Pales had brought his daughter to the Durem Recreation Center because there was a small arts and crafts faire going on and it seemed a good way to get Kaveri out and about instead of cooped up. Besides the one-eyed man had barely gotten the chance to bond with his daughter since the incident that had disabled him for quite a while. Today he felt well enough to even carry her and go out into the world in order to find things for her to do. The afternoon sun hung in the air, a quiet observer to the world below it.
The small naga girl had quietly toyed at the fringes of her father's scarf while she hummed a small melody to herself during the travel there and when they had finally arrived she was given a choice as to which craft to partake in and had chosen finger painting. Pales had sat on the floor next to his daughter his own fingertips colored in a myriad of colors as he made a picture with Kaveri.
Kaveri made a small grin upon her lips as she reached up and smudged at Pales' cheek with green paint with her small fingertip.
"Hey now!" Pales chuckled as he pulled his face away, "On the paper sweetheart, not Da's face..."
The small nagaling's response was a small mischievous giggle.

The only reason Billy had gone out today was because the house felt too quiet now that his daughter had gone back to school. So, with Trent tucked securely against his side, he navigated his way through the small crowd of parents and young children.
"I'm gonna be honest with you, little man, this is probably not the best idea. But this is all there is. I'm not taking you to the beach again, not after last time," he grumbled under his breath, shifting the baby on his hip.
Trent just blinked at him, then turned his head to stare at the people passing by him. He got a fair number of odd looks, but neither he, nor his father, noticed. Billy was used to it, and Trent was too young to realize.
"Alright!" Billy said excitedly, making Trent jump, "Fingerpainting! Just the thing for you, mate. You got four hands; you'll be makin' masterpieces, won'tcha?"
Billy placed Trent down carefully, and the baby immediately used the table to pull himself into a standing position, reaching with wide eyes for the paint closest to him. Billy took a seat behind him, leaning forward in a relaxed way, but watching his boy with an obviously protective posture.

Kaveri returned to her painting and pretty much settled upon her tail which was coiled beneath herself for seating. She glanced over at the father and son pair that had happened to seat nearby and blinked a little. Huh that little boy looked interesting. Kaveri quietly returned to her painting with a bit of a hum to her voice. Should she try to talk to the guardian and his son or should she wait and see until her own guardian said it was okay or initiated contact?
Pales glanced up as Kaveri did toward the pair as well with a singular green eye before he gazed back down toward the picture his daughter was working on with a small smile, the one-eyed man had fallen back on observing his daughter as she worked, he wiped the paint off of his own fingers on a paper towel that had been provided. Of course there was a whole roll of paper towels on the table but Pales only needed one.
After a few moments of not saying anything to the other pair seemed to make the little Nagini squirm in her scales as she suddenly looked over and announced, "Hi!"

Trent froze with his hand in the paint, and stared at her, his strange, strange eyes widening impossibly. Then he slowly pulled his hand back, and gave a shy wave.
Billy smiled and looked to the other two, "You going to say "Hi", Trent?" The baby looked uncertainly from his father, to the girl, then shook his head, "Nn."
His father laughed, and pushed his hair out of his face, "Trent's a little shy," he looked to the other man curiously, "I'm William. You can call me Billy," he smiled warmly. Trent was now pressing his hands together, then pulling them apart, laughing at the way the paint stuck them together a little bit. He did pause to look at the girl again, wobbling a little where he stood.

Kaveri let a small giggle bubble out past her lips as she raised a hand with colorful fingertips and waved at the younger shy child with a small grin. "Hiiiii Trent~," she said using the name his guardian had said. After all why call him Trent if his name wasn't Trent? That'd just be silly, silly indeed.
Pales chuckled a bit and shook his head at his daughter's antics and then looked up at the other father with a small nod, "Pales, pleased to meet you." He put a hand on his daughter's head, "This is Kaveri," he introduced his daughter since she did not announce her own name yet. "You'll have to forgive her; she gets a tad bit excitable sometimes."
"Not!" Kaveri protested as she swatted at her guardian with a paint smudged hand with an indignant huff before she turned her attention back to Trent with a headtilt, "I don' bite," she coaxed gently.
The one-eyed man laughed and removed his hand before he could be swatted by the wet paint covered fingertips.

Billy watched the girl with an amused smile on his face, "That's ok, I understand. My own little girl takes excitement to a whole new level. She has somehow managed to make sweeping the floor a thrilling experience, once."
Trent seemed to be quickly warming up to the girl, mostly because he liked how her voice sounded. It was friendly, and generally a lot more gentle than the other voices he was used to. She reminded him of Elina, and that helped him to relax, and finally respond with an uncertain, "Hi."
Billy grinned happily, offering a hand for Trent to balance himself with, "Ah, this is great! He only just started talking recently. Only knows about four or five words." Hi being one of them. Da, Food, and No being the others.

Pales laughed at Billy's words and nodded a bit, "I can imagine," he replied with a small grin as he watched his daughter curiously, "little girls can certainly be a handful." Though that didn't mean little boys weren't either but there seemed to be a marked difference in the mischief Kaveri gets into verses the mischief that his oldest son got into when the mood struck him to get into mischief, or it was the same and Pales was jut selectively remembering each antic as it came.
She let out a small happy sound when he spoke at her. Her paint smudged hands clapped a bit to signal that she was quite pleased with the progress put forth thus far as she 'stood' and slithered her way a bit closer to the boy, "You have pretty hair," she complimented trying to find a further way into the odd boy's favor and befriend him and she really did mean it. She liked the dark color of it, it reminded her of her Da, De, and Brother Mel's hair, which were all dark colored indeed. The rest of the younger boy looked interesting as well though the pincers did seem to have an alarming appearance to them, for now she pretended they didn't exist.
The older man chuckled and nodded, "When I first got Kaveri she mostly just made the odd sound or two," and swore that she hissed more than a few times but that didn't seem worth mentioning, "it is a real thrill when they start to talk, up until they say things they shouldn't."
Like curse words or other things said in the heat of an intense tantrum.

Trent seemed pleased by the compliment, and smiled, but when he noticed her tail, he looked very alarmed. He pointed to them, eyes wide, "Nn!" he mumbled to her in incomprehensible baby talk, wanting to know where her legs had gone to. He didn't hesitate to think as he leant forward to try and touch her tail, making confused and silghtly upset noises. Had someone taken them? Chrissy took his favorite booties sometimes.
Billy looked thoughtful, "Trent sort of made noise when he first...arrived. But he mostly lives under water, so I usually didn't hear them. He just made lots of bubbles. When he started to get the hang of words, he'd try them out when he was swimming, but yeah. Didn't quite work." He smiled, watching the two and shaking his head a little, "Its ok, Trent."

Kaveri smiled, at first, when he seemed pleased and then tilted her head when he seemed alarmed. Her smile faded and then looked down, oh, right. He's younger and probably hadn't seen people without 'normal' legs. For a moment Kaveri felt a bit of self consciousness. Even Dee was a little unnerved by the sight of her 'tail leg', her hands pulled a bit at the dress she wore but the smile appeared as she spoke again, "its okay Trent," Kaveri assured him, "it is how I walk." she moved forward toward him again to show that she was perfectly fine. "I was made like this," she explained very much unaware of his thoughts and trying to put the whole situation in the simplest terms she could and even for her that seemed a complicated explanation.
Pales nodded a bit, "Like most babies, except for the underwater thing," he chuckled as he ruffled his own hair and watched the two children interact for a moment. He almost felt the need to comfort Kaveri until she seemed to 'get over' the momentary lapse of confidence and manage to make due.
Good girl.

Trent stared at her for a moment, but hesitantly accepted what she said, and pressed his fingers to her tail again with his face screwed up in a look of intense curiousity. He seemed to calm down after touching it the second time. He liked how it felt! It was soft, but hard. He expected it to be a little slimy (which he wouldn't have minded) but it wasn't.
Billy looked very pleased with how Trent was now reacting to Kaveri's 'strange' appendage. He was surprised that he himself hadn't been shocked. Ever since Trent was born, and he'd met other children from the same place as him, it took a lot to shock him. He frowned, thinking, "Say...was Kaveri a wand once?" he asked, looking to Pales, eyebrows raised slightly. It hadn't occured to him before now.
