Possibly, so, but he just wants her to get stronger than she already is and to prove herself, not stand on the sidelines and do all the healing.

I don't think it's in terms of fighting to be honest. He does! want her to get stronger, like when she defied him in her cell with the slap ( whee ) but I personally believe it's in terms of enforcing her mental strength. He doesn't want her to be insecure of herself or rely too much on others like she does now. I don't think he tried to cut her bond with her Nakahama but simply wanted her to become an individual, not 'just a part of the group' and grow from her role as the damsel in distress
