Sabriel is a book at about a young woman who is fresh out of high school. She travels across the wall into the Old Kingdom where magic is part of everyday life. She has trained her whole life to put the dead back to rest. Wielding seven bells she has to rescue her father from death itself to fight one of the greater dead.
I personally enjoy this series, this is the first in the series
