Ugh. That guy's an idiot.

I have peoplelike that at my school. 'Oh, that isn't so hard all you do is twirl flags! Cheerleading's much harder!' Mother******s. I'd like to see THEM march drill, look up, do the movements, portray the emotions, do the work, AND have it look good.
I'm considering taking them to band camp and showing them just how hard it is.
I can't wait.

Some people believe that if it doesn't include a ball, it isn't a sport.

FYI, I march backwards on the balls of my feet.

yeah, i saw him on your profile, i was about to give him a peice of my mind, actually i think i will, after i finish my bbq sandwich but like yeah, honestly? I think marching band is harder than football as well as basketball.

and each kind of thing/sport has its own difficulties, its just alot of people just take marching band for granted and call it "lame" and "pointless" and "easy". in which i say "hush yo' faces! Marching band is like driving, your CONSTANTLY LOOKING, CONSTANTLY ALERT!!!! Do you have to watch a drum major, use your periphereal vision, keep in line, make sure your in step, make sure your using the correct technique and not just shuffling your feet, play out and show your musicianship AND MEMORIZE ALL THE COUNTS IN ALL OF THE SETS IN A SEVEN- TO TEN MINUTE FREAKING SHOW?!?! IIIII didn't think so."

Well said all of you! People like that always tick me off. A lot of people do believe that marching band is not a sport in my school. In fact, I get taunted every day about being a band geek ( though it is better that some things they call me).

Marching Band IS a sport. so is RotC and Cheerleeding! So they need to get over it and stop thinking they're so cool.

just to prove my point:

sport-an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature

athletic-physically active and strong

prowess-exceptional or superior ability, skill, or strength

Marching band- march and play at the same time. we have to keep a strait and strong posture. rolls step(which by the way gets really painful) , keep our instrumants facing the box at ALL TIMES(which also gets painful. try getting any normal person to hold a 2-40lb [yes they do get that heavy depending on what you play] instrument facing straight without resting your arms against your body for 10 minutes straight.) we are NOT allowed to move at all except for marching. (that includes fixing ur hair. itching your face. turning around to see what the big heavy object flying towards your head is, defending yourself if stupid idiots try making fun of you by jabbing at you, ect) There are also multiple sets that if you don't space/march it exactly as it's planned you might end up dead. We come within inches of colliding with each other every time we practice but that's how it's written we have to do it. Sometimes we're so close the trombone will have to lift their slide over our head. have you ever been hit in the head with a hard cold and heavy peice of metal(brass) at full speed? It hurts...really bad.

Oh and...what about spirals! haha! here's a little story of one tiny peice in our show that took about 30 seconds to march but an entire month to learn.take an extremely muddy feild that's really hard to balance on. now watch the second hand on a clock for a few seconds. then go try standing in that mud on your tip toes. all the way up now. It has to be visible enough that people can see you're on your toes from at LEAST 30 yards away. hard in the mud huh? too bad. now walk backwards. STAY ON YOUR TOES OR 60 PUSH UPS IN THE MUD! remember the clock? good. cuz you have to do 2 and a half of those "backsteps" per clock second. Great! YOu can do it after an hour of practice you're pretty good. now do it without your hands for balance. you have to keep a strait posture. just the same as while you're at attention. Now that you got that down, get your buddies to line up into a spiral with you. remember everything you've learned. Now for a game of follow the leader.unwind that spiral at that spead with that posture in the mud. make sure you stay in line.but you're not allowed to look behind you remember that! No you're doing it wrong! Again!....Again!...Again! you better be happy! This is marching band there's no crying! nomatter how close you get you can't be scared. just keep going and hope you don't crash. and be careful cuz if one person slips or trips and falls down you guessed it. dominoes happen...you're ALL doing down with them. good. do it over and over and over again untill it's 100% perect. Losing is NOT an option! oh by the way...as soon as you finish learning how to march this. we're going to have you play that music you memorized while marching it and it has to be played at the same speed that you're marching. And don't you dare rest your arms. that instrument stays facing the box at the top of the stands. laziness will not be tolerated and if i see you resting your insrument on your chest or marching even a split millisecond slower than everyone else you're doing pushups!

I constantly hang at the band room w/ other marchers, but there is one girl who hangs with us who is not in band at all. She is a jock and said that marching wasn't a sport. . . IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUNCH OF BANDOS! Everyone there began to gang up on her (and there were about 20 of us) and lets just say. . . we won. wink

People like that get on my nerves.(not talking about that guy tanaka yuko, I dont know what he said cuz i cant view his profile.) You dont mock something that people are proud of. How can people be so ignorant and incosiderate of others feelings?

Ha! not a sport wow, well people consider dance line a sport right? or a least they think it look hard, but I was talking to my dance teacher and even she said that Marching band was harder then dance line. now don't get me wrong i'm not saying that it isn't hard or that they're not good I'm just saying that we're better.

I agree with Geek_lady_42. plus.
Okay... most of you are probably going to tune me out cause i'm getting ready to talk about guard.

First and foremost. The band. They are all like "you dont do anything...blah blah blah" today is July 15 and they have only had three practices for the season. Us guard... we started mid may with conditioning.

(my other point is we saved them last year at state by getting straight ones when they got a 2 razz )

Second... I talk about guard in class and everyones like... all you do is spin a flag. Do they realize that we have to do this while being instep with the band, and spinning our flags in unison, catching everything that comes out of our hands? And its not very easy to do all of that in the wind (the colorguard's enemy)

Third... we get crap from the cheerleaders saying how we arent athletic and suck. Ummm. our cheerleaders dont even compete. So we've already one-upped them. And two... we condition all the time. and three, by third quarter they are lying down, done with their cheers. The band/guard has just went through the whole first half and half-time. and we are still doing our job

My ranting is now over razz
