Okay, so I thought that it might be fun (and a way to boost the guild activity) to talk about our Bowie stuff here. Like records, CDs, movies, concert DVDs, posters, action figures, etc.

Currently, I have in my possession:

-Labyrinth VHS and DVD (but I lost it somewhere)
-Best of Bowie 1979-1984
-Bowie VH1 Storytellers DVD/CD
-Aladdin Sane Poster
-Reality Tour DVD (I'm considering making a Video Lounge Day out of this)

I've got an enormous Aladdin Sane poster that I got for free from a grateful and handsome young man at the local music store, after I calmed down some other customer who'd been having an emotional breakdown because he was unable to find a Ziggy Stardust poster, and was screaming at the manager. I asked him if he was okay with a poster of a different Bowie incarnation, such as Aladdin Sane or the Thin White Duke. Apparently the guy wasn't aware that Ziggy Stardust and David Bowie were actually the same person....he was perfectly happy to purchase an Aladdin Sane poster and leave quietly. So, the manager gave me one for free because he was absurdly nice like that.

I've got some more stuff, but the story behind that one amuses me. It's about four and a half feet long and hangs right above my bed...scary as hell. Sometimes it will fall down in the night and I'll wake up with an enormous Bowie face crashing towards me.

Yeah, there's just something about Aladdin Sane posters, 'cause I share a room with my sister, and the shadow from his face against the white backdrop freaks her right out.

Also, that's awesome. I had to buy my normal-sized one like a shmuck. sad

Just had my nineteenth birthday. My friend came waltzing in with an Aladdin Sane poster (yeah, another one!) Then my other friend, who has made art projects for birthdays for the past year, gave me a collagey picture of Life On Mars Bowie. (It was a very Bowie day. When we were writing names on cups, people just kept on adding name after name to mine. 'David Bowie' is scrawled in between 'Simon' and 'Tony Stark')

I also have a vinyl copy of Scary Monsters, that I found for $3 in a little used junk store. It sounds so much more brilliant than mp3.

Then there's the Thin White Duke postcards that I bought to send to a friend a while ago. They're hanging on my wall beside my desk.

I wouldn't expect otherwise. One of these days, I'm going to buy me a record player and then grab a bunch of records from "back in the day". Like, "back in the day before we were even born".

And I'd be out, what, $50 bucks in all?

I should take inventory of all the David Bowie items I have. Now when I look, it's so diff to find something I don't have. I have over 60 albums on vinyl. Magazines galore, posters, books, cds, cassettes, shirts. The list goes on. I'll try to do some of it and post tomorrow. I even have his first album, self-titled, on vinyl, which is rare and worth $700+ dollars. LOVE it.

Also, to GrowingDandelion, record players are pricey new. Perhaps if you find a pre-owned one, that would be the best bet. I got mine at a flea market for $17. Great deal. Good luck!

Kimbo, that is an amazing record. I'm so jealous right now, you have no idea.

Due to limited funds, my Bowie collection is pretty scarce and large amounts of it need to be replaced.

Also, yeah, record players are generally pretty reasonable used, but if you want good speakers (and you do want good speakers), then that's where you have to shell out a lot.

Oh, doll, don't be jealous. It was luck that I happened upon it at a flea market. I knew a guy who knew a lady who was a huge Bowie fan. The poor thing ended up dying in a car accident so I bought practically her whole collection. The record, his first, was priced at $20-$25 dollars, if I remember correctly. It wasn't until I saw it in Record Collector magazine, that I knew the value of it, well monetary, it's priceless to such a huge Bowie fan as myself.

I'm sure your collection will grow much larger, it takes time, believe me. I will definitely take note of what I have soon, perhaps tomorrow to tell you all. It's quite expansive. =/

As for the record players, you are right. Thankfully I found one for cheap with wonderful speakers, but I have a friend who knows a guy who spent $7500 on speakers for his $3000 dollar record player. Not my cup of tea, by any means. That's outrageous.

I don't know if memories/experiences count as 'posessions', but I am secretly very proud of the fact that my first casual samesex encounter was with a black chick into androgyny and accompanied by 'Space Oddity' playing in the background.

Sorry if it's TMI, but I think the level of geekiness in that is astounding. xp

It is a bit much... once I get some funds I plan to save up a couple hundred, maybe as much as $1000 to get some really good quality equipment, but there comes a point when the sound quality improvement per price is just so minuscule...

Also, please do post your collection! c:

Edit: I have pictures now.

Very true. I'll stick to what I have now. I barely have any time to spin any records as it is, so I won't waste the money. Oooh nice collection so far! I shall try to write down what I have so that everyone can see. I did take pictures of my room quite a while ago and snapped some Bowie pics. Take a gander if you feel like it.

Click.

The picture of the debut album is there. ^^

Amazing. /speechless

Seriously, you have one hell of a collection there. How long did it take you to put that together?

I took another picture of my wall after moving some stuff around and hanging up a picture of Bowie that my friend drew for my birthday.

wow. Y'all have a ton of stuff. biggrin I don't know if I mentioned this, but I found a CD of Diamond Dogs a while ago. I really wish he got the rights to put that musical together.

Also, when I go to college this September, I'm moving in with my grandparents. There's already a nice record player in their, but it needs a needle, and I heard those aren't expensive, so I'm good. (I can even play my Final Cut album for the first time. biggrin )
