Grace was excited, well more nervous, so anxious to meet her new family. She really hadn’t thought that she’d be adopted, but for some reason she stuck out like a sore thumb. Normally you’d think that someone like her would be the social butterfly, but she really didn’t do crowds, and germs. Germs were the really bad, but she wasn’t germaphobic, but she was considered a ‘neat freak’. All she did because of her behavior was wash her hands a lot more than normal people, tried not to shake hand or give hugs (which she tried to put up with for her new family), or use public bathrooms. No, she’d never ever use a public bathroom, she could only imagine what would happen in there.
Looking around her new house, she found it to be quite beautiful. It wasn’t a super rich house, no it was a normal, middle class home, that gave the aurora of family. It was something she hadn’t felt in a while, and it was quite comforting. Walking to the couch, Grace sat down very carefully, as if the house was one made for a doll, so she wouldn’t break anything. Her pale lips curved into a smile, and she took her hand to swipe away the bangs of her curly, copper hair.
The two adults were seemingly just as happy as she was, maybe even more. They, in sequence with her, smiled back. They seemed like normal people, a woman with brown hair, that you could tell had been dyed (though it was beautiful), and a guy with black hair. All it would take was a blonde and black hair, plus her red, to have the full spectrum of colors. Her blue bulbs took in her surroundings once again before the phone rang, and her new father murmured something. She wanted to learn their names, and she knew her last name was Barnheart; her new mom’s name was Susan and her father’s name, she kind of forgot.
Out of nowhere the quiet house was filled by a single voice, her father’s. “I have to go pick up the other kid.” He said to the two and was out of the door in minutes.
Looking at the woman with a confused face, she nodded. So she had a sibling as well? Her stomach added some more butterflies and Grace did her best not to show it.
“Well how about we start on some dinner for the boys,” Susan said, “I bet the will be hungry on the way back.”
So she had a brother? A brother was something she always wanted and an older brother too, but she’d have to wait and see how old he was when her dad and them returned. It was weird giving possessive names to the new people, and it would have to be something she would have to get used to, but having a brother, you could just call him by his first name. Right?
Setting down her purse, she pulled up her sleeves on her tan long sleeved shirt, other than that she had on blue jeans and flip-flops, so they were good. Walking into the kitchen she put her hair up as best as she could (she had two or three strands fall to where her bang should be) and looked at the woman. Grace could cook and was willing to see how well Susan did. Walking over to the sink she washed her hands with soap and went back to the woman. “What do you want me to do?” She said with a drawly accent.

Space. A place many called home now, and would forever. It was a hundred years or so back when humans managed to destroy Earth. No, it was still there, but oxygen was depleted, chances of getting cancer went up ninety-seven percent, all the oceans and most of the sky was polluted, there were no trees left, and all of the animals who didn’t mutate died. It was a sad site, people having to leave Earth in spaceships, one by one, because of what they did. What was even worse, was not all of Earth could be put into the few bases built in space at that time, so all the rich people and some lucky were taken there. The rest probably died, but that was about a hundred years ago. Now people were able to access other planets and live on them, but with new and dangerous extremes, not to mention there was other life in the galaxy, but scientists beforehand, didn’t have the ability to see them. Some were kind, but some were predators. Humans and these different creatures now live together, whether in peace or at war.
Rebels. After time passed, the humans returned to the constitutional monarchy. Many agreed, few opposed. Those that opposed created their own bases to be put under their rules, and made themselves known as outcasts. They did what they could do to destroy the government, whether it be stealing, blackmailing, taking over bases, or even killing. These rebels came to be known as pirates. They got their name from the way that they raided; many remembered the old tales of the tyrants of the seas. After so much stress the first king died leaving his son in power; he was only in his twenties. By his forties, and three kids later, he decided it was enough, and did what he could to destroy the rebels.
Walking down a long and semi-crowded corridor, Xaed watched her workers prepare. That was right, they were going to strike again. Who was she? Xaed was a commanding officer of the pirates, one of the seven that controlled the entire group of about five thousand people. Today was the day that she personally was planning the assault, and she had crafted an amazing idea, with the help of Dron, her assistant. Dron was a robot, sort of, lets just say he was a science experiment with both human and robot parts. He looked like a desktop computer, but maybe half the size, he could ‘hover’ (something that she had been corrected on many of times), he was able to speak with a monotone voice, and he had emotions that showed up on the screen as text. Xaed had Dron since he was created, because the scientist wanted to trash him, but she saved him. They had been together since she was seven, she was now twenty-five.
As Xaed entered an auditorium room, with lots of chairs, and at the bottom seven throne-like seats, she made her way to seat. She sat in the third highest chair (the chairs, when sat in, raised to the level of ones power) . Brushing her toxic green hair off her shoulder, she looked at the time, only ten more minutes before the conference started. Sitting down, and being raised up she looked at the people who were there, some of which were new faces. Her black body suit matched with her silver eyes and tan skin. Yes, colors that were natural had changed over time.

Darin, after his comment, made no notion to Natesa. He had more important things to do, as it was his job to control timing and make sure everything was ready and stable. If you let some of these people in charge, they would forget about the show; that wasn’t acceptable on his terms. Darin was quite strict but logical in his ways, you didn’t work, you didn’t eat.
Alice looked at the blank stage once more, noting to herself how well the circus used lighting. It probably was crucial to the act that came on. Though how much did they spent in pounds to buy all the equipment needed for such a tedious task? That didn’t matter at the moment, because someone else was coming on.
Watching, still enthused (you’d think she was a child), she followed the cloaked person with her eyes. What would he or she do? It was revealed, again, within a matter of seconds. He was a sword swallower, something that always freaked her out. She wondered, after time, what it did to your insides, and how much pain did it cause. But they always looked so calm, sometimes peaceful when they did acts such as this, that it made a question of ‘did it even hurt’? Someone like her would probably never know, because magicians don’t tell their secret.
Gulping when the guy put the first thing in his mouth, she watched as much as she could without covering her eyes, for the fear of that guy ripping his insides out. Others oohed and awed at what he did, and after a few times of him doing it, Alice was finally able to watch it without flinching. She noticed that he seemed to find this fun, that was good. Clapping with the rest of the audience, she watched the guy leave, who she felt was kind of cute.
_Time Skip_
Act after act, Alice continued to be amazed at what the people could do. The contortionist, the clowns, and everything else had a perfect routine, and the ringmaster had a way of disappearing and appearing from different places. Many people had been chosen to volunteer for things, except her, which she wanted to do so badly. Still she ceased to be amazed.
“For our final act, we have Viper the snake charmer.” Darin told the audience for the last time, as he came from the trapeze from above.
Viper walked onto the full-lit stage with a smile on her face. The snakes had been let go, unbeknownst to the audience. Her lips gave way to a smile and then she heard some people screaming. Her cue. Lifting her hand up, two rather large snakes slithered their way towards her, one of the two snapping aggressively. In this area, they were known for being quite deadly, and not many had access to antidotes.
Making eye contact with the two snakes that were close together, she started to move, in a rhythmic way. The snakes followed her with their bodies, swaying like she did. Once more she let out her hand and one, the less aggressive one, came towards her, crawling onto her. After doing her dance once more, the second came, and then she let the snakes act out the rest. When her part was played, she did a simple bow, like they did in her home country, China, then left the stage.
Walking into the back, the girl met up with others, only congratulating a few, which were Natesa, Orrick, the ringmaster, and a few others. After that she let her pets down on the ground and headed for her wagon, she was going to get away from the people, as she didn’t want her snake-like qualities revealed.

The trees were thick and there was hardly and space for anything to get through. Thorned plants covered most of the thickets that lined the extremely narrow paths. No creature should be able to manage to get through here, especially a humanoid. Vera tried to avoid all the plants that she could since she already had a collection of scratches and tears in her clothes. How long had she been here? It felt like forever, a major reason was because it was getting dark, she entered the woods that morning. What a stupid idea of an adventure. She had thought of going back just to end it, but after doing that once, she decided not to, she didn’t want to get lost anymore than she already was.
Stopping because her blonde hair got tangled in a branch with twigs, she gave a sigh and started to do this. She couldn’t tell how horrible her luck was, and it was getting worse. Feeling sprinkles of rain, she gave a growl of rage, “WHY ME?!?” Vera yelled to the opaque path, not even hearing an echo. This sucked. Continuing on she got more cuts on her white skin, but after a half hour, she made it to a larger opening. There was finally leg room.
Falling to the forest floor she grabbed her arms and shivered, this rain was cold and she didn’t know where she was. She wanted to claim an adventure, but her house wasn’t a home and she refused to think of it anymore. Rubbing herself trying to warm up, she smiled. She hadn’t heard a noise in a while so the ones she did hear were a comfort to her.
A sudden thought hit her. It wasn’t animal noises she was hearing, it was some sort of music. Standing up again, she looked at herself which was covered in red cuts on her ivory skin, she’d have to deal with those later. Pushing her soaking hair out of the way of her blue eyes, she put it up, and made way towards that noise, that heaven sent.
It continued on for about ten minutes, but she had finally made it to the edge of the forest and saw a gypsy band. It would be very controversial to herself if she went to them to ask for help. She had been taught that- screw what she had been taught. Slightly limping out of the forest, noticing there was no more rain coming down. Vera stood where she was and looked at the band, who seemed to be enjoying themselves. Would they really allow her to take some company? They should at least be able to give her directions. Sighing she walked into the group, which got her a lot of looks and eyes gathered to see her. Trying to calm down, she noticed people coming towards her, she’d at least wait to see what they had to say.

Naomi gave a sigh. Oh how she hated loosing bets. Much to her dismay, she was now forced to play Evolution// with her brothers. She hated videogames! It wasn’t like her brothers would stick around to help her or anything; they just wanted the entertainment of watching her play. Hopefully they would not make her play forever, but because she was an honest person, she would play like she promised. Waiting for her brother to finish setting up the computer for her- herself being technologically inefficient- the black haired beauty waited and wondered what she’d be. Her fingers played with the pages of the manual, she was skipping through most of it to find the races and classes. That was it! Her brothers loved to play necromancers and rangers and they hoarded their s**t all the time. She’d be a thief so she could steal it all from them. Revenge is a dish best served cold. With a smile on her pale pink lips she got up and took the headgear from her brother and placed it over her purple eyes (her favorite contacts) and proceeded to log in. It took her to a character creation page where she quickly chose thief, but then it was the choice of race. Looking at each of the bases for all the races, because they were all somewhat based off of yourself and chose elf. Her character was six feet tall with black hair, olive skin and white eyes. Her ears looked like knives and her lips were delicate. This was the total opposite of her normal self, she was beautiful. With the opportunity due to the package her brothers bought, she was able to give herself a single tattoo, which she placed on her right hip. The tattoo was an all-black, tribal design and she had them send her brother a bill for the bellybutton ring. When character creation ended she looked around to see others in a small town. They were partnering up and talking. Now she was baffled, what would she do?

Not once was there an utterance of a word. Sheol merely focused on her duty, almost predatorily, however when you are dealing with open wounds and the sound of children crying and a person, most likely a parent that was the only way she could concentrate. Flowery words started to seep out of her mouth sounding much like a lullaby, hushing not only the children but the grotesque scene in front of the kneeling girl who was careful not to let her silky, white hair get close to the crimson liquid. Slowly, like an eraser removing pencil, the wounds on the woman was departing from her body like they were never there. It was magic, literally so. Sheol was born with that rare gift but it outcasted her due to the thought of Orc magic. It didn’t bother her though, not like it used to. Instead Sheol merely wanted to help since she loved nature at it not only healed everything within the framework but also created a cycle of prospering. Somehow, someway if she could provide that kind of link to the humanoids that walked this planet, her goal would be complete.
Watching with critical, blue eyes she noted in her head the functions of the restored woman. It wasn’t surprising when she grabbed the one of the three children and stood in front of the others. It was her time to go. Feeling something small race through her clothing and onto her shoulder she noticed her friend, a black squirrel, Eemi making hissing-esque noises towards the family but received a small pat on her head. “There, there.” She cooed to the rodent and it stopped and just as she turned away she smiled to the family letting her peach lips draw attention. “To help ourselves is to help others. It heals the soul.” There had been a lot more bandit attacks than normal and it was a concern as far as she thought. She would have to think on that subject and to do so she knew where to go.
Walking through the Woods of Time she prepared her mind and body for meditation at Loirtkal’s temple. She had been coming here for years after she had ventured out further than her parents had expected and ended up lost there. Loirtkal was kind to her and right there and then she had felt some connection to him that she could not explain. Day after day Sheol constantly ventured into the forest just to be with the dragon, who seemed to not only care but taught her things about her magic. But as she got older and others had become more aware of her powers there was a strict request of her not visiting as often which she had accepted. It had been a while since she had seen what she considered her Patron dragon and was thoroughly excited.
Upon entering the temple dedicated to the massive reptile she felt something out of place. Something was not right and there was a lack of activity in the temple. At a more steady pace she scanned the area no one and for some reason she couldn’t see Loirtkal. Going into the sunning room, she saw it. A statue. Sheol stood there not knowing what to do and a look of panic crossed her face as Eemi tried to calm her down by grabbing at her longer hair that was wrapped in cloth, something that generally had worked from when she first found the squirrel. Walking forward she acted in a calm fashion and touched the perfect representation of Loirtkal. In her denial of anything happening to him, she felt something along the lines of a surge of electricity through her body. The normally soft-spoken girl let out a gasp of air from the pain that was emanating in her body. It felt like skin was moving and the center was her birthmark on her back. At this point Eemi was running circles around Sheol trying to figure out something but all she ended up doing was licking her hands that felt like they were plastered to the floor. It was harder to breathe and shortly after everything became hazy and then there was nothingness.
She woke up to the sound of screaming and the cursing using the word reprobate and sinner. Getting up and doing so in a dizzy manner, she looked at the dragon one more time and then to the monks as Sheol tried to clear her mind. They blame you, run, a familiar voice said inside her head. And without any further ado, she flew out of there at the fastest pace she could muster.
Sheol noticed that she was going faster than she would normally ever go, and didn’t know what to think of it, but she would have to meditate to take all things into consideration later. What felt like moment later she tripped over something. Landing on her hands she looked behind her. Apparently it was a group of people who was having some sort of conversation and the guy on the ground was her victim. “I apologize.” She stated as her heart raced and Eemi jumped on the guy to get to her shoulder. None of the monks had followed her and she didn’t think they would. They would probably go into prayer and meditation to see if that would fix the problem. After taking a quick breather she noticed blood in the little pool of water in a newly found enclave. Her compulsion was to help but she just stared. She tended to freak people out by doing so, but that was the only way she could contemplate.

The galaxy, it was the new terrain and humans on Earth quickly redelivered the idea of Manifest Destiny. It wasn’t longer that they discovered what many had been saying for hundreds of years, that there were other life forms out there, and to their disbelief some of them were stronger, smarter, or both. The new cycle of evolution came from the need not to be wiped out from existence. This evolution came from the usage of drugs. However, this were no ordinary drug, its name was Up-Turn, Up for short. A plant from a captive planet turned into liquid form gave us the ability to genetically mutate all the genes within the human genome. Alas, humans were made in a specific way and change is hard, especially when it is sudden and your body tries to fight it. Most of the human race was wiped out and other, peaceful creatures came to inhabit Earth as well. This is where the creation of planetary trade routes came into play and as a result space pirates.
Sea green cascading hair was seen as a woman with a body that looked like icicle, solid, icy white that looked frosted, traveled in a business trot down the corridors of the space ship. Her clothes were opposite of her appearance. Her halter top was black and over it she wore a sleeveless, thigh-length jacket that was royal purple with some buttons that too were black. Her black pants were ripped and torn and was so revealing that a nun would cry, paired with that she had black boots with royal purple skulls, black hoop earrings, and a black collar with a purple skull and crossbones. That collar signified that she obeyed one person and one person only, the captain of the ship and if you were not her, you would hate to see her mad. Lzaski, pronounced selkie, was a Mytarmer from the planet Volentin. She had banded with the pirate ship she was on now after her exile from the planet due to her rebellious and violent nature, something not known from her kind.
Stepping into a crowd that was opening up for her, she walked towards the captain. “Good news, there is a ship two thousand miles away and within range. We should be able to close in on them in seven minutes and thirty-two seconds.” She said in a stoic voice.

Humans. They were creatures that were able to be summed up in one word, instinctual. No matter how much they tried to defer from it, it was still present, so present that instincts could not lay dominant within themselves. Monks, they were such a joke. People always had praised others who devoted their life to a higher power. If everyone could see what happened behind the scenes with those said persons, they would be disgusted. No matter where you looked, purity lacked in mortals. But that wasn’t always a bad thing. You see not everything living in the world was human and some of the things that were not human benefited from sin, for example, demons. The more sin that was present the longer demons were able to live. Wars, egoists, kings and queens, and so much more had given life to so many demons that is was hard to count, and at this point it seemed like all demons would be immortal, something that many demons craved. Many but not most. Humans also had an adjective that threw them under the bus, fragile. No matter how much you tried to nurture them, humans always got sick, always died. Most of the creatures alive had double the lifespan of a human.
Falling in love with a human was one of the worst things a demon could do. Over two hundred years ago, Sydney did. The woman was so beautiful, kind, and enchanting, almost if she was an angel of sorts. For over thirty years, the two, man and wife enjoyed as close as a normal life they could have before the passing of Merissa. Sydney was so devastated that the demon, more specifically the incubus/succubus stopped going into the male form for a hundred and twenty years. After the realization that whether Sydney was a he or she didn’t bring his beloved back, she decided that moving away from the memories would be better. Though no matter where Sydney went, she felt that there was always something missing. But not much was worse than a jaded demoness.
It was just recently that she picked up a travel guide that informed her about a small village by the name of Tylvania. It stated that is was a smaller, quaint village, and something else she currently craved, off the beaten path. Packing up all her stuff that day, which really was two suitcases of random s**t, bought a house and got on a ferry and head to there. It was a decision that was in the moment but it gave Sydney a chance to look forward to a new beginning, which she hadn’t had in about fifty years and people were starting to recognize that.
---
First off, the boat was disgusting and some of the people on board needed to learn what the ******** hygiene was. It was so bad that Sydney refused to go down into the cabins and hull of the ship for the two day trip. Then again, she was an overdramatic woman who could pretend that she had a lot of class. Flipping through the travel guide book she was doing her best that she could to research this new place she was moving to. Something she knew she should have done beforehand. It felt like only a few minutes had passed after she started reading that the boat came to a stop and over a loudspeaker system the captain started to talk. “We have reached the port of Enis. We thank you all for traveling with us. We are docking for twenty minutes before we leave for Port Wailwood.”
Gathering her things, Sydney was one step closer to reaching her goal of starting a new life. Hopefully, when she got into town, there would be some place that she could get a drink and rest a bit. Moving was harder than it looked.
---
Moving was harder than it looked! Not only did Sydney have to get directions to get to this town because the path in this book was blocked, but she ended up dropping one of her suitcases, that was luckily filled with her clothes and not antiques, in a mud puddle, which the water seeped through, and her heels, which why she wore heels walking was unbeknownst to her, broke and she had to put on flip flops. Finally, finally she was at this darned town and she really needed a drink. Flipping through the Travel Guide, she went to the page with the town map and pointed to the spot she needed. “Ah-ha, the bar is that way.” The succubus said in a way that she showed she was proud of herself. After a little ways of walking she pushed open a door with a suitcase in each hand.
“Please, please, someone tell me you serve liquor at this time.”
