Rune sat in the Galleon's Tavern in a table alone in the corner. Downing a tankard of ale, he reviewed his charts of the surrounding waters. As he was charting, his companion Pengu was asleep on the table, breathing slowly dreaming of fish and many antics in the Arctic.

Rune took another swig and reflected on his current situation. He was on the run from the Law for a long time. He started running when he was almost caught raiding an old temple on a "lost island" some time ago. He then ran into the Galleon and its crew and as "payment" for not getting turned in. Rune agreed to work on the crew as a Scout.

Rune shook his head at this thought.

"How do I get myself into these things. What's wrong with just getting some gold and going home happy, I mean really!"

Rune went back to reviewing the charts, trying to map a way out of his situation

Myst sighed as she entered the Galleon's tavern with her small griffin following her. Today had been horrible. After spending the majority of it gathering fish for Flambe. She had little patience for anybody; especially cooks who worshiped the female form and became really annoying really fast. It wasn't just the fact that she had to go out and get fish for Flambe that irritated her; it was the fact that after she had spent the time to catch the fish for the over zealous idiot that she had to haul them to the kitchen and somehow got stuck cleaning them.

'Rot you to the depths Flambe.'

Glancing around the dingy room Myst spotted a few of the ships crew sitting at the bar and a couple of customers at the tables. It was Rune off in the corner that caught her eye. He had charts spread all over the table along with his penguin flat out on it's back asleep. Apparently Rune was planning another treasure hunt and knowing her luck she and Nghath would be drug along as well.

Strolling over to the bar Myst glared right at the head bar wench,

"Gimme a bottle 'o rum, Scarlet."

Most of the people on the ship became creeped out when she did that. Especially since her eyes were blood red and at night she had been told they seem to glow with an inner fire. Myst would always just shrug it off but like any pirate she used anything that bothered the others to the best of her ability to get what she wanted.

"Here's your rum Myst. Now begone with you yah strange one."

Snatching the bottle from Scarlets hand Myst automatically wrenched the stopper out of the top with her teeth and took a hug swig. The strong liquor burned as it traveled down her pipes. With an un-lady like belch Myst turned around and strode over to Rune's table to see what he was up to.

"Oy' Rune, I hope you arn't plannin' one o' your dafter treasure schemes again?"

Startled with Myst's appearance, Rune looked up at her a moment, then smiled his usual mischievous grin. Myst was one of the few crew member he got along with on board. Maybe because her history is just as interesting as his own. 'Sides, those ears were pretty cute.

"Alas my dear, i wish it were a trip for myself. "sides my plans aren't daft .. they are just ... works in progress, yes."

He cleared some pencil shavings form the chart he was working on and moved a few things over.

"Mick wants me to chart the best course to navigate to this archipelago to dock. Apparently this area is wrought with natural resource he want to "Acquire" as it were."

Sighs "Though I hope we find something a little more rarer than minerals. I mean sure, they trade well with the mainlands, but c'mon, that's soooooooooooo cliché these days. What I wouldn't give for a jewel encrusted eye patch, or a ruby talking Parrot named ... Ruby.

Pengu looked up with a mean look from his sleep

Ahh! Not that I would want to replace you my penguiny comrade in arms!

He threw his companion a small herring which he happily chewed on. THen he rolled back over to sleep.

"So, I heard quite the ruckus from the Head Chef. What did you get yourself into this time?"

Myst sat her tankard down next to Rune. Looking over the chart in progress Myst recognized the archipelago as one she had frequented before becoming a citizen of the Galleon, and she continued to visit the island as an escape from her now hectic life on the Galleon. That was if you considered hectic as fishing part of the day, and then laying around in a hammock

"Eh... Rune you do know thar's a shoal t' t' south o' that archipelago and a reef t' t' north. T' Morgan can handle them just fine but t' Galleon would be pushin' it.""

Taking a long draw from her tankard she looked over at Rune.

"As for that blasted chef. He had me help in t' kitchen cleanin' t' fish I caught him that mornin'. When I know he has enough underlin's t' do t' job for him."

Myst snorted and twitched her ears. Her tail was twitching behind her tempting little Nghath to pounce on it and play with the tufted tip like a little kitten.

"Rot him."

Rune chuckled at her dismay but took her advice about the geographical layout of the area. The reef would make things difficult for a larger ship to navigate. So they would have to weigh anchor nearby and then take a smaller vessel through to the archipelago. Such a pain for what might only be a small vein of ore .. and even then the crew isn't equipped to handle mining operations like the one Mick thinks he would be running ... such a poor planner, how did he ever get to the top - Rune thought.

"Aye, we'll need the Morgan for this trip. That is, if a charming, young, and very capable captain would be willing to take us on a little trip for a while. We can take the scenic route and everything. And who knows ..."

Rune leaned in a moment

"We may even find something nice for you to take home, that is of course you can keep it out of the Chef's eyesight."

Myst glared at Rune over the top of her tankard. Carefully she weighed all the options in her head even though she knew well enough that no matter what she said they would still have to use the Morgan since the Galleon had no other small ships.

On one condition that slime cook be t' behave him self while upon me ship and that rodent o' a cabin lad rides locked in a crate.

Myst tapped the map with her finger lightly.

I get first pickin's o' what ever it be we find since we be usin' t' Morgan.

Taking another draw of rum from her tankard she again thought on what she knew to be on the island. It was horribly rich in fruiting trees and all sorts of edible things. Flambe would of course have a rare old time running around finding new things to cook for the girls but it was stuff like lost treasure that worried her the most. She had experiences with treasure hunts before with Rune and quite often they went from going great to going sour. If this was just a reconnaissance of the island they shouldn't have to worry on finding things to dangerous to investigate.

I swear Mick has had it in for us since we arrived here. Next t' Flambe's rainy fishin' days his investigations o' islands be pretty dangerous. I still haven't got all t' soap out o' t' deck boards yet. I hope somethin' eats that good for nothin' cabin lad when we go t' t' island.

Tapping a pencil on the table, Rune contemplated Myst's proposal a moment.

"Hmm .. Well, I have no choice in the matter. Mick needs this done otherwise its straight to the gallows with me, and lord knows where for you. We have an Accord."

Rune took Myst's arm and shook it, thus sealing their pact for the time being. The two of them got along well enough. Both of them shared a common enemy , as it were, with Mick. Mick was a sly one, gifted with a silver tongue and the gusto to back it up, he managed to recruit himself a fine pair with Rune and Myst. How the Galleon got along without this duo is anyone's guess

"I'll finish up the charts of the Islands and trace a path through, I'll leave the ship preparations to you."

He took a final swig of his ale and went to work.

With barking laughter Myst leaned back in her chair and looked up at the ceiling.

Rune you just said a strange word t' me. All I need t' worry about be havin' enough rum for t' trip. You want anythin' special then you had better pack it with you.

Myst preferred traveling horrendously light and because of that she had often found her self in quite a few scrapes from it. Like the time she got stuck in the Doldrums and of course had little to eat or drink. If it wasn't for the fact that she had long ago made a contraption to get the salt out of the sea water she would have probably died of thirst on that trip.

By any chance Rune do you know if anybody else be comin' with.
