Zykariel was thrilled. His parents were talking and there was even some laughter but the point was they weren't fighting right now. He didn't even have to feed the conversation anymore. Instead he was free to sit there and let his father play with his hair.

"Yes the sight would be slightly entertaining. But then you could always splash me for your revenge." She chuckled at the image that provoked and took another drink from teh bottle. "Are you sure? It's really quite good. Bloodwyne."

He giggled. "Yeah, we tried to make stuff the other night but we coudln't figure which jar of green stuff to use." He lifted his shoulders in a shrug. "They all look the same."

Her head snapped up adn she stared at them for a moment feeling heat fill her cheeks though her embarassment would only be documented in her eyes. "Well...nobody else ever uses them..I always meant to, just didn't get time..." Hmm more wine soudned good.

"Yes, I can cook. I wasn't always a lord and master of a plot of land, you know."

A slight smirk, and then he picked his son up, after putting the angel hair pasa in a basin of boiling water, and starting to steam teh brocolli and the crayfish.

"Okay now we make the sauce."

Thought he got all teh contents needed and the cinnamon, and put them in the bowl with milk and that little whipping device he coudl never recall teh name of.

"Stir this up until it's thick and creamy, and push the crayfish off the stove with that glove by your hand when they turn bright red. I'm going to get the plates and tray."

There now his son could feel real important and not risk any injuries or supersized messes. and he coudl think of how to talk to Piper and get her to at least understand that he wanted his son to know how to defend himself with a weapon even as a toddler. the Underfoot was a very dangerous place, and that mention from the 'spy' bothered him. he didn't like even the thought that his family was under constant watch by druids.

"I'm fine...you know I don't like to drink. All the more for you." Well this was kind of nice now wasn't it? Despite the horse part really."No you didn't." Hey he wasn't that stupid. Then he shrugged. "When we can't figure something out we just omit. So yes, things are a little off...but it's not so bad. I'm still fabulous at spahetti though. It's the finer more suragry things the boy craves that I'm at a loss on." Squeezing his son at the comment. Cookies and such...he burned those everytime or they weren't sweet like they were supposed to be.

"Mommy's never told any stories about that." And she told stories about him all the time when he asked. Daddy had always been someone to look up to. But onto making dinner for mommy so she'd be happy...after all he may not get his goodnight from her if she was in a bad mood. "What are we eating?" Because he assumed that this was just for mommy. But onto doing what he was told as he was held at the right height. See he was just learning all kinds of things wasn't he. Wasn't too hard for him to do either task, stirring until it was right and then moving the pot off to the counter...with a little difficulty...when the crayfish were the right color. All the while he was whistling a tune of some sorts.

"When I was in the military, a few months before the Battle of Bloody Kithcor...the King of Neriak himself came to our unit. As I was in charge, I was informed prior that he was going to have a banquet to promote moral."

Casually getting out some other dinner items.

"the King wanted our unit to provide the banquet dinner. Most consider that an insult. after all, we were Shadowknights of the Lodge of the Dead. not cooks. I considered it a challenge. He wanted to see us do a bad job, so he coudl blame his wife for a lousy banquet. He and his wife didn't get along too well, and her throne was the one our unit was tied too."

a small chuckle.

"So I spent a month learning to cook a variety of things. I'm not a chef, but I know my way around."

Setting some more pots an dstarting on making spagehtti and meatball sauce. hey he had plenty of angelhair pasta in that thing.

"He burned hte cookies three times." Zykariel supplied helpfully and reached for another cookie. "and another time he forgot the chocolate chips but a few times he got it right. They were pretty good too. I told him not to make cakes though. He gets upset when things don't turn out good, don'tcha Daddy?"

"Everyone has trouble with it in some aspect or another." She chuckled at the image of a bewildered Sevilin staring at blackened discs on a tray, unable to make them golden or even taste god. "See, improvisation in cooking is good. So is substitution. don't have one ingredient, use another that's close enough to work." She glanced at the bottle sitting by her feet and shook her head. "Oh but this is almost like not even drinking. It's that good and I don't feel a thing." She took another sip from the bottle and then raised an eyebrow. "Just a taste?"

He tilted his head at the bottle and then looked at his father. Hey if it wasn't like drinking maybe he could have some. "Can I have a taste?"
PostPosted: Sat Dec 23, 2006 11:04 pm

"Is it hard being in charge of all those shadowknights?" Because theses kinds of things were fascinating in an aspect to him and daddy didn't tell him too many stories like this. Maybe it was because he was too little to understand somethings, but he would keep him talking. Then a smile. "So you did a good job right? Impressed the king and made the queen look better? Was she pretty as mommy?" Because well mommy was the prettiest. "Did grandpa ever make you do that?" Well...grandpa was a king.

"Yeah yeah, can't cook deserts...they're all fickle and what not. Besides...you can eat them when you're at Twilight. Look, you're eating them now in fact." Petting the boy's hair with a chuckle of some sorts, relaxing his posture some and almost half lounging. Though a roll of his eyes. "No you can't have a taste...you're not old enough for that yet. Maybe sometime special." And a look to Zahara, holding out his hand for the bottle. "I suppose a bit can't hurt."

"It was, yes. shadowknights are religious soldiers...though we follower darker powers. lots of egos and pride. and we did a fine job. got a lot of compliments on what we're making mommy actually. Made the queen look great. and no, she wasn't pretty as mommy."

A slight grin. the Queen, in his opinion, wasn't overly attractive...well...she was as attractive to him as slavegirl. something to look at, nothing more. though a slight chuckle at that last question though, before turning off the burner, picking up the pasta and pouring it into a strainer in teh sink.

"No, Kieran never made me cook."

then checking on the spagehtti sauce, stirring it a bit and back to the pasta, placing a heap on a plate on the tray.

"Pour that sauce on the pasta, try to get it even if you can."

and Malik went to breaking open crayfish, and outting the meat chunks into teh pasta and striing it up while Malikhai did that.

"and there we go. Underfoot Antipasta. and we're having spagehtti and meatballs."
PostPosted: Sun Dec 24, 2006 12:43 am

He giggled. Mommy was always saying that daddy had an ego that was too big sometimes and that Malikhai did too. He got it from daddy, yay! And see, no one was as pretty as mommy. It was a fact in his little head...until hormones hit of course. But that was a long way off. "Is being a shadowknight hard too? Who do they follow? Why's it gotta be dark? You're not all dark like that." Yes he knew daddy was a shadowknight, but not all that it entailed, nor the dieties involved yet. Piper had, not intentionally, not gone over dieties yet with the boy, more focused on getting his reading, writing, and math on a steady path first. Weren't questions cute? And he stole a noodle, munching on it. But he easily took to doing what he was told...or at least trying too, having that little look of concentration. A little look of accomplishment as it was proclaimed done, but then he grabbed a cinnamon stick and set it on the edge of the plate, looking smugly to his father. "No, now it's done. Now we gotta get her a drink, right?"

Pouting for a moment at being told he was too little, he brightened to hear he might on a special occassion. Maybe one would come tomorrow? He giggled, "Everybody has a strength Daddy. You're just real good with your hands in other things." Of course the child meant runes and building things. He reached for a cookie that had just been layed out and gave his father a grin, crumbs and all. This was exciting.

Zahara gave him a beaming smile and handed over the bottle. She choked on her own food when her son echoed her sentiments though he had no idea what that really meant. At least to her. He was referring to Sevilin's runing ability or his skill at building with blocks and things. She glanced up and met Sevilin's eyes for a moment and then began to laugh. She laughed so hard tears began rolling down her cheeks and she swiped them away quickly, getting herself back under control.

Zykariel looked highly confused for a moment. "What's so funny?"
PostPosted: Sun Dec 24, 2006 1:44 pm

He shook his head lightly at the child before using his sleeve to wipe the child's face clear of crumbs but then he looked over to Zahara at the sound of her choking. Then she did something she hadn't done in a while, looking him in the eyes and holding his gaze a moment. Hm, that look, her choking, child's comment...oh he got it. Wow.

Sevilin gave an awkward lopsided grin, not really sure what to think on that because hey...Zahara and him were on bad terms. Maybe she was just a little tipsy. Whatever the reason he couldn't help but like the image before him. She looked so carefree and willing to go any distance again. Not the jaded woman she had become. Did the Gods have to mock him so and tease his son as well?

Though the child's voice brought him out of his thinking and he took a drink from that bottle, setting it down between them all. "Zahara was probably laughing because you looked so funny with crumbs all over your face." He had gotten good at this cover up thing to the kid.

Zykariel squirmed and tried to shove his father's sleeve away but he persisted. He got up, picked up another cookie and decided to plop in his mother's lap instead. "I bet I did look funny."

She was finally under control and she let him plop then took a glance at the boy's face. "There's more than a crumb." Zahara shook her head and then licked her finger and leaned forward getting a bit of icing from one of those cookies off his face.

"Not the spit!" He rubbed at his cheek and scowled before leaping up from her lap too and plopping in the middle of the blanket, picking up a few more cookies and pouting.

He was in a more relaxed mood, somehow inferring that he need not be so uptight around Zahara at the moment. Maybe it was because he thought her slightly tipsy or the situation they were all in just made it seem like nothing bad had ever happened between them all. Thus as the boy pouted from both parents trying to clean him, Sevilin sat up some.

"Oh come now, it's just mom spit. It cleans anything." Giving his child that one eyebrow raised look. "You don't want to be clean right now? Alright then, get yourself dirty...just means you have to have a bath tonight. And if you don't want a bath tonight...well then you're gonna have to reverie in your own bed. I can't have someone who's dirty with dirt and cookies in my bed." The tone of his voice light and playful, not serious.

Sneaking a hand over to the child from behind and tickling at his ribs. "You know how I am about clean. Of course I can't have you all pouty in my bed either, but I can fix that." Thus going about ticking both the child's sides.

He just shook his head and kept pouting. "No baths. I don't like baths." But he wasn't pouty for long when his father started to tickle him. Gales of laughter began to echo around the clearing and he tried to squirm away from his father but he was too little. "Mommy! Help me!"

She watched the boys play and a sense of longing filled her. In another plane, another time, another world she might have joined in. She and Sevilin might even have double teamed the little boy until he was laughing so hard he almost had a tummy ache. Then they'd soothe him with cake or cookies and lots of hugs. But she couldn't. She froze when he called out for her with a title he'd never used before. And she decided to indulge herself in the fun just this once. Crawling over on her knees, she reached down and grabbed the little boy, pulling him away from his father's relentless fingers.

"He was still giggling and he leaned back against her and whspered in her ear. "We gotta get him now. You hold him and I'll tickle." He launched himself at Sevilin's chest, knocking the drow to the ground since he was relaxed and not paying attention. "Come on Mommy! Now, get him!"

Zahara threw back her head and laughed at the sight of the two of them and she shook her head. "Alright, I'm coming." She leaned over and held Sevilin's shoulders down so the child could get his revenge, her face rather close to his. Hmm, this coudl get awkward shortly.

Zykariel gave a whoop of excitement and reached for his sides and began poke tickling him all over his chest and sides. "Ha! Told you I'd get you back someday Daddy!"
PostPosted: Sun Dec 24, 2006 2:52 pm

"Those are the terms of the deal, no deal no go and you sleep with the thing under your bed!" Though he knew that wouldn't upset the boy...because they both knew that there was nothing under there that was just a ploy to get attention. Though he was a tad bit surprised as the boy was taken from him and then he had launched himself at his father...and yes, Sevilin did fall back some. Half from being relaxed and well...half from not wanting to hurt the child by just sitting there like a brick wall.

Though he had ignored the first calling of the title from the boy, thinking him merely being in the moment, but when he did it again, Sevilin didn't know what to think. How would Zahara react to that? How would Zykariel feel if she took it badly...or if she took it well? But he didn't have too much time to ponder on that as suddenly he felt pressure on his shoulders and he raised his eyes to be looking into hers. Just great...

There wasn't much tickling to be done though to Sevilin...for one he wasn't ticklish and for another he was waering chainmail. Yes good old Sevilin always wearing chainmail. But he was stuck staring at those eyes a moment, giving a lopsided grin before he seemed to catch something negative in her own eyes and he forced his away to his son, quickly catching the boy with his hands and holding him up in the air some, or at least as far as he could with his shoulders pinned. "I'm cheating." Holding the boy with one hand on his stomach now, moving the other to pull down the collar of hsi tunic a little, showing the boy the chainmail. "You can't defeat me by tickling."

Zahara knew Sevilin wasn't ticklish and had a pretty good idea that he was wearing chainmail. He always wore chainmail unless he was randomly relaxing and had his tunic off. But she met his eyes and an unspoken message seemed to pass between them before she realized that she was telling him all sorts of things and her gaze skittered away. She sat back on her heels and released the strong shoulders since it was pointless to continue tickling him.

"Aww Daddy! No fair!" He was almost straddling his father now and he crossed his arms. "I'll get you while you're in reverie one night Daddy." He was unaware of what was going on between his parents. To his mind the picnic had been a wonderful seuccess. Zara had even responded well to the title of 'Mommy.' Maybe she was ready then?

She could see that the boys were well in hand and she scooted back a bit then picked up the bottle and took a long swig. Yup, awkward movement.
