I'm glad to welcome all of you to your book club here on Gaia.
"For all of us that know the importance of a good book; for all of us that see our flaws and triumphs in our favorite characters; for all of us that are moved by the words of our favorite authors; for all of us that enjoy sharing these passions with others; this is your club."
The way this club works is simple:
- One book will be chosen at the start of each month out of a list compiled of submitted suggestions from the members.
- The last weekend of that month will be designated as days for "official" discussion of the book.
Of course, there are other specifics relating how the boards will function, but more on that later.
------------------------------------------
In order to ensure that every one of our members has the best experience possible, a few guidelines are expected to be followed:
- Follow the Gaia TOS. I shouldn't have to worry about these types of problems among a mature group of people.
- Please keep profanity to a minimum. I understand that there's just some things you can't express but with a curse, but please don't insert one in every other word of your comment. You read, you should have a bigger vocabulary.
- Please use proper grammar. I'm not going to be a "grammar Nazi", but please express your view in a way that everyone can understand. Again, you read, you should know better.
- Be civil and courteous when dealing with others. We are all members of one club, and while disagreements will occur, let's not be petty about them. Arguments are allowed, heck, even encouraged, but let's stay on topic (books) and let's have valid reasons to back up our arguments. Name calling will not be tolerated.
- When in doubt, ask. If you have a question about anything pertaining the book club and I have not addressed it, don't hesitate to ask. That's what I'm here for. 3nodding
-------------------------------------------
Behaviors that are Encouraged:
- As you know, only five suggestions are taken each month to be considered for our book of the month, or BOTM for short. If you want your book to be chosen, I encourage you to campaign for it! Create a thread telling us why the book should be nominated and get people behind you! *cough* *hint, hint Twilight fans* *cough* Remember, ultimately YOU choose our BOTM.
- Discuss the BOTM and other books! Talk about anything from writing style to character development to plot elements. How enthralling conversation is is of your own making.
- Have fun! Nuff' said. whee
