"Uuuoooooooaaaaaaaarrg."
Shelly had an inkling that she should be happy now, but she wasn't sure about what. The groaning was new, and not something she wanted to continue, certainly. Whatever it was was lost on her, though she couldn't stop from grinning. Happy happy happy! She did something... extraordinary! And important. Very important.
It was doubtful that anyone could tell that by looking at her. Lounging halfway on top of a crate recently spat out by the surf, she looked like hell. Not that she cared, and as if to prove it, she slipped off and splashed the shallow beach water everywhere.
So very happy.

Ta was happy. No reason in particular. Did he really need a reason? The weather was beautiful, the water was warm, and the horizon had nothing but the endless blue ocean. Life was great.
He had been this way for a couple of days after his change. It felt like rain at the end of a long drought. This sudden change in mood would've worried him before, but hey, he felt alright for a change- maybe he should stop questioning what was going on and go with it. Whatever power was at work here seemed to be malevolant.
Ta swam towards the shore and plopped onto the shallows. It felt weird to feel the land underneath his new tail. The sense was new to the mer-person. It was like a large puzzle piece being forced into place. A fish out of water. He thought jokingly.
He looked down the beach to see someone else in the distance. Ta didn't recgonize who it was. Someone new perhaps? Whoever it was, they seemed to be having a good time splashing in the water.
"Hey!" He called out, waving his arms.

"Hey!" Shelly mimicked back - or rather, tried to. It ended up being more of a gurgle than anything. While she couldn't see the body of the voice waving his arms, she unintentionally mimicked that, too - with a bit more flopping and less fine motor skills. The fact that her arms were no better than noodles seemed to amuse her to no end, so she started to laugh.
Despite Shelly's euphoria, her body still wasn't willing to keep step. Rather than giggling like a drunk, she started up and nearly hacked out a lung in a coughing fit.

Ta furrowed his eyebrows, or at least, what were his eyebrows. Whatever the case, that didn't look good. He pushed himself from the shallows and swam down the coast to get closer to the newcomer. After a swim on shore, he looked at the human girl. Yes, she must've just washed up on the island a while ago. There was a crate behind her. Maybe she was pulled off a freighter of some kind? His attention came back to the girl.
"Are you okay?" He asked.

"Dandy," Shelly got out between coughs. Still, they were subsiding, so it couldn't be all that bad. She was looking at her hands, but... "Somethin's not right." It was weird, something she couldn't put her finger on. They twitches, her fingers, as if to prove a point.
Euphoria was ebbing away, confusion filling its place.
She felt really disconnected.
"...the hell?"
As if the answer was around her, she looked up. And got a face full of fishman.
"...the hell?!"
