Tarvek turned to look as well.
The egg shook more in the coil.
"It's shaking, does that mean it's too cold? Tarvek asked. "I can turn up the heat."

"I... I think so..." Sophie tried not to be too amused by his panic. It was easy, considering she was trying not to squeak herself.

A beak poked out, finally, followed by a pair of dark eyes, the rest of the face still in the egg.
"Should we help it?" Tarvek asked, grabbing his wrench shakily.

"Keep your tools away from it," Sophie ordered. "I don't think we should help.... If you help a chick out of its egg, it won't be strong enough to live... maybe..."

A split separated what was left of the egg and she tumbled out onto the grass, panting a bit and wide eyed. She looked around, then at Sophie. her head cocked. "Momma?"

The little one snuggled into the nuzzle. "Momma!" she said, happily. (Summery coming, hopefully tonight)
