece. The Ancient Vest and the Ancient Loincloth don't cover up very much but do have more of that great teal color. The Ancient Accessories, which I expected to be nigh-unusable earrings, are actually decorative foot covers. I like them a lot, but I am still working out how best to use them.
Dream Town: Midweek, we gained the Perky Ponytail, that sassy blonde number with the inseparable pink bow, and the Poodle Dress, another classic. Today, we get the Now Showing background featuring two different movie posters. We also get Winged Thunder, a red classic car! whee This car has a surprise, too; if you turn around while sitting in it, you will be at a drive-in movie theatre. This item continues to please with classic references. Gaians are hoping for a black leather jacket and a billowy white dress; stay tuned next week to see whether or not these dreams are fulfilled.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

February 18th ~

Zodiacal: This year-long evolver dances on to cream and aqua representations of Pisces this week. The first new pose is Pisces Creativity, which is reminiscent of those long silken scarves on a rod that dancers use; this one uses representations of fish leaping into (or out of?) water. This pose looks great with many of the Enko poses of Mizuchi's Jewel. The Pisces Shy Hair is unexpectedly bold, an asymmetrical cream short cut with a huge swath of aqua in the middle. It pairs well with the Pisces Clip and Sidetail, although wearing both at once requires two Zodiacals. The cream Pisces Oversized Shirt slips off one shoulder and is accented with a few flourishes. The Pisces Mismatched Socks (one argyle and one striped) make me go for my Fausto's Bottle. The set finishes off with Pisces Rules the Feet, a pair of loose-fitting cream boots with aqua toecaps.

Dream Town: The midweek evolution added Lightning Hawk's Jacket, a black leather jacket over a white T-shirt, and Greasy Pompadour, an exaggerated hairstyle for the hip male. The finale gives a Western Star's Coat and Hat, a Glam Star's Hair and Dress, Caught on Film, which places the head and bust of the avatar on a strip of iconic film, and Best Performance, a golden statue award. Were your dreams fulfilled? Did the item whisk you away from the mundane into a magical place? I think it must have.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
February 25th ~
Case of Pietro evolved!: Speaking of hopes and wishes, I know this was the best present Gaia could have given to many of you this week. It is a dream in red, khaki, and silver, too. The Mob Queen's style is yours for the equipping. Her Crown is a dashing hat, her pale Hair is modern and chic, her Shirt and Pants add some basics that are versatile. Her Gloves look a bit sinister. Her Pin and her Scarf are nice finishing accents. She is a Mob Queen, though, so we also see her Case, about the contents of which it would be impolite to inquire, and her Tommy-gun. Long Live the Queen! lets us shout out our loyalty, in calligraphy, no less, to this fearsome female.
Antique Shop: What will Fayren Pickpocket find in the stuffed backroom of the Antique Shop? Oooh, it seems she's uncovered a "rusting clock lantern that still works despite its age." This seems promising. . . The Clock Lantern itself is intricate and illuminated and mounted on an ornate rod. When lifted in a certain way, it glows blue. The Lanterncarrier's Coat, Waistcoat, Boots, and Cuffs complete this evolution in a dream of indigo, black lace, and illuminated quatrefoils.
Time for some more commentary~! User Image
March 4th ~
Galactic Soldier: This REI is being created by Buki, and it's meant to reference some Warhammer 40k and Starcraft goodness. It starts out with a chest medal and a lovely green chest armor and matching boots.
Timmy: Now he's extremely hirsute.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

March 11th ~

Galactic Soldier: Helmet and gloves are added. This suit seems pretty elegant. I really like this rich emerald color and hope we get more gold shop items in it soon. whee

Antique Shop: Finale time~! Each artist adds two poses. Here's my conjectured list of artists and their contributions: ethe adds the Boy's Gloves and Pants. PRlSM gives us a Salute and Sea Legs. Mishiri adds a Belt and Rifle to the Medallion set. DrinkyTengu contributes Sloth Body Paint and a live Megatherium. milkbun adds a Hand Vanity Mirror and the Gentleman's Hair. pepper-tea sneaks in an Ancient Cape and Hairstyle. Fayren Pickpocket gives us the Lamplighter's Scarf and Eyes. What did you think of this collaborative item? It felt a bit short to me. I'm glad I have two but won't ever need three.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
March 18th ~
Galactic Soldier: It continues to form a protective armor set, adding a Belt and a huge Gun.
Zodiacal: This romp through the stars cycles to Aries and celebrates with gray plaid and cherry red. We get Horns, a Coat, Chained Pants, a Mask, an eyepatch, and an arm bandanna. I don't see myself using this set at all, but those who favor black and red avatars should find lots to use here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

March 25th ~

Galactic Soldier: This week sees the addition of Skull Pauldrons, a warhammer Axe, and an Alien Beast (alive and then dead).

Owlpocolypse: This cutie random evolver adds Owldrops, where each shimmering aqua drop is an owl, cozy Owl Boots, and the standard-like Owlbrella. whee

Vivacenote: The new REI promises to tell us a story about life, love, and loss. The story begins with a brief Top, rather courtly Pants, and a Metal Clinch. I wonder who is bringing us this story. Let's keep an eye on this one. . .
