Silent Words Spoken Loudly

As Zane ate at the bar, Lorraine made her some food as well.
“So, what’s hell like?” Loraine asked.
“Is it like the Bible-“
“No,” Zane said flatly. She heard him crunching loudly.
“And you don’t go there for sinning either. That’s all crap.”
“Really?” Loraine made her eggs and poured a little ketchup on top. She then sat down at the bar, with one seat and the holy water bottle between them.
“Then what is it like?”
“Like Earth, but more dark, chaotic, and awesome.” Zane said.
“Oh really?” Lorraine smiled. “And heaven is all prim and proper and-“
Zane tossed a charred piece of egg at her and it hit her with a popping sound as it crumbled, leaving a charred mark on her head.
“Ow! What was that for!?” She asked.
“I told you not to mock me.” He said and ate another spoonful.
“Yeah…yeah…” Lorraine replied.
“So what’s heaven like then?”
“Do I LOOK like I’ve been there!?” Zane snapped. Lorraine jumped.
“God…sorry.” She muttered.
Zane rolled his eyes and grabbed and apple from the fruit bowl on the bar.
“Our apples are golden.” He said turning it in his hand.
“Oh! Like the story of Atalanta? Where Hippomenes wins Atalanta’s hand in marriage by beating her in a race when he drops three golden apples to distract her?” Lorraine asked.
Zane grunted then smirked.
“Greek mythology, huh? I haven’t heard many earth stories about the whole…but I was thinking more along the lines of Eris and her ‘Apple of Discord’.” Zane said darkly.
Should’ve known…. Loraine thought.
“So…Hell and Heaven are like other Earths?” She asked.
“I guess you could say that.” Zane replied. “You have to be born into them…”
“Then where do you go when you die?” Lorraine asked. Zane paused. The image of Lorraine’s bright smile stirred him uncomfortably.
“I don’t know,” He lied. For some reason, he couldn’t bring himself to tell her.
They finished their meals in silence, and as Lorriane gathered the dishes she walked over to Zane’s to take his plate. He grabbed her wrist.
“You shouldn’t have fed me, human.” He said. “My strength is returning to me.” He rose from his chair as Lorraine grew fearfull all over again. She tried to wrench her hand free but he was too strong all ready.
Suddenly Zane laughed, and his grip loosened.
“Gotcha.” He said and Lorraine stuttered stupidly.
“It takes longer than that my dear,” He said and stretched, “For my powers to come back.” Lorraine sighed relief and gathered the plates warilly. As she was cleaning them Zane tapped her on the shoulder.
“Human,” He said.
“Lorraine.” She corrected him.
Lorraine.” He echoed.
“What?” She asked.
“What is a metal carriage doing in you yard?” Zane asked.
“Metal carriage?” Lorraine looked up then gasped.
“Oh my god my parents are home!” She turned to Zane, “Get upstairs!” She said.
“What!? You don’t order me around!” He snapped then smiled and grabbed Lorraine’s hands.
“Besides, I think they should come in and see you and me…on the couch…with my hands-“
Lorraine grabbed the holy water and pointed it at him.
“NOW!” She exclaimed. Zane hissed and hurried up the stairs. Slamming the door just as her parents opened the front door. (c)

"Good morning Loraine!" A rather small and pudgy man said cheerfully as he walking inside. He was followed by a slender woman, who tossed the car keys onto the table.
"I hope you weren't just waking up." The woman said.
"No no." Loraine said to her parents. "I've been up for awhile."
"Is something burning?" Mr. McMallon sniffed. Loraine laughed a nervouse laugh. It was high pitched and sharp. When Zane heard it he snorted and covered his mouth to keep from being heard luaghing himself.
"Yeah....I burnt some eggs." She said.
Her mother nodded.
"So long as you're okay, dear. Will you help us unload the groceries? Your father seems to think that "Buying in Bulk" means buying enough to fill the trunk of the car."
"Sure I'll-" Loraine started when three loud bangs on her door carried downstairs.
"What was that?" Mr. McMallon asked.
Loriane laughed nervously again.
"Oh, my shelves must have fallen over! I'll go check!" She said and bit her lip as she walked up the stairs. She hated lying to them.
"What are you doing in here!?" She whispered when she was in her bedroom.
Zane was leaning against the wall and looking out the window.
"You can't go outside." He said.
"Oh yeah? Why not?" Loraine asked. Zane pointed out the window and Loraine followed his gaze. Hiding just barely within sight were a group of demons. They were gross and snarling, ugly beasts with longs teeth and glowing red eyes.
"But I have to...." Loraine said. "They probably all ready think something's up. I can't hide forever...." She then turned and hurried out of the room.
"Stupid girl..." Zane breathed, opening the window and climbing out onto the roof. He watched quietly as Loraine and her parents unloaded the car. A strong and vile emotion swirled in him and he looked away towards the demons. They were moving closer so Zane let his power flow loose. The demons sensed him right away and looked up. Zane snarled silently and hissed ferally, revealing his long fangs. The demons scampered away.
Loraine heard them and turned to look at the house. What she saw was Zane on the roof in broad daylight. She was amazed that sunlight didn't effect him. When the last of the groceries were in, Loraine hurried back up to her room. Zane was sitting on the windowsill.
He looked at her coldly and said something in that demon language again. However, unlike the demons who used it before, the words sounded beautiful coming from him.
"What?" Loraine asked.
"Nothing...." Zane said.
"Oh....I've been thinking," Loraine said, her intuition was screaming for her not to say what was coming next.
Zane looked at her and raised and eyebrow.
"I was thinking...Maybe you shouldn't take my soul."
"What," Zane sneered. "You think you have a choice?"
Loraine stiffened.
"I like living far too much! I WON'T let you take my soul." She said, her intuition screaming for her to run. No. She had to see something....
Zane jumped off the windowsill and was on Loraine before she could move. He grabbed her roughly, forcing her onto the bed, and covering her mouth.
"YOU don't make that choice!" Zane hissed as she struggled beneath him.
He smirked.
"I could do whatever I wanted to you right now, you know." He said and to prove his point he pulled Loraine's shirt down a good two inches. He hadn't planned on it, but his senses began to speed up. His fangs slid from their sheaths, drawn by the frantic pulsing of in Loraine's neck. Her beating heart was practically a bass drum in his ears.
Loraine's eyes widened as she saw Zane's pale grey eyes flash with light, glowing red. He tilted his head back, ready to strike, and as he came forward Loraine closed her eyes tightly. There was a quick scrape against her flesh and suddenly Zane was off of her.
Is that it? Is it over? She wondered and opened her eyes. Zane was backed against the wall, hunched over like an animal. His hand was in his mouth and blood flowed from it. Loraine blinked.
"I-"
"Stay away from me!" Zane said, his eyes still glowing with red light. Loraine gasped and pulled her shirt up as Zane ran past her and climbed out the window.

For two weeks they did not speak. Loraine would wake up, "accidentally" burn some eggs, then get ready for school while Zane ate quietly downstairs. On the way to and from school Loraine knew Zane was following her just out of sight. One night when she went to the library, he followed her as well. He was like her shadow. When she opened the door to her room, after returning, Zane was sitting on the windowsill. Loraine knew however that he had just gotten there.
"I um...Found some books for you." Loraine said, breaking the silence between them for the first time.
"They are vampire books. I thought you'd have fun laughing at how they portray vampies."
Zane meerely glanced at her.
"I'll leave them on the desk okay?"
He blinked, watching her.
Loraine set the books down uneasily, and her gaze flicked to Zane's hand only briefly. It still had puncture wounds where he had bitten himself. How come it was taking so long to heal when his burn from her crusifix was allready gone?
"I was thinking..." Loraine said, sitting in her desk chair.
"Would you like to enroll in my school? If the teacher's catch you hanging out on the grounds again, they'll think you're cutting or something..."
"No..." Zane replied blankly. There was no emotion, not even the scorn that it had the day that all of this happened.
"Zane..." Loraine muttered. She didn't know why she wanted to help him. He wanted to kill her.
But he didn't... She thought.
But he had tried....
She shook her head.
"I'm...going to sleep...." She said and walked over to her bed, grabbing her shirt. She was about to pull it off when she noticed Zane watching her.
A blush passed into her cheeks and she climbed into bed in her day clothes.
"Good night..." She said and closed her eyes.
Zane waited until her breathing had slowed into the state of sleep before he jumped off the windowsill and walked over to her desk. He picked up the top book and examined it. Then a small bundle of papers beneath the stack caught his eye. He pulled them out and blinked in suprise.
Fake transcripts and everything, and they looked perfectly real.
He looked back at Loraine's sleeping form and the coldness in his eyes seemed to make way for a small light of warmth.
"Sleep tight. Don't let the werewolves bite..." He muttered, tucking the book under his arm as he climbed out onto the roof to read and fall asleep.
