Hey guys. It's me again. My husband and I were talking one day and he told me that he has a strange type of empathy. Whenever we are watching tv or a movie and someone gets stabbed or hurt in any form he can feel it. He knows that the actors aren't really hurt (we are actors too so we know how it's done) but he feels it. The only thing is he has to see it happen. Do any of you know the technical term for it or do any of you have the same ability? If so how do you controll it? I want to help him so that he can enjoy watching House with me without feeling all the cuts and stuff. lol Thanks for all your help guys. You all rock.

Well I am the same way. See if he can feel it about cartoons too because I can. Its strange but true. I don't know what it is but I have it too. Like can he feel sorry for them? Like s/he was only doing... and now s/he's in the hospital or the ground?

He doesn't feel it if it's a cartoon. He doesn't feel sorry for them. He actually feals the pain as if it were happening to him.

I kind of have that, I think. Like, I was watching this movie (real actors) and a guy got eaten by a giant mole (disturbing, yes), it didn't actually show him getting eaten, just him being cornered and the mole coming after him, and my heartbeat quickened just like his and I felt like it was coming after me. I guess I don't have what your husband has because I just feel the emotions of characters, not their actual pain, though. It happens in books for me, too.

wow, this is interesting. i am an empath as well, and -believe it or not- also feel the pain of people that or around me. Not on tv, my mind has seperated that. If its a reality show, then yes.
I have this connection as well. I have been told that meditation is good. However, I dont meditate. I turn on music really loud and drift without meaning to.
A reccent tip for empathic abilities was to wash your hands with salt water-especially sea salt.
Hope that helps.
