This is just a small chart showing the tax amounts taken for each amount.
1,000 = 20 5,000 = 100 10,000 = 200 15,000 = 300 20,000 = 400 25,000 = 500 30,000 = 600 35,000 = 700 40,000 = 800 45,000 = 900 50,000 = 1,000 75,000 = 1,500 100,000 = 2,000 125,000 = 2,500 150,000 = 3,000 175,000 = 3,500 200,000 = 4,000
Say, if you see a Oculus Magica for 50,000g...the next highest one after that one is 51,000g.. Easy 1k right?! WRONG!! If you bought the 50k Oculus and then turn around and put it up for 50,950, just under the other guys price, when that item sells you will have lost money. --- WHAT?!?! --- Yes, I know..this was my reaction as well. Gaia will charge you a 2% tax on that 50,950g, which comes out to 1,019g. So instead of gaining 1k you have lost 69g. The nex tax has made us as venders look more closely at the prices that we once jumped at.
How you can use this is by looking at the tax amount taken before deciding on buying something off the MP when you intend on turning around and selling it. For every 5,000 gold the item costs the tax raises by 100 gold. So, you must be careful when making sure you will still gain a profit.
If your profit potential is less than the tax amount of your item you will lose money on the turn around.
Anything over 200,000 gold I would advise selling in the Exchange Forum. They will usually offer less than the MP prices but you arent getting raked by the 2% tax. So, if you are selling something worth 300,000g (MP value) even if some only offers you 295,000g for it..you will still be making more than you would on the MP since the tax would take 6,000g right off the top. You get more money and the person buying it got a better deal. Everyone wins! You can do this with items under 200k mark as well if you feel you can get a better profit by selling on the exchange. Plus, the exchange is more one on one and can provide entertainment in boring times. biggrin
Any other suggestions, comments, and complaints about this tax?

I absolutely hate this tax. At first, it cut into my profits very roughly because I didn't know it was there and I was undermarking items. Since then, buying in the MP is much harder, because sells that I would normally make an easy 100g-1k on I now will be lucky to get 5 gold on.
Basically, while they're removing Gaian gold from the economy, they're causing inflation in the items by doing this. Look at the charts of -all- the MCs, and you'll see a period right near the end (on the year chart) showing it spike up suddenly. That's when the tax began.
It's stupid, I hate it, but this guide will be very useful! Thank you smile

I know, I cant stand it. Anything that makes me do math on the fly is no good! xd
Plus, getting used to the whole idea is difficult especially if you have been vending for awhile before this tax came about.
My general rule now is if it is about 50,000 I only buy it if it is marked down by at least 2000g. This usually works for any item between 10,000-60,000. So, its a good number to look for.

Yeah, that's basically what I do. I look up items in my price range and check them all out, hoping for good deals. Usually in one sweep of the MCs I can find one 2k under, but even if it's 1k under I'll buy it sometimes. I can often sell MCs -over- value, at nighttime, so it usually works out.

I usually do not buy if it is less than 1k cheaper, UNLESS its a promising item. It seems like I havent been able to find those today/yesterday. :: pout ::
I am still making money though. The other day I only had 225k. My highest gold amount today was nearly 500k. But I bought some things....tsktsk

Damion Asmodai Basically, while they're removing Gaian gold from the economy, they're causing inflation in the items by doing this. I've heard problems with abundance of gold, but I do hate them making a tax. I love the MP because it's player-driven, and player gold and items. Intead of giving gold back to Gaia through the stores, you can give gold to other players through the MP. smile

i agree, maybe, they want inflation so more people will buy gaia gold with real money wink But seriously, now, i can only buy items if they are like 2k under or something because i have to remind myself of the 2% fee xp
