Do you think the fashion world gets a bad rap? In movies such as The Devil Wears Prada and Confessions of a Shopaholic, though both my favorite movies, they potray the people in high end fashion as very mean and b*tchy. I understand that they can be a tad materialistic because, well that's what the job is. But do you belive this is an accurate potrayl or do you believe it is nicer then it is shown? heart heart

It really depends.
It is a very nasty, materialistic industry. It's extremely competitive, but it has to be. That's just the way it is.

I don't think people in the fashion industry are all snobby like that. People have to be professional to get a job that exclusive-ish... That's just my opinion, though...

I'd have to agree. I don't think that everyone is like that, and what's worse, the stereotype makes people going into the industry think it's okay to behave that way because that's how everyone else is depicted as behaving.
While it's highly competitive it doesn't have to effect you, but I think some people just play up to the crap.

i've been working the fashion industry! i wouldn't say everyone is evil--though i've met some people who are----but the ones who weren't evil and were very nice in person tried to get away with not paying me in the end..this happened twice..the first time i was freelance so i couldn't do anything about it..but the second time, i worked for this woman for 4 months and she just decided she was never giving me my final paycheck..so i am currently going through legal procedures to get it x.x ..in the bigger companies, everyone thinks they're better than everyone else... but in the smaller companies, which i've delt with more, everyone thinks they have to cheat you out of every last cent they can --- the people i worked with were generally nice,at least to my face--- its the bosses and owners that were double faced x.x ...its sad but i want to say, don't trust anyone in the entire industry, and never walk away without your money. don't believe some one if they say they'll mail your your check
