Name: Mairel

Age: 41

Nationality: Aiel

Gender: Female

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Allegiance: Shaarad clan

Rank: Wise One

Society: N/A

Clan: Shaarad

Appearance: Compared to a wetlander woman, Mairel stands very tall, but among other Aiel, she is of average height. Her bright red hair which touched with small streaks of gray curls as if constantly touched by the wind, and falls well past her waist. The light green color of her eyes speak of years as a warrior and the wisdom of her current rank as Wise One and mother. Although being a Wise One does not involve the rigorous running and fighting that being a Far Dareis Mai once did, however, she insists on keeping her body tuned and fit. Her hands bear small scars from the calluses that once were apparent on them. Still even more scars from skirmishes with wetlanders during missions appear on various places. One such scar is one she is rather proud of which is stationed right below her left eyelid.

Being a full Wise One, Mairel wears the traditional brown shawl around her shoulders that accompanies the white shirt. The long, brown skirt that completes the ensemble is just long enough and loose enough that she has almost free range of movement. She wears sturdy boots, because whether or not she is running in the desert or simply standing in it, her feet are the part of her body that most need protection from the hot sands of the Three Fold Land.

Personality: Even though she has been a Wise One for a good many years of her life, Mairel is still very much a Maiden of the Spear in many ways. For instance, she is still proficient in the hand language of the Maidens, although she cannot use it, she can still understand it. While she has accepted her role, she still longs for the Spear. She handles all matters given to her with a firm grip and harsh words. Her way of thinking is very straight-forward and practical. As an Apprentice Wise One, she grudgingly did all that she was asked, with a few grumblings, but no questions asked. Now that her place in Aiel society is more stable, she does not defer to anyone.

As a Wise One, she is firm, but as a mother, she is even firmer. She expects her children to already know what she thinks is good for them, and for the most part, they do. However, if one steps out of line, all they have to do is look into their mother's eyes and see that they must change their ways. As her offspring, they represent their mother in Aiel society, and she never lets them forget that.

Items: Tent: Women are the only ones allowed to own property in Aiel culture, thus Mairel has an adequate tent to house herself and her daughter, Kiiran. Since the days when she lived with her husband and all three of her children, she's since bought a smaller tent, but it serves its practical purpose.

NPC: Youngest daughter, Kiiran: Both Mairel's older children have grown and been initiated into the warrior societies of their choosing. Her youngest daughter is eight years of age. Kiiran looks up to her mother and hopes to become a Maiden of the Spear like her elder sister and mother before her. With bright red hair in two braids, she looks remarkably like her mother. She already exhibits the strong, fierce traits of a future Far Dareis Mai.

Weapons: Words: Wise Ones are not permitted to fight, traditionally. Thus, the best weapon that Mairel has is her sharp tongue. She is not afraid to let loose verbal retribution whenever and however she sees fit. She can use words to do anything she wants. Sometimes the children of her clan can be so foolish.

Talents: Weaving: Mairel is a Wise One with the power to channel saidar and weave threads of the five elements. Not all Wise Ones have the power to do this, but she is one of them who possesses this gift. For all her sternness, however, the two elements which come naturally to her are Air and Spirit. Water, Earth, and Fire do not come as easily in her weaving. However, this affinity to Air and Spirit is good for her Healing ability.

Dream Walking: After passing the second test to become a Wise One in Rhuidean, many of her colleagues insisted on teaching her the art of Dream Walking. At first, she found tel'aran'rhiod to be too quiet and unsettling. She'd much rather walk in the waking world where things weren't as confusing. After a few lessons, however, she found that if one concentrated enough on what they wanted, Mairel had just as much control in the world of Dreams as she did when awake.

Fighting: Although it is not traditional for Wise Ones to fight in battles, Mairel still trains in secret just in case her skills are needed. She knows this is foolish, but she had many of her happiest years as a Maiden of the Spear.

History: Mairel was born into the Imran sept of the Shaarad clan. Her mother was a former Far Dareis Mai, choosing to give up the spear for her child. For the majority of Mairel's childhood, she wa fed stories of the Maidens and she admired the work they did from afar, wishing to join them. After reaching adulthood, she immediately joined the Far Dareis Mai, and swore that she would not leave the Spear if the choice came about. Her years as a Maiden were filled with satisfying missions and battles with unwelcome wetlanders, running through the Three Fold Land with her comrades. However, after only five years of her wish fulfilled, only half a decade of running with her sisters in arms, she was discovered as a channeler. She had never remembered consciously channeling, but the Wise Ones of the Shaarad clan cornered her and forced her to join as an apprentice. Grudgingly, she left the Spear and joined the Wise Ones. Her dream, it seemed, had died.

After attaining the brown shawl of a Wise One and learning fully how to channel saidar, her fellow Wise Ones suggested that she acquire a husband. Knowing that her fellow Wise Ones would only cease their prattling until she was married, she complied; she was no longer bound to the spear, after all. Why not bind herself to a man to fill the void? After searching the the dark conerners of her mind, she vaguely remembered a young man, a member of the Far Aldazar Din who had shown interest in her more than once. While Kiiern was speaking with his comrades and not expecting her, she simply walked up and laid the Marriage Wreath at his feet before walking off. For all she knew, he completely abandoned his conversation and follwed after her to her tent to tell her that he accepted.

Kiiern was a good man and gave her little trouble. He also gave her a son and two daughters. Their first child was a girl they named Alanza. She had her father's sandy-colored hair and blue eyes; she even exhibited the shape of his eyes, his nose and face, but she was like her mother in most other respects. She commanded everything she did with an iron will and soon left their home to join the Far Dareis Mai. Her son, named for his father, was only one year younger than his first-sister. He more resembled his mother than his first-sister had, but he still shared his father's slightly gentle ways of thinking. He went on to join, the society of Duadhe Mahdi'in, the Water Seekers. Ten years after the birth of their first daughter, Mairel learned that her husband had fallen in battle with shadowspawn. The day before, she had learned that she was expecting a third child as well. Kiiern had never gotten to see his two first born children enter the warrior societies of their choice.

After seeing her son Kiiern enter the Water Seekers, she and Kiiran purchased a much smaller tent that comfortably fit both of them. Mairel still holds a strong influence in her clan, and visits her children often to make sure they behave themselves. Kiiran has voiced her desire to become a Maiden of the Spear and is already showing the fiestiness that her mother is so proud of.
