Synesthesia is something that not many people have. It can be very interesting, but whether it is seen as good or bad isn't really certain.
Personally, I think it makes me feel quite special, but it makes me feel quite alone at times. I don't know anyone in real life who has synesthesia, and I have only seen a few here on Gaia. The fact that there's only 2 members in the guild right now proves that. If I talk about it, people either say I must be making it up or they just give me weird looks and there's an awkward silence.
It's not really a bother - it's just there. The fact that I can't get all of my thoughts about it out of my system is just annoying.
What does everyone else think about it? Is it a blessing, a curse or just some random thing that you don't have strong feelings about? I'd love to hear what you have to say!

In a way, it's a blessing. I don't *use* it as a mnemonic device. It automatically works as one for me. My reading has been formally tested and I read twice as fast as some kids in my classes, three times as fast as most of the kids in the non-advanced classes. This is because of my graphemes. Often if I fear I'm going to forget someone's name, or if I have to remember something, I will put a few colored stripes on my thumb with washable marker to spell out the name or a hint. My letter graphemes are a blessing. When it comes to numbers, it's a curse! I literally can not do math. While I can recite the alphabet forward and backwards quickly, I can't count up to fifty without misstepping somewhere. The colors don't blend right! 2=green 4=yellow So, to me, 2+4 ought to be either green or yellow, but it's orange. 6=orange 2x4 should blend together and make a weird mucky yellow, but instead it's 8! 8=purple!!!! What the hay?? It's so confusing to me.
Also, synesthetes have a tendency to have no internal compass. I can't ever give directions. It's such epic fail in that regard...
When it comes down to feeling lonely or alienated though, I've never had that. It doesn't set me apart or upset me enough to wish I had someone to talk to. Mainly it just helps me read fast, remember people's names, and enjoy music

Synesthesia is so confusing to me! I don't have it, so it doesn't really make sense.. like.. do you see the words like you literally SEE them colored like that? Or imagine them? And can you stop seeing it colored like that?
Or if a word is actually colored pink can you tell that it is? Does it combine with the colors that you see? Is it hard to tell a color?
How about if you see a foreign alphabet that you don't know? Like Chinese?
It's so confusing DD;
I have something that I don't think is synesthesia, but it might be something sorta related. Whenever I hear a word, I imagine it being spelled out in my mind. Also, some words remind me of colors, like my sister's name Aline is a nice pumpkin orange color, and my brother Philip is a dirt-foresty green. but I don't literally see the color, it just comes up in my mind. Also, if I think of something like.. peanut butter, or toast, I'll start to either (or both) smell of taste the object. Like, not imagining it but I REALLY taste and/or smell it. Not SUPER strong, but not super faint either. Could this be related to Synesthesia?
Also, how do you pronounce it? sweatdrop Everytime I try to say it I sound like if I have a lisp. XD
