”Oh...” Well now Marquis felt stupid. He wasn’t sure why he did, but he did, and his hand crept to his forehead to rub at it for a moment. Of course Mattie hadn’t got them, he’d thought he was dead. Right. Stupid Marquis. Perhaps the lack of eating really was getting to him. He didn’t feel hungry anymore, even though he could only remember having some coffee yesterday. Maybe he should have another... but it made his fingers shaky, so maybe not. Gods, he was rambling even in his thoughts now!
Oh, right, Mattie was talking. ”Oh... ages go.” It was said almost flippantly. ”Right when it started, really... there wasn’t much else I could do, really, not after the shop was blown up...”
He didn’t feel like divulging that he’d been the one to start it.

Mattie ‘oh’d lightly, not sure what to do. He was starting to feel light headed from standing up, though. That must’ve been why Marquis looked so sickly. Well, that and the light. Fluorescents never made anyone look tanner. Yeah. Mattie slowly sat himself back down. He didn’t really want to think about the consequences of being here, he was just happy he was. He stuffed the bloodied handkerchief in his pocket. “And you’ve been alright?”
Of course he was worried. He knew what Marquis was up against. He was up against Bacio. And Vanessa. And himself. Well, not the last part anymore. “Whoever’s leading you doing a good job?”
Mattie’d sworn an unbreakable oath the minute he signed the contract to go kill the leader. But maybe once he had killed the leader, he could switch sides.

Marquis was wondering how difficult it would be to get Mattie some extra blankets down here. The bed shoved in the corner wasn’t looking comfortable by any definition, and if he did it quietly, or made some excuse about Mattie being willing to talk in exchange... it was possible. He was the leader, after all, and that gave him the privilege of not being questioned all that often. Yeah. He could manage that.
”Well m’still here, so it can’t be too bad.” The blonde replied without thinking about it, then mentally slapped himself for it. While that reply might have amused anyone else, it might just get Mattie worried again. The boy was strange like that. Marquis quickly pounced on the second question. ”Oh, yeah, s’best as can be done in the situation. They’re a bit ov’a nutter, but it’s good times.”
It was so strange to talk about himself in the third person, but he just didn’t know if Mattie could be trusted. Or, well, he knew he could be but... what if the other man let something slip by accident? Marquis had worked too hard to keep safe to let his guard down now. ”You okay, mate? Yer lookin’ a little wobbly... ya want some water or somethin’?”
