Ophelia was a rather old android, and had finally managed to lull herself into everyday routine.

Then she had been presented with Bebe.

She didn't understand, she didn't have the human yearning for a child... and yet the opportunity to raise something the way you saw fit was something that Ophelia could not turn down.

So there she was, sitting in the mansion, a blanketed Bebe in her arms. The baby Bebe in question was pitching a fit, grumbling for attention. She had just been fed, changed, and was ready for her starfish chewie!

Man, he was tired. Brisby had been up most of the previous night being fussy, equating to little sleep for either the pilot or the panda. Early bed was certainly in order tonight.

Brisby, however, was showing no signs of wear despite the sleepless night, and was instead bouncing happily in his stroller. On occasion, when something interesting passed by, Brisby would point and warble out something unintelligible with great enthusiasm.

Yeesh, how could he be so hyper? Max had figured a run to the mansion would wear Brisby down enough to take a nap. Ah, blessed nap!

Unloading Brisby from the stroller and entering the mansion, Max was glad to see that there was someone else here. Great! "Afternoon."

"Ubwaa!" Brisby whined, struggling to turn around for a proper look.

"Good afternoon," said Ophelia as she stood up to properly greet this newcomer. After a quick nod, she sat Bebe down.

"I see you are a caretaker of one of these children as well, good sir. I am Ophelia, the guardian of this little one... Bebe. She is a child with the element of bleu cheese."

The way she introduced it all in her monotone voice was rather laughable, but the look on her face was completely serious.

O...kay... Was he just more tired than he thought, or was the woman talking very oddly? Probably both.

"Uh. Yeah. He's Brisby and... he's a panda." As if to demonstrate, he held Brisby out at arm's length. "Oh yeah. I'm Max."

Brisby wriggled in delight, bright green eyes focused on the red funny little thing. Oooh!

Was it typical for people to hold their babies like that? Ophelia had been programmed for etiquette, not child care.

So, in order not to be rude, she plucked Bebe up from the ground and held her out at arm's length as well.

Bebe didn't enjoy it as much as Brisby seemed to, and kicked her legs angrily, her nose wrinkled so much that her whiskers twitched. She hardly noticed the bamboo Sin'aeis, she wanted DOWN. NOW!

.... Right. Was this lady crazy or something? She had to be. No, really. At the very least she was creepy. "Right," he said vaguely, setting Brisby down on the floor. "Maybe if we let them get to know one another...?"

Woohoooo! Free to go about his business, Brisby made a beeline for Ophelia, trying to clamor up her skirt to see little funny red thing. "Eee!"

"Hey Brisby, be polite."

Ophelia glanced downward at the child trying to crawl up her dress. With a polite smile on her face she reached down and gave him a firm pat on the head along with the word, "No."

After her odd form of discipline (were babies puppies now?), Ophelia sat Bebe down beside Brisby.

Bebe looked over at Brisby, her eyes half-lidded and her mouth in a pout. She eyed him carefully, still, as she slowly put her starfish chewie in her mouth.

Of course the pat on the head and the firm word did nothing to dissuade Brisby from scrabbling up the woman's dress. It wasn't even until she set Bebe down that he stopped. A-ha! Target achieved!

Burbling happily, Brisby crawled over to the little red-thing. Oh, what? It was a little person-thing too? Hm. Hey, what was that white stuff? Far too long and frilly to be hair.

Tug. Tug tug. Oh wait, it was hair. Huh.

Bebe let out an angry squeak before smacking at Brisby's hand. That had hurt! She looked away from him, still holding onto her chewie. Her lips had curled back a bit, showing the buds of two front teeth growing in before all the rest.

"Play nice, Bebe," said Ophelia as she stiffly sat down in one of the chairs.

Bebe tilted her head back to show that she showed at least some acknowledgement, but she still stayed far away from the panda.

"Brisby..." Max sighed out as a half-warning, knowing it'd do no good. The child had a very selective sense of hearing, he'd recently found out.

Of course Brisby was ignoring his father. This was much too interesting. He withdrew his hand at the smack with a cry of surprise, but it wasn't long before he scooted forward once again, babbling a little bit in the incomprehensible baby talk. "Abababa ba!"

Bebe leaned forward, showing him the half-grown teeth in her gums. She was trying her best to be threatening, but to no avail.

His chatter was interesting, at least. She wondered if he'd make more sounds if she did something... so she reached out and grabbed his nose, wiggling it around.

"EEEE!" Brisby wailed in pained surprise, wrenching himself away from her grip. That hurt!

Hm. Things... things weren't going too well. "Play nice," Max said to the fussing pair of infants. This was normal, right?
