Continuation of an IM RP between Nathaniel ( Teh Zan ) and Jaden ( o0 Sephiros Immortal 0o )
Jaden was rather vexed. He'd been missing the constant presence of Nathaniel lately, and though, it was true, he did not usually have the other at his side 24/7, the tiny blond felt perhaps a mite clingy, desiring at least a hug or three from his boyfriend. He wasn't sure what it was, mayhap the weather had gotten him down. Whatever the case might be, Jaden was, for once, struggling through a bit of his studies where he knew that he should have been excelling.
Frustrated further, as his quest to find Nat had proved unfruitful thus far, he only had one other place to look for him, and that was in the lab. The other tended to devote a lot of time to his studies and possible research, and though Jaden was quite proud of the other, he missed him acutely at times. This..was most certainly one of those times, and so, the American youth beat out a tempo with his feet as he trotted his way down to the lab to hopefully snitch a little love from his favorite fellow student.
Nathaniel had spent the majority of his days seeking out formulas to create and contain potions that he could obtain and produce himself. And now, at last, he was working on it. Physical proof and evidence of his hard work and unending desires. He'd cooped himself up in the lab lately, and had neglected his precious boyfriend, but this mattered little at the time. His mind was preoccupied, and despite how he felt about the little blonde, he could not help but be more attracted to his chemicals for the moment. Frowning, he held up a nearly empty clear vial to his eye and looked at the transparent green solution inside of it. It wasn't as vivid as his eyes, but it was almost glowing. Goggles were over his eyes, and he continued looking critically at the solution before setting it down, jotting some notes in his journal, and then checking some others. It was a tedious process, but the British lad rather enjoyed every part of it. He could only hope that his dreams would come to fruition after enough work. How much longer must he wait?
Coming to the door, he carefully turned the knob, cautiously peering around it to see if the other was there. This was not his realm, this place of chemicals and compounds and vials. It was, however, that of Nathaniel's, and as such, Jaden did not take the caution that he likely should have. Noting that the other was there, he smiled brightly, and shutting the door behind him, he padded closer. Seeing that the other was working, he knew better than to tackle him as he wanted to. He knew that Nat was busy, and felt perhaps a little guilty for bothering...but...he'd missed him so very much, Nat oughtn't to mind for just a little while.
As soon as the other came through the door, Nat looked up in startled shock. His eyes were wide a moment before they settled on the American, realizing and recognizing him quickly. The familiarity set in and a soft smile played across his lips. "Jaden," said the Brit, practically purring out the name with dripping fondness highly unlike him. There was something about the other that made him happy, and thus, nothing wrong with him being so affectionate. He set his pen down and folded his arms, looking back at his chemicals before grinning broadly at his boyfriend again, "Do you need something, Jade? To come all the way to the lab... it must be something important. What's the matter?"
Just hearing that tone in the other's voice caused the tiny blond's heart to soar, grinning like an idiot, he pattered to wrap his arms about the other's waist. "I needed you!" He replied adamantly, biting his lip as though to stifle his glee at being so very near his beloved. "And yes, that is very important..." That just a whisper, hoping that Nat would agree with his priorities. It had just been too long...his British beau had been too enamoured of his work to spend time with Jaden, and so the odd-eyed youth had come to him.
Blinking in shock, he held himself frozen for a moment before wrapping arms firmly around the blonde American youth. Stroking the other's hair gently for a moment, he pondered the situation. He had two of his favorite things right at his fingertips. Could anything possibly be so perfect? Almost trembling, he looked at Jaden and tilted his head from one side to the other, guilty. "I am very sorry to have caused you any worry dearest Jade... also to trouble you into coming out here to me. I have not been trying to avoid you, but I seem to have hit a nerve with my experiments. Can you forgive me?"

Reaching up a slender-fingered hand, Jaden touched the other youth's cheek. "I can forgive you...I know how important this is to you, and no other apology is needed..." He continued with an impish smile, "Since you seem so pleased to see me." Confidence had returned since the other was not angry with him, boosting morale, as it were. Rather gleeful, he leaned into the British teen's sturdier frame, "And it isn't trouble...I'd like to come see you often if you didn't mind it. It seems a very short walk when there's a Nathaniel waiting for me on the other end..." With that statement, the odd-eyed youth flushed faintly. Such declarations of his adoration flustered him now and again.

Such declarations flustered both of them, it seemed, for as the American spoke, the British lad found himself flushing slightly and avoiding eye contact with his own boyfriend. The walk was far from short. It wasn't extremely long, but it wasn't some small thing either. Especially, since one can only assume where he'd been coming from. But little mattered and when Nathaniel could regain composure, he looked at the small blonde in his arms, observing ever so carefully how he leaned against him, doing no less than clinging to him. But he cared not, for if Jaden was happy, than that was all that mattered. The other was the world to him. Despite everything that had happened, Nat could still only truly trust the other.
He bit his lower lip, loathing what he had to say next, "Make no mistake Jade. I am beyond pleased to see you, really I am," and here he gave the other one of his small rare smiles, "however, my experiment here is not done and it must be. I must continue with it. I'm not sure how safe it is for you to be around... but it really shouldn't take too much longer."
He felt the guilt already eating away at him and he wondered how people stood these kinds of emotions. Being so openly concerned was nerve wracking for him, and he knew even less of how to handle an affectionate boyfriend. Combined, he thought it was turning into quite the mess.

Clasping hands in a gesture of nervous worry, Jaden shifted slightly, slowly arching a brow at his boyfriend. Here so soon and already the other was trying to get rid of him? It made him uncomfortable and sad too, but he didn't show a whit of it. It was Nathaniel he wanted to be happy, and he'd been rather selfish to interrupt the other in his oh so important work...but he'd missed Nat, and so, well...he wanted to stick around a little, even if it were just to be a silent observer, the proverbial fly on the wall.
"Nat..." It was careful, the words thought out only a tiny bit before they left his lips, "Can' I stay? I mean, just for a eensy bit...few more minutes even? I'll just watch quietly...or...or I could even help if you need me to, whatever it is!" Anything the other teen needed of him he'd do, if only he'd keep him around just a while. Jade wanted to be around the person his world centered around, and Nat had been gone for such a while.
He didn't mean to make Nathaniel feel bad, really he didn't! In fact, he was trying not to! If the other told him to leave he would...maybe...but surely it couldn't hurt to simply quietly observe. Jaden was, if nothing else, very good at being silent and near-invisible. He'd done it all his life.

There was a prolonged, albeit slightly awkward, pause between the end of Jaden's sentence and when Nathaniel began to speak again. He had to think it over very carefully in his head. Digesting and determining the problems that could arise and the best course of action. Of course, this particular formula was not simply deduced by a matter of fact, there were feelings involved. After all, though his experiments were important, he had to weigh in his boyfriend's feelings to the matter now as well. And the other looked at him so desperately.
How could Nathaniel continue to press the issue? If nothing else, the blonde had to stay now. There would be no getting rid of him. Though, when he realized this thought, he felt considerably better. Having Jaden around was a comfort, and then the other could see him at work. Be given proof of all the work he was always doing. That made him slightly self-conscious, but more driven to succeed. More confident if nothing else.
Not to mention, couldn't he share this part of his life with Jaden? The two were equal in value to him. Could they not intertwine?
And so at last, he sighed a little, lifted one of the vials, and held it out to the American. "Come here and hold this steady for me while I mix up the chemicals. Do you mind Jade?"

(( AIM log bit~))
Jaden smiled brightly, entire face lighting up when the other not only gave him unspoken permission to linger, but seemed to be putting him to work as well. Honestly he wanted to know more about what Nathaniel did here, wanted to know everything that could be gleaned informationwise about his boyfriend.
"Ok! I can do that...really, I don't mind at all!" Smiling broadly, he reached out careful hands...fragile, but long-fingered...pianist's hands...to take the vial from his boyfriend. Science was not at all his field of expertise, but there was really nothing that the tiny blond wasn't keen on tackling for the sake of simply knowing. And if it was something that Nat loved...well then, all the better!
"What are you making, by the way?"
The way his boyfriend's face lit up akin to a Christmas tree was startling. Could his acquiescence really have had such an affect on the blonde American? Apparently so, and a part of this worried him. Made him wonder if he could protect Jaden this way. Still, it made him happy, so very happy, to see the other this way. As his fragile hands took the vial, he watched carefully. The substance he was creating was absolutely new and very delicate. Volatile even. As he considered it, perhaps it wasn't the best of ideas to let Jaden take care of it. The other didn't have gear on or anything. But really... he'd studied this. Hadn't he? Done it a million times before! There was nothing to fear. It would be okay.
Biting his lower lip, he studied it a moment longer before turning back to his notes and checking them. They all seemed to be in order, predictions at the ready depending on the reaction and effect he wanted for the end result. It was all like a very serious, very precarious game that could end badly. Nathaniel, confident in himself, merely picked up another chemical and mixed it with another slowly, boiling the two of them, before eying the blue liquid. Once it gained a bit of thickness, he'd pour it into Jade's vial, which should turn it a purple sort of fuchsia that should be acidic enough to set plants aflame.
"A toxin, just to test the dangerous compounds. So do be careful with that Jade, okay?" Nat said off-offhandedly, stirring the substance. "I'm going to add this one in momentarily."
Jaden really hadn't the slightest inkling just how dangerous these sorts of things were. However, he would do his best in anything that Nat threw at him. The American wanted to excel, to make his boyfriend proud of him, proud enough to stay and never leave. Nathaniel had said such things before, that he'd always protect him and the like, but that was all a very unsure thing. He knew that, because he'd seen enough people leave in his short life to know that words didn't seal forever.
Watching the studious Nat intently as he checked and double-checked things, a fond, sweet little smile curved Jaden's lips upwards. The other was so very serious...it was almost adorable really...well, actually only Jade would likely think that it was adorable, but he didn't care. It was just that...he loved every aspect of Nathaniel. Yea. That was it.
"Ah! Sure thing!" He didn't know why the other was mixing poisons, but he supposed that scientists did that sort of thing. What with bubbling vials and all that lot. Wrinking his nose, he eyed the tube in his hand, fully intent on holding it perfectly steady.
The British lad took the spare moment to glance at Jaden again. Perfection. There was a sweet child-like innocence about the other that Nathaniel admired. It was this sort of innocence he wanted to protect. He was determined to do so, knowing that it was this person that had helped him so often. This person had done more for him than anyone else. This person knew every one of his secrets, and though that was not perhaps the best of things, Nathaniel didn't regret it. He had to care for him. He owed him, if nothing else. With a small smile, he turned back to his experiment, pleased for the shortest of moments that Jade could be a part of it. As he thought this, the liquid became slightly sticky and thick like a smoothie. Though of course, drinking it would not be recommended. Very little would be recommended with this sort of chemical. Anything sort of proper disposal or appropriated use would be frowned upon. In all actuality, even making it should've been against the rules. But it was a secret. He'd sort of simply 'found' the chemicals and begun to work with them before anyone could find him and protest.
Jaden certainly wasn't going to protest. He stood there looking eager to help while Nat took the measured liquid off the flame and held it gingerly in a set of tongs. He watched the bubbles flare up and pop, one by one. There was something in his heart that made it leap for a single moment. He was about to create his first toxic substance, and it was looking to be a success so far. Just a bit longer! But he had to contain himself. Patience and a steady hand were required. Taking a deep breath, and holding it without realizing it, he moved easily to pour some of the substance into Jaden's vial. That... was when everything went wrong. The Brit's face paled just as the catastrophe unfolded. In moments, his brilliant experiment had become his worst nightmare.
It was obvious from the second the liquids mixed and touched that something had gone wrong. Rather than fuchsia, it had turned green, and rather than fizzing gently, it was smoking and bubbling. As he opened his mouth, he knew it was too late. An explosion threw him back into the wall, crashing him into several glass vials, a desk, and a part of one of the lab sinks. He sank to the floor, clutching at his head and clinging to consciousness as smoke filled the room and fire alarms set off, sending rain down into the room.
"J-jade!" coughed the Brit, terrified for his boyfriend. What had happened to him?
He watched, eyes gleaming with interest, much like a puppy, fumbling and new to the world finds everything an adventure, exciting almost. To Jaden, this was like...finding a piece of Nat's world.
Not that he'd expected it to be quite so very dangerous. He'd been about to ask if it was supposed to do that, when it began to bubble, but looking up to pose the question he caught the look on Nat's face, and flinched on instinct. Oh gods... Panic welled up...the wave of it mounted...
And then the world shattered. The tiny youth was hurled backwards much as Nathaniel had been, crashing into gods knew what on his way...things crashing about him as he then slammed into a set of cabinets, fighting for breath as tears and blood streamed down his face. "N-Nat..." It was just a whisper, fighting to get air back into his lungs as it had been rather completely knocked out of him. Why did everything hurt? Why couldn't he see properly...? Were his hands red? It didn't quite all connect, though the worst points of agony, burning bright-hot...were his face and hands...and there were glass shards embedded in both, though he couldn't see them.
"Nat...?" It was perhaps a little louder this time. The other had to be all right, he was all right? Please be ok...
Fortunately, and he cursed himself for not having taken these precautions with his boyfriend, he was wearing goggles and some other gear. But that hadn't completely protected him. There were shards of glass in his fingers, burn marks on his hands and face. Nothing life threatening. Nothing so extremely serious that he would be detrimentally inhibited for the rest of his life. He was /lucky/. Flinging the goggles off, he tried desperately to make his eyes -work-. Coughing up smoke that was very slowly dissipating, he scrambled forward, but it was no good. He scraped against shattered glass and tile, trying to blink against the pain. He probably had a concussion of some sort, for when he touched his hand to his head, it came back sticky with blood. The sight made him dizzy. His crimson blood was dripping off his fingers and matting his hair. Once again, his voice called out. It croaked at first and then came out stronger, panicked, "Jade!? Jaden!"
It was then, when the water had finally gotten rid of the worst of the smoke, that Nathaniel saw glimpses of his boyfriend through the clearing.
A wave of horror and wretched sickness swept through him and he bit down the urge to throw up right then and there. A mess. His boyfriend was a mess, and that was putting it kindly. Painfully, he began to cry. That's right. The hardened and strong, conceited Nahtnaiel began to -cry-. Tears welled up in his eyes as he looked at the other. Fingers reached out to the other, wanting to fix it. Wanting to take it all back. His voice choked and just before he touched the other, someone grabbed his wrist. Fingers wrapped tightly around him and dragged him up, tossing him none-too-kindly from the room into the hallway. Those hands went after Jaden as well, and from the outside, Nathaniel saw with mounting horror exactly who it was: Ardanay Veilwood. Shame filled him, and he curled up against the wall, feeling sicker with each passing moment.
"Mr. Dehann, can you move?" the professor asked softly, voice hard as he kneeled down to face the youth, arms out and ready to carry him. There was no way he could walk, even function, let alone move. He'd need medical attention absolutely immediately, but maybe there was something Ardanay could do right at that moment. Still, what had happened? He knew he'd get the story eventually, but for right now... this was necessary. Jaden was in worse condition than the Science student. There was a slight scowl across his features. Why did things like this have to happen?
"Nat...? Y-you...ok...?" He blinked blearily, trying to focus on the voice and not the person, at least when he did that it didn't hurt so much, though there was still a strange ringing about his ears. He could hear, but...he couldn't go to the other...it all hurt and he was...dizzy, things were still fuzzy and he couldn't blink it away like he could after a nap, when the world was like a freeze-frame...taken and blurred repeatedly. This was different...and he ached with every heartbeat. What had happened? What on earth had gone wrong? Really...all he wanted to do was close his eyes...stop trying so hard...but he had to find out if Nat...
And then someone else was talking to him, and his head swiveled, "I...move?" That sounded like a very bad idea, really, and he reached one trembling, bleeding hand out...but stopped before putting it on the ground, knowing somehow that would be unwise, and probably hurt more. "N-no..." It was vaguely apologetic. "C-can't see...can't see Nat..." He whispered, panic laced in the words. What was going on? Wouldn't someone tell him please?
