James sat up and sifted back to his human form. He smiled and stood up. "Very well M'lady. Do you wish me to make you something to eat?" He asked tapping his spatula tag. He walked opver to her and looked down at her. He knew something was diffrent about her and he knew that she was hading something.

Happiness is only present... Her stomach grumbled. "No, I want Daddy!!" Her face drew into a pout. Standing, she turned away and began running for the door. Damn, something was telling her he could tell... ...where sadness is to contrast.

Happiness is only present... Lower lip pushing itself out more, she brushed past him, keeping her head facing away from James as she drew her pout into a worried frown. As she gnawed her lip anxiously, she missed her first step on the stairs and fell, knocked her wind out of her as she tumbled down the grand sweeping staircase to finally stop in a stunned, aching sprawl at the bottom. She didn't have the strength to curse- and if she could, wouldn't have had the restraint not to. A more pronounced throbbing made itself known in her ankle- but it didn't feel broken, just badly sprained. Thank goodness for that. Humiliating tears leaked out of her eyes, but years of practice kept her from stopping them. Forehead against the cool, polished floor, her tears splashed onto the marble surface, and her mind used its maddening habit of formulating a question to ask Daddy- as she had been forgetful enough to not have made one already. Actually, it was just her before dinner checkup on him, but that didn't matter. She always did it- and found a question, too. But she couldn't use her usual store of questions, not now that she could ask James... ...where sadness is to contrast.

"LADY ASA!!" James gasped and leeped down the stairs and landed at her side. Inside he was bashing him self for not watching her more carfully. He gently scooped her up and held her close. "Are you hurt..?" He asked looking over her body. He gnetly craddled her and kissed the top of her head. He would kill him self before letting anything happen to her. He was brought here to protect her and keep her safe and yet he couldn't react quick enough to cautch her.

Happiness is only present... Her lower lip was sticking out again. Touching her ankle, she winced and said "Ouch" through the tears now streaming down her face. She really did hate crying... The kiss to her forehead was unexpected- even Daddy didn't do that, even to her injuries. He was a hugs only person. Pushing herself achingly to a sitting position, she tested her ankle. No snaps, though a fracture could be there. God, it hurt like hell. She probably shouldn't stand. ...where sadness is to contrast.

"Shh... It's ok... You need to be still Miss Asa..." He said holding her in his arms. He looked down at her ankle and gently put a hand on it. A small layer of ice formed around her ankle. "Be still Miss Asa..." He said softly and her ankle began to heal as the ice melted around it.

Happiness is only present... She had dragged her hand away when the ice formed around her ankle, but obeyed his command to be still. It was so cold... Tears streaking her face still, she began struggling in his grasp to sit up, shivering at the cold that wrapped her ankle still. It was wet now, as it melted off, healing her ankle. It was so odd to be healed in this way... ...where sadness is to contrast.

"I'm sorry Miss Asa... But it's the best way to keep the swelling down and heal it at the same time..." James said softly and kissed her head gently. He helped her sit up But held her in his arms protectively. "There... All better..." He said helping her stand up. "Now... Shall we go talk with your father?"

Happiness is only present... Should they go see her father? Not while she was dependent they wouldn't. Eyes scanning the wood paneled wall, she found the board to her right that had three knots in a vertical line on it, then stretched to push it in. Sliding it aside, she wriggled all the way out of James's grasp and snaked her hand inside, feeling for the stash of sticks she had put in here years ago. Her hands brushed cobwebs, but she gave no sign of it, unsure of how she would have acted with them at age five. Finally, her hand closed around a rope- the one she had used to tie them together. Pulling it, she removed the sticks and replaced the board. Scooting back to lean on James, she inspected her sticks. Hum...probably the ginormous one that was now the perfect size. Unbundling it, she let the tie fall and pulled the stick from its place. Using it to support her, she beamed up at James, height difference inconsequential. "Yeah, let's go see daddy." ...where sadness is to contrast.

James cocked his head and watched her search. When she pulled out the sticks he cocked his head the other way and watched quietly. He slowly stood up and helped her up aswell. "Very well Miss Asa." He said walking with her. He lead her down the hall towards the Master's study.

Happiness is only present... Sing-songing as she entered to study, she called out, "Daaaaaddy, I was wondering if-" She broke off at the sight of him lolling in his chair. Whispering now, she said to James, "Oh, he's asleep. Should we wake him up? 'Cause I really wanna try cooking." Whoops, she had told him. Not that it mattered. Five-year-olds could never keep secrets, anyway. ...where sadness is to contrast.

James slwoly walked into the room and looked at her father. "Miss Asa... Stay there..." He said softly and slowly approtched him. His eyes narrowed and slowly reached for her Father's hands. He could tell from how he wasn't even moving something was wrong... "M-Master...?" He asked softly and slowly place his hand on his Master's. (I'm sorry for not being on. My account was blocked for 13 days but now I am on. ^___^)

Happiness is only present... Asa'a eyes narrowed at James's inadvertent, though well intentioned order. However, a five-year-old would not notice it, much less heed the command, she schooled herself. Walking forward, contrary to James's command, Asa was inwardly obsessing over whether or not her cyanide trick had worked. She hadn't heard of an instance when it didn't, but still, there was always that small chance that it would fail. In a small voice, she asked, "Daddy?" Taking the other hand, she noticed the cup that had fallen to the floor. Had it worked? Picking it up, she clutched it to her chest. The faint smell of bitter almonds wafted up her nose, and she prayed that it had worked. ...where sadness is to contrast.
