I also busted my 50mm 1.8 .. which I eventually replaced..
happy to have invested on a better and durable nifty fifty
If I broke any of my equipment I would cry. I'm still in collage, so I can't afford to replace anything.
crying the darn thing accidentally fell when I was shooting a major festival... and I was like
crying crying ... luckily my wife has a 50mm 1.8 II lens so I have to borrow her lens starting that point..
it took months until we decided to invest in new gear and thus I decided on getting a 50mm 1.4 USM ...
the EF 50mm 1.8 II is not really a reliable build quality... plastic and it has a tendency to break apart after long term use.. mine fell and the plastic atachments that move the AF fell apart... brought it to a service but the guys just told me its useless to glue those part back and suggested that its a nice paper weight..
