There was one Bird that she didn't see, though. One whom wasn't locked in a cage, one whom hadn't been kept out of doors. It was a very, very small sort of avian. Brightly coloured feathers of reds and yellows, some black helping to bring out the beauty. Oh yes - this one was quite a flashy little thing - but had been small enough to slip in the store and be unnoticed.
Having been quite comfortable upon its unnoticed perch in the rafters, the little Bird's nap had been interrupted with Nikel's wild excitement. He'd brought with him something scraggly and grey, something with little life. OF course, this Bird wasn't just an ordinary Bird oh no!
He understood everything Nikel had chattered on about and had seen the purple haired man work his magic before. It seemed this was his latest project - how swell!
There was something needy about her. Two black eyes watched Raven as she lurked throughout the store - looking at this, reaching for that, studying here and there. The fishes seemed to beckon her, at least, that's what it looked like. Tilting his head, he tried to focus upon her in the aquatic room, but couldn't pick out what had caught her eye.
Oh well.
It didn't matter.
He'd seen enough and had already made up his mind.
The sound of the familiar heels clicked and clacked the floor. So they were returning - there were two sets of heels, really. Shanuh's and Nikel's. Oh oh oh! Yes - they just had to see who he'd picked out.
Today was going to be a great day, he could tell. It was in the air, and the reason for his life had finally appeared!
In a blurr of colour, the little Bird zooomed from his sneaky hideout and buzzed once, twice, around Raven's head before landing lightly upon the top of her hair. He could hardly be felt, such light weight, so thin and delicate boned. But he was tangible, oh yes, and he was very much for real.
Chirruping brightly, the Western Tanager proudly proclaimed to both Nikel and Shanuh that this was his and would always be. Whether or not Raven agreed, it didn't matter - everything was going great today, and she'd learn to accept him with time. Oh yes, yes she would!
Puffing out his chest, he waited for their reactions. Why shouldn't Raven be proud to have him? He was better than any old fish ANYDAY! Besides - she could stand some colour in her life, couldn't she?
Nikel had indeed brought Shanuh down, locked arm-in-arm with the other man. Eyes sparkling, he stopped as he saw first Raven - his soon-to-be-marvelous little girl - and then that silly little Bird!
"What on earth is HE doing here?" He exclaimed, though a giggle had entered his voice. There was no anger present - oh no! Just a sort of strange delight. Could it be. . .?
Shanuh looked cooly from girl to Bird, a knowing smile tugging on the edges of his lips. Hm. So this was the girl Nikel was fawning over? This was his little toy he meant to transform into something truly beautiful? Well - she certainly could stain a clean up on the phsyical, but really, she glowed with her own unique sort of brightness.
And the little Tanager had seen that too.
"It's too late to do anything about it now," he murmured softly, for both Raven and Nikel's sake. "Tell me, girl, I hope you're not allergic to brids?"

Raven looked from Nikel to the other man with a little confusion on her face. "Allergic to birds?" Raven stammered lightly in her fight with shyness, "N-n-not birds...cats maybe... but not birds." Raven feeling tiny claws tickle her scalp, rolled her eyes to the top of her head as if she could see what was sitting there. She stood still like a statue, scared that if she moved it would fly back into the rafters. "I-I'm- I'm- guessing this one got free?"
Raven stood still waiting for the bird to get startled and fly back into the rafters, or for one of the men to make an attempt at her head with a net. However niether of them moved. Nikel stared at her with a giddy mischievious smile, and the other just kind of had a thoughtful half-smile. The three of them stood there for about ten minutes unmoving. The two men with thier secret smiles, and Raven with her confused dumfounded frozen-in-place stance.
"Can I move? Aren't you going to try and catch... him? I think my left toe is going... Numb."---
((ummm....I wanted more...but I didn't know what else to say since I'm meeting Shanuh for the first time. >< Your post is so well written in comparision- SO CREATIVE and unexpected. I'm drawing Raven with the Tanger on her head as described above. **edit: I already did, I'll scan it in and add it here.))

Nikel couldn't help but be delighted by the fact that his girl was chosen~! If that didn't make her even more wonderful in the cross-dressers eyes. "Feel free to move all you want, dearie - the little tanager has picked you! He won't fly away, he's yours now, so we will certainly NOT be capturing him today." He clapped his hands, practically squealing in happiness.
Glancing over at Shanuh, still linked arm in arm with him, Nikel gave a quiet laugh. "Seems the tanager has a good eye. Her homeliness didn't deter his decision at all!"
Shanuh tore his intense gaze away from girl and Bird, only to quirk a brow at his friend. Ah Nikel . . . Limited in only being able to focus on the physical and beautiful. It was amazing his friend managed to survive society. Hell, it was amazing Nikel even bothered to be able to do his job~! But his flaws were what made him beautiful and unique, and Shanuh couldn't ask for his friend to be any other way.
Glancing back at Raven, Shanuh's expression stayed mild. "Well I suppose that's that. The tanager will do what he pleases, so don't be too starteled if he flies away. He won't be leaving you anytime soon, I can guarantee that."
Unlinking his arm with Nikel, the man brushed back a few loose strands of hair. He realized that the girl had absolutely no clue about what was happening in her life. Taken under Nikel's wing, and chosen by a Bird. Well, her life was about to take an interesting turn for . . the better? Or the worse? Maybe a turn for both. She was special, no doubt about that, but she was also very much doomed.
Giving Nikel a pat on his back, he gave a polite nod to Raven. "Have fun." And with that, the shop keep headed out, taking his leave to finish the work he'd been so hastily snatched away from.
Nikel hardly noticed. "Well, darling - now that you have a friend, let's get you settled in a place to live. The complex is just down the street, not even a block! Oh, you're going to love it. It's not much to look at on the outside, but just wait until you see the rooms! They're to die for. They really, really are."
Everything happened fast with Nikel. Poor Raven. Poor, POOR, poor Raven.

--Can't Think of More For Now--Done--
Raven took two weary steps, and the bird did not falter in his perch atop her head. Cautiously, as Raven had some secret slight fear of birds, she slid her hand up to her head and nudged it against his breast. She felt the slight poke of his nails as he moved to sit on her hand.
A memory came into Ravens head then... Of a young cockatiel sitting on her father's shoulder suddenly flying up at her and latching onto her face...Baby hadn't liked her competition.
But this crazy colorful bird was now puffed up and preening him self in her hand. It showed no aggression, and somehow Raven knew that she would Not be able to leave the shop without him.
"Well Nikel, it seems I have made two friends in one day. I think I'm getting overwhelmed with all this change in my life, let's go to this complex you speak of. I'd like to rest."
Raven pulled her hand and the bird closer to herself in a protective possesive way. Very slowly and very carefully, with a shaking hand she used her index finger to scrach the back of the bird's neck. When his feathers poofed out and his eyes closed in silent pleasure, Raven's heart went out to the little thing. It seemed now, that the two of them were inseperable.
"Will he fly away? Or should I ask for a box or cage?" Raven pulled the bird even closer, almost to close, but continued her ravish scratching.
Raven was so intranced by the little thing she hardly noticed Nikel walk past her and out the shop. She didn't hear him call her name and bark impatiently for her to follow him down the road to the apartments. When she did notice, she blankly followed him. Another question about the cage before she walked out, but it was drowned out by Nikel gleeful wiggle strut and the matching rhythm of clack clacking stilletto heels.
As Nikel had promised the exterior of the apartment complex was quite bland, and maybe even a little shabby.

When Raven found her way up into her apartment she was astonished at the size of the rooms. Her eyes could not grow wide enough to cover the expanse of surprise that she gained upon walking into her new home.
The living room was much bigger than the complex would have led you to believe was possible. There was a good sized kitchen, and a good master bedroom with a bathroom that sported a giant bathtub with roman facets and a large vanity...
But what surprised Raven the most was the that there was a second slightly smaller room. It was made out with a twin sized bed, a chest for toys, a small tv, and a perch. Raven assumed the perch was for the bird but the bed and toys confused her. The bird on Raven's shoulder flittered to the perch and began to preen more. It stared at her the entire time putting Raven at unease, so she opened the windows. She was startled to find that the window in well she supposed "the bird's room" had no screen. It was just as well.
She walked into the kitchen and inspected what she had to work with for dinner. There were surprises at every turn. The refrigerator was already stocked and the pantry too. It seemed however that Nikel forgot something rather important. There wasn't any dish wear or utensils.
She called for take-out then hurried to her new tub to start a rather VERY hot bath.
It was going to be nice here indeed.

Noises in the kitchen startled Raven so bad while in the bath tub that she chocked on the water. Then dawning struck when she remembered the take out she had ordered. She dawned a robe and went out into the kitchen. It seemed that the take-out indeed had come, but it was already set up on the counter. Looking closely at one of the bins of fried rice there was a hastily jotted note, and a Platinum Visa card. Apparently Nikel had visited and noticed she was in the tub, paid the delivery guy and left this hunk of plastic on the counter.
What was weirder was that it had her name on it and according to Nikel's note no spending limit. He would be too busy to help her furnish the apartment in lavish way that he wanted Raven to live, and he sincerely hoped that Raven could do it on her own.
Raven drained the bathtub and then the noodles and rice before she went to bed. On the morrow she decided she would take up Nikel's offer and have a little spree... it was too bad he couldn't make it though.
