so, i have this problem...
i have a collection of monthly letters, dating back to 2004. since a few months after i started gaia until recently, i've collected them into a small hoarde - 1 of each letter in 2004, and from 2005 to the beginning of 2009 i have one letter for each item it can make (2 or 3 depending on how many items were for that month.)
however, this year i haven't had the time or energy to collect them, so i'm currently half a year behind. and honestly, i can count on one hand the number of mc items that have come out in the past year or so that i've been actually excited about. and it's gotten to the point where i'm not as willing to spend tens-to-hundreds of thousands of gold for something to just sit in my inventory when i could be using it to buy pretty breedables with.
also recently, i've really been eying the afk and omg hats from 2003. yes, i'm slow to the game, i know. xd i've always liked them, but now i can say that i might actually wear them on my avatar, so i would have a point to owning them as opposed to just having them as eye candy in my inventory.
however, even after factoring that in, i still can't help but look at my letters as more than just pixels gathering value and dust in my inventory. and especially with the price of 2004 and some 2005 letters, once i sell them there's no going back.
this is where you come in, oh lovely friend or random gaia user. should i sell my letters, or keep them around longer?

Actually, I would keep the 2004s, because those are still subject to inflation (at least some of them) and some of them are just valuable. So unless you hate the items inside, I'd probably keep those - well the ones with some value that'd be hard to replace.
2005 .. has some decent value items still, but that was kind of the beginning of the end. I might keep the more expensive-item ones (Kiki ...Coco maybe... the guitars?) and loose the others. (Unless you have sufficient numbers of those items that you don't think you'd ever want to use them... they're definitely useful for currency and you'll need a lot of currency to score the afk/omg.)
After that, the vast majority of those items are never going to get any more valuable, imo, and most of them are, as you say, crappy. XD The only reason I donate for collectibles anymore is to kill the ads on the site.
I think the bottom line is what you'd get more use out of. I like my omg and wear it regularly. If you're just trading one inventory pretty for another, the omg is probably a better investment, too, because it's a lot rarer than like ... a November 2006 letter.
Plus it's kind of fun to quest for things. whee

You should use them to buy Pupfins. *snickers* I kid. Srsly, I couldn't ever part with mine, but then, I don't really have a lot of item goals, so if you can use yours to get your omg/afk, I say go for it! But, like lumi said, I would probably at least keep the '04s XD

I agree with Lumi... sell the crap and keep the good stuff, unless you really need to sell the good stuff to get your OMG.
I had to sacrifice and sell most of my valuable things to get my D Tail, except for the ones I refused to get rid of and actually used.
I also say go for the OMG. Cause you deserve to have a spiffy looking avatar and I personally think the OMG pwns the AFK. I loved mine when I still had it. I'd probably try harder to get it back and wear it if I didn't wear the Ruby mask all the time. 8D
So yeah, go for it!
