In the expert opinion of Laxis, Grant was a great blonde idiot. Zsolt was a cruel caretaker to leave him with the sirloin stealing brute during his time away. Which was more important: the well being of his housemate or more touring?

It’s like he just came from touring anyway. Or maybe the horror of blondie’s last visit is still too fresh. -Laxis

In the equally expert opinion of Grant, Laxis was a hypersensitive midget who deserved to be teased. His teasing shouldn’t be taken to heart, but the reactions it got were priceless. If Laxis wished to blame anyone for his plight, it ought to be the Geezer for continuously roping him into this job.

Who would keep wearing a vest so short? Hasn’t he realized he’s too big for it. The runt isn’t old enough show off a sexy abdomen. Maybe he’s too much of an animal to be fully clothed.
- Grant

Little did the pair know, that this little house sitting adventure would be a little more eventful than sirloin stealing. They would learn that a cat was far more troublesome than a dog. While a dog thinks it’s human, a cat believes it’s a god.

I am a fox, not a dog!
- Laxis

Chapter o1.
Characters: Laxis, Zsolt, Grant, and a cat.
Pairings: Hints of Zsolt x Laxis if you squint
__________________________________________________________________

Laxis started balefully at Grant after Zsolt managed to get him detached from his leg long enough to get out of the door. Zsolt wasn’t sure why he had a bad feeling in his stomach about leaving the two alone again. He’d gotten a surprise when he first laid his eye on them after returning the last time - but it didn’t turn out to be serious. Boys would be boys. He just chalked it up to paranoia and brushed the feeling aside. Laxis was a big boy and Grant wouldn’t let anything happen to his ‘pet’, if he knew what good for him.

While his ‘owner’ was able to shake off his negative feelings, Laxis couldn’t do it. A rock had settled in the pit of his stomach and his mind was poisoned with the memory of his sirloin disappearing down the throat of the blonde King Kong while he loomed over poor, helpless Laxis. The b*****d even sucked his fingers when he was done! Grant shut the door behind the red haired demon and shifted blue eyes towards the fox child. The way he kept looking at him was a little creepy and gave him goose bumps.

“I know I’m hot and all, but do you have to stare so hard?” He asked, golden brows furrowing slightly. Laxis’s own cinnamon eyes slanted irately, fur bristling along his tail and neck, “I would never look at you for that reason! I’m watching you so you don’t make trouble again!” A faint blush did stain the boy’s cheeks, hot with embarrassment and rage. The only person he could stare at and admire was…

“Your owner hasn’t taught you good manners. You shouldn’t be rude to a house guest.” Grant grinned wolfishly, wagging a finger in Laxis’s direction. He made it too easy.

“My owner!? Why you…” He was not ‘owned’ by Zsolt! The man took care of him, and looked after him, fed him, pet him… but still! Laxis was not a dog. Who would ever keep a demi-human fox for a pet? Especially a grown up one his age. Grant was just trying to get at him again.

While Laxis tried to sort this out in his head, Grant continued to snicker, dropping down his duffle bag of supplies near the door. Before Laxis knew it, a large hand was ruffling and messing up already out of control hair, “I didn’t give you permission to pet me!”

“Zsolt warned me. You still have a grudge about that stupid sirloin. It was tasty though.” The grin Grant wore flashed brightly, in contrast to the dark aura shrouding the demi-human at the mention of it.

“I’ll never..”

“Forgive me?” The elder teen snorted, straightening his posture, “Will you do it, if I buy sirloin tonight from Ringel?” Besides, as much as he would enjoy lazing around Zsolts house and eating his food, it would be a better stay without the midget lurking and watching him like some shadow beast. The suggestion did the trick. “Do you mean it? We can have sirloin from Ringel!?” Laxis’s mouth began to water, the dark gaze turned hopefully.

I think the glare was less disturbing.
-Grant

He nodded, nonetheless, “ Sure, we’ll get it for dinner tonight.” He settled, “We’ll go before I sit comfortably. I’ll put my things away when we get back.”

He has a one track mind. Sirloin this and sirloin that.-Grant

While Laxis was not completely won over, the idea was appealing and it would take his mind off of Zsolt who he was missing already, “ That’s fine with me. Let’s go!”

He grasped the door handle with a foot paw already hovering over the threshold to step out. He was so childish, was he really only a year younger than Grant? The blonde didn’t know Laxis’s age anyway. He shrugged, marveling at how quickly the boy’s mood had changed and headed to pull up the rear . . .only to step right into him. Laxis yelped, grasping the sides of the doorframe to keep from falling forward. It was his turn to get goose bumps with Grant smacked against the back of him. It was uncomfortable and unpleasant!

“What the hell are you doing?” A little annoyed, the blonde peeled himself off of the demi-human and peered over his shoulder to see just what the problem was. There didn’t appear to be anything until he looked down. There was a small black cat sitting on his haunches. Laxis must have stopped so he wouldn’t end up stepping on the little thing.

“It’s Zsolt’s cat.” he said brusquely, never once thinking otherwise. Zsolt certainly couldn’t have taken the thing with him on tour. Why else would there be a cat sitting in front of Zsolt’s door that way.

“I know that.” The demi-human put it, not stupid enough to need something so obvious pointed out to him. He sniffed softly, side stepping while Grant reached to pick the little fellow up. He must have gone to watch his owner leave and come back to find the door shut. So he waited. The little feline always seemed well-behaved in the demon’s presence, seated comfortably on the man’s shoulder or arm. He didn’t see any reason why it wasn’t okay to pick up the feline.
Before his hands could close around it, he received a surprise. Grant’s body seized up with shock, realizing what had just happened. The cat’s teeth were firmly clamped around his left hand and didn’t give much sign of wanting to let go. He shook his hand a few times to try and get rid of the little beast.

“Is there something going on.” Laxis inquired, peering over Grant’s shoulder now, since his babysitter had moved in front to get the cat.

“He’s a nibbler.” The other explained, frowning and holding his hand when he finally managed to yank it away.

I don’t think I like pets much either.- Grant

The furred ears on either side of Laxis’s head perked, tilting said head ever so slightly. And adorably, “I don’t remember him being a nibbler before.” Nibbling on someone’s hand would taste bad anyway. It must be a cat thing.

“Bad cat! No biting.” He slipped from behind Grant to give the naughty black cat a smack on top of the head. He scooped it up in his own paws while the feline was still stunned, small pink mouth slightly ajar at his own punishment. Laxis never noticed cats had such sharp teeth before. He hoped Grant’s bite was okay.

“Let’s go before it gets too late.” The old teen seemed to be alright. He pulled a small rag out of his pocket and wrapped it haphazardly around the bite so the trio could be on their way to the store.

End o1.
In the next chapter: Zsolt’s cat ( or is it his cat ) gives Grant and Laxis a big surprise. How will the two ever explain this to him when he gets back?

Chapter o2.
Characters: Laxis, Grant, and a cat.
Pairings: None in this chapter
__________________________________________________________________

Laxis learned that it was possible to take some pleasure in the mild discomfort of other’s. The kitten had always been so cuddly, but it was giving Grant one heck of a time now. He was more concerned with hurrying to the market than helping to calm down a cat.

“Hold still already will you?” Grant considered himself lucky enough not to get bitten and wondered many times rather Zsolt would really miss this thing. He had Laxis. Sure, that furball was too big to cuddle on a shoulder but he’d be useful for way more things than a cat. This time it was taking swipes with its small - but pointed claws at his earrings.

Attracted to shiny things are you?
- Grant

“Here, you take it for a while! You two both belong to Zsolt, you’re like brothers!” He yanked the cat from his shoulder and handed it to Laxis, ignoring the snickering fox. It’d be the last time he volunteered to play nice babysitter, “Animals are smart. They can tell the difference between good and bad people.” the demi-human replied with a smug expression. He retrieved the feline and it scurried up his arm to settle on top of his head.

I never heard Zsolt call it by a name…
-Laxis

How was he going to call the cat? Oh well. It wasn’t going to run off or anything. Fixing a grin on his face he grabbed a hold of Grant’s nearest arm and drug the blonde along through the street.

“Good, we’re finally here!” Grant announced, his mood picking up with the journey completed.

“Ringel’s dead ahead!” The fox boy was off like a shot, zipping into the store. The cat hadn’t been able to hold onto his perch well enough and tumbled head over tail. Luckily, cat’s landed on their feet. With some measure of fear, the feline realized that is had once more become pedestrian, in a public place where there were a lot of feet. A large pair of which belonging to Grant stopped behind him. The fur along the ridge of his back rose, bristling as though he’d been electrocuted - tail stiffening.

“Nyao!” Tiny paws hit the ground, darting away through the crowd. It took a moment, the space where the creature once stood now empty, for Grant to realized Zsolt’s cat just freaked out.

That geezer is so going to owe me!
- Grant

“Come back here cat!” He exclaimed, heading off after it. But being only on two legs he was much slower. Laxis poked his head out to tell Grant to come pay for the food - only seeing the blonde’s retreating back. Was he trying to run out on the deal?! The demi-human was dumbstruck. “Come back here!” He shot out of the shop to chase the already fleeing duo. The crowd was sure to stay out of their way.

“I see it!” The blonde huffed. They must have run a good long way. The shop wasn’t even in sight and the crowd had thinned out. He pointed towards the figure of the cat resting on an awning stretched from a building.

“Nyaao!”

“Okay. Good kitty. Come on down. If you do, I’ll buy you a couple of shrimp how about that?” He tried to bargain with the animal. “I should have known better than to expect my mortal enemy to be nice. You ran away without paying!” So. The other one had caught up. Rolling his eyes, he motioned towards the cat, “It ran away. Get it down, it likes you better.”

The cat- for one, was tired of those two. Two leggers were so troublesome. The black cat turned tail and leapt from the awning, intending to hit the ground and dart off between a space in the fence. Unfortunately, it wasn’t going to happen. The space was just a little too small and it ended up running nose first into the fence. Yowling in pain it fell back, rolling into the shadow of the awning.

“!” Laxis hurried over to the cat. Now was their chance to grab it, if it was dazed. He padded over to the shadow the cat had rolled into, “Kitty, are you oka-” The sentence hadn’t gotten out of his mouth before he was interrupted.

“Don’t touch me, you ugly boy!” A voice made nasally from a smashed nose growled at him.

Ugly boy! Who is an ugly boy. Why that wretched little -
-Laxis

He opened his mouth to retort and snapped it shut.

Cat’s don’t talk. But it just talked.
-Laxis.

“Did he forget to tell you something important about his cat? Since when does a cat do that?” Grant scratched his head, just as confused as Laxis,” I don’t know.” The fox responded. He took a second look. Instead of a cat he saw the curled figure of a young boy with dark hair and pale yellow eyes. His clothing consisted of dark pants and a shirt fitting him like a second skin. The feline ears and tail protruding from his backside were hard to notice.

“A demi-human, like me?” Laxis murmured. This creature had a pretty face, why out here all alone, “Have you seen our cat? We lost sight of him when he rolled into the shadow.” A cat rolling? It was so strange. But there were a lot of things that were strange around here. The unidentified youth glowered at Laxis, “Don’t treat me like a pet. And stop chasing me around. What’s your problem?” He went to pick himself up off of the ground, black ears lowered and pressed against black hair.

It couldn’t be.
-Grant

“We weren’t chasing you. We were chasing a cat, unless…” Zsolt forgot to tell them something serious about his cat.

“What do you think stupid?” The demi cat hissed at Grant. At least someone was finally beginning to get it, “ Keep that dirty thing away from me. I detest canines.” He spoke with quite the haughty air, eyes narrowed at Laxis. Grant stroked his chin in thought.

“I’m not filthy!” Laxis ranted. Between this jerk and the blonde jerk he was going to end up with high blood pressure. Then what would Grant report back?

“But Zsolt’s cat has never…” The feline boy tossed back strands of hair haughtily. These weak minded two leggers just weren’t backing down. His plan should have been perfect. Human’s liked cats and he’d been hungry. Find a house and he’d go up to it, meow a few times - get petted, fed, and scratched, have a warm place to sleep for the night and then he’d be on his way. He had never been chased like this before!

“Who is this Zsolt man you keep speaking of? I don’t belong to anyone!” Hopefully this would drill into their thick skulls.

This plainly isn’t Zsolt’s cat. And we were both too blind to see it…
- Grant

“So you’ve been playing us both. That ain’t very nice of you.” But overall, Grant was relieved that Zsolt’s cat wasn’t some shape shifter.

“Hey! You bit me several times. You little brat!” He remembered. And if it wasn’t Zsolt’s cat he could take revenge.

“And you insulted me. Why did you let me hold you before?” Laxis put in plaintively.

“Because he held on too hard.” The cat responded. Grant almost squeezed his sides until he choked,” Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have better places to go, things to do, people to see.” Rubbing his reddened nose one last time, the cat boy sprung up onto the awning and leapt the fence - disappearing from the view of Laxis and Grant. The looks in the eyes of the blonde and fox boy told him he’d better make himself scarce quickly or else they’d use him to practice skinning a cat.

The pair was silent for a time, going over the very strange thing that just happened to them.

“Grant. If that isn’t his cat…where is it?” The fox boy asked finally.

“I don’t know. Ask him when he gets here. I just want to forget this weird thing happened. Let’s go eat sirloin.” He patted Laxis on top of the head, said demi-human giving a joyous cry at the thought of being able to eat again.

If it had been Zsolt’s cat, they would have had a big problem to deal with. The only good thing that came out of this? He and Laxis found common ground in the mutual dislike of being tricked by shape shifters. It was a start.

End o2.
The almost end of this short fic! However, there will be one more brief installment. They break the big question of his cat’s whereabouts to Zsolt, and the shape shifting one will make one more brief appearance.

Epilogue.
Characters: Laxis, Grant, Zsolt. Vermillion and Damien cameo
Pairings: Laxis x Zsolt
_______________________________________________________________

Their understanding didn’t last very long. By the next day, Laxis wagged war on Grant for his cruel teasing yet again. He just couldn’t help himself. But the restored dynamics of their relationship helped glaze over the all too strange interaction with the faux feline. Together, Laxis and Grant would launch once last united effort over it though.

The last thing Zsolt was expecting when he entered his own front door was to be accosted by the two brats, “I’m home!” He called out, wondering what he should expect to see this time. His remaining good eye swept over the room laid out before him and settled on two swiftly approaching figures.

“?”

“Zsolt!” “Geezer!” The voices chorused together. With a nervous sweat the red haired male took a brief step back towards the door. The younger sibling of Rance glowered at him with arms folded over his chest while Laxis - who had ventured closer - grabbed onto the hem of his jacket giving a tug, his face set in a demanding expression.

I missed a big event?
- Zsolt

“Where is your cat!?” The pair demanded to know from him. The nervous look cracked from Zsolt’s face, leaving only one of mild confusion. Why the hell did they want to know where his cat was? This is the exact reason he would never trust it to clowns like this. Somewhat irritated by the anti-climatic questioning, he clicked his tongue and moved past them so he could set down his bag and guitar. They were heavy to stand around holding like this.

“With Jereon.” He said simply. Both teens were silent for a moment.

“Since when does he watch another living thing?” Grant asked, brows furrowing deeper. It would have helped to know the cat had a babysitter earlier. But Jereon hardly seemed like the type to watch anything. He would have thought it’d be better off with Adrianna.

“Since I asked him. Adrianna was busy.” He explained as though reading the blonde’s mind.

“Zsolt, you cat…it doesn’t change into a demi-human shape does it?” Laxis asked, pulling his jacket again. The eyebrow over Zsolt’s good eye perked slightly, “No.” Laxis looked relived. The curious owner was about to ask why the fox boy would ask him such a thing. Laxis’s action beat him, “Welcome back home!” He chirped, hugging Zsolt and glad he and Grant would never need to mention the other black cat. He nuzzled his face against the bigger man’s chest and pushed himself up on claw tipped toes to place a chaste kiss at the corner of Zsolt’s mouth. It was very unexpected.

“Ugh. That’s gross. Is the old man blushing?” Butting in, Grant broke the interesting moment.

“Shut up!” Both Laxis and Zsolt glared at the blonde.

“Why are you still here, you can leave now!” the demi human continued on.

“Are you planning something then, eh? Is that it?” The elder teen pressed on, grinning broadly. It took a moment for his insinuation to sink in and Laxis’s face turned the color of his ‘owners’ hair. Steaming out of his ears he lashed out at Grant.

“You big perverted king kong, how can you say that thing to me!? I only want to spend time with - he’s been gone and you…you’re terrible!” He tripped over the words in his frustration, only silencing himself and flattening his ears when a hand was placed on top of his head.

“You can go now, I’m going to catch up with Laxis.” And make sure he hadn’t done anything incriminating again. The blonde’s wolfish grin turned on Zsolt now, “I bet you’re gonna catch up alr-”

Kyaa!!” Unable to take anymore, Laxis tackled Grant and they were left wrestling on the floor. Zsolt moved out of the way watching for anyone who’d knock over furniture, because then there would be hell to pay. And he did not blush over that little peck.

Welcome home, huh? It’s nice to hear that.

He was glad to back.

Back in the market

“What are we doing here again, master?” The wolf headed man asked, face wound in cloth to hide his questionable appearance. He didn’t mind following his master. He was a little uncomfortable with all of the people around and the children with their grabbing fingers. Inwardly, he sighed. This was an unnecessary trip.

“I’m in the mood for sirloin tonight and this place has the best.” The raven haired male walking ahead of him explained airily. He moved with self-confidence and a bit like a predator, turning heads as he walked towards Ringel’s.

I don’t understand why we would come to this common place. He just wants to bathe in the attention.
-Vermillion

Again with his inward sigh, he came to a halt almost walking into Damien who’d come to a halt. A plain black cat had moved into their pathway. He wrinkled his nose at the small pile of fur and stepped from behind Damien, and closer to his side.

“Well, what do we have here. A lovely little black cat.” The corner of Damien’s lip tugged up into a smirk that was more chilling that welcoming really. It came from years of practiced evil. He couldn’t shake it off, even to invite a hapless animal. The feline mewled in return and the dark wizard knelt to brush a hand over the cats head. He preferred dogs, but a pretty furball was a pretty furball.

“Aren’t you adorable?”

Vermillion rolled his eyes and wished the wizard would go on and get this useless sirloin. A choked sound drew aqua eyes down to Damien’s back. The male had froze suddenly, a slight tremble in his shoulders.

“Master…are you alright?” The werewolf began to question slowly, worry.

Damien nodded, waving his hand around to attempt to dislodge the set of teeth firmly clamped on pale fingers. The little monster, “It’s a nibbler.”
