"I haven't really been dating," she said. Slept around. But dated? No. "When I was working with Chic I had Hannah Winter keep me pretty busy so I didn't have time to do much else but slave for her." And the cat was out of the bag. It was in her nature to name drop a bit, but this wasn't the situation she wanted to name drop about. She didn't want to get into the details with her relationship at Chic. But she just said Hannah Winter's name - one of the biggest names in fashion - its unlikely to go unnoticed.

Hoping it would, Ana quickly changed the topic. "Are there any alterations? This is a fine fabric, it must not be too easy to work with."

“I’m sure.” Renee’s brows rose at the mention of Hannah Winter, curiosity joining suspicion. That name was like a golden ticket, up with the highest and well-to-do designers. Heck, she could just as easily said she was working with Christopher Noir, for heaven’s sake! Renee wasn’t sure how she felt about that; was Ana flattering her and lying about it, or did she mean it? It was different once Renee knew that the model had worked with some of the best.

“No, just a thought,” Renee said absently as she unfolded a length of the trim. “It’s nothing compared to Ms. Winter, I’m sure. I can’t imagine you willing to let somebody else design with you after being under her wing.” She chuckled sheepishly. No way was she anywhere near that good, though she certainly hoped to be one day.

"She's talented, but a b***h," she said. She tried to say the word 'b***h' as endearingly as possible, but even so, it wasn't a secret to anyone that Hannah Winter was a cold-hearted woman. Books and films have even been released after her cruelty, such as The Demon Wearing Frada. "She has some beautiful designs, but there are so many talented designers who can outshine her."

She smiled at Renee with a wink, feeding her a subtle compliment. It would be scandalous to say an up and coming designer had more talent than someone as powerful as Hannah Winter, but it wouldn't be truthful to say Renee didn't have spectacular designs. "Have you gone to any of the fashion shows in the city? Hannah attends most of them, that's where I first met her. You and I should go to one some time."

At this point, Renee was working the trim around the neckline and wrapping it down around the bust as she went, still trying to decide if she liked what she saw or not while Ana chatted. She nodded at the admission of Hannah’s less than pleasant demeanor, aware of what the press had said about her and what had been seen in public. She just wasn’t sure if fame was the problem or if the woman was naturally a constant aboard the PMS train.

“Not recently; I’ve been too busy,” Renee admitted, smiling at the wink thrown her way. Big dreams, for certain, but then, so was hoping to make it in the fashion world at all, and she’d made it this far, hadn’t she? She waved her hand at Ana, glancing at the other models; most were busy, but there were a couple paying attention to them, or rather, the fashions, waiting for their own fitting or to be done in general.

“I’ve really wanted to, though. It’d be great to have someone with me. We should definitely go sometime!” She cheered up at the thought and gave up on the trim, finished the fitting as it was and nodded. They were almost done. “Say, Ana, would you like to go for coffee or something sometime?”

"That'd be great!" Ana had been in the city for a while, and sure, she had friends, but most were other models who were willing to back stab her at any moment to get ahead. But with Renee, they're both in the industry, but not in the same field. Perhaps a genuine friendship could form, they seemed to be getting along well already. There were others too, RIley and Khahlela, but she doesn't see them all too often, though its always nice when they do run into each other. "Most of the girls I've meet in the city have been really competitive, just looking for someone to help them get ahead. Its refreshing to meet someone more genuine."

Renee felt a huge wave of relief at Ana’s enthusiasm, a mental cheering squad firing off in the back of her mind as she smiled again. She’d been in the city for about a year now, but had hardly met anyone who stayed in one spot for more than a few seconds. A real friend would be more than welcome. At least they had something in common and wouldn’t have to go for the jugular when trying to get ahead.

“I know what you mean,” she agreed with a nod as the final piece was removed and the fitting begun. “Sometimes, I think fame goes to people’s heads in the wrong way. Why be at the top of your game if you can’t even bother to enjoy it anymore?”

((Sorry for late reply! Midterms/Computer issues. And too lazy to switch to mule.))

"I agree," Ana said. She had met countless people who took the advantages of fame for granted and let the disadvantages rule their lives. She also knew of countless people who were able to avoid the disadvantages. Only time will tell which path Ana would go, the amount of fame she has received was pretty limited. "I do have to admit to selling out a bit myself, but not for the fame. This job is a nice start though, and much more down to earth than my past experiences with people in fashion. Or at least, you are down to earth."

As much as Ana would like to believe that she was down to earth, she knew to say or even think as such would be lying to herself. Ana knew how out of touch she truly was, but did her best to hide this in professional settings - she needed to maintain tact. Everything was about making an impression, putting up a front, being the model example of the ideal, relatable woman.

Having come from a wealthy background and with a career that she began as just a hobby - Ana wasn't all that relatable for most. But things have been changing in her life, perhaps what began as a front was becoming reality. A lot of dividing lines were being blurred in her life, and it was becoming disorienting, but she kept needing to pull herself together. Because if there was one code that was definitive of Ana Cruz it was to always make a good impression - even if it meant completely hiding who and what she is.

Renee laughed with Ana and finished the fitting with a wave of her hand. “Well, not too down to earth,” she countered. “After all, you gotta have big dreams to even think of fame, right?” She really didn’t want to consider whether or not she was selling herself out, though the designer was pretty sure she hadn’t yet. Heck, she’d hardly done anything to further herself until lately and was surprised her agent hadn’t dropped her like a rock. Then again, this might have been her last chance, a thought that gave her goosebumps.

“You’re just exploring your options while you can,” she reasoned, not knowing the truth of Ana‘s debacle with Chic. She herself had worked hard to get where she was; that is, once she’d figured it out. Maybe a seemingly random decision didn’t count as a dream…
