Nope, game *hugs back* I've been doing a Let's Play of it on FB for my friends. My girlfriend bought me it lately and I've been wanting it for ages, so as soon as I said I had it, numerous people were like RECORD YOURSELF PLAYING IT LOL. And I'm easily startled.
It's more psychological horror than anything else, I'd say, judging by the later parts [yeah, I watched a full LP before playing it myself XD] but there ARE some jump scares. Not to mention the monsters are hideous growling...things. Remember the picture of a Gatherer I linked a few pages back? That's one of them. But the big thing about Amnesia is, there's no way to defend yourself from them. You have absolutely no weapons whatsoever, so literally all you can do is run and hide like a little girl. There's also a sanity metre implemented as well, so you need to try and manage that too. If you stay in the darkness for too long, the character's [Daniel] sanity drains, and once your sanity gets too low, it makes you a lot more easy to spot by the monsters. Looking at the monsters straight on also decreases his sanity.
BUT. In order to prevent being found, you have to extinguish your lantern and hide. So it looks as though it can be really tricky to successfully hide and not go batshit at the same time. I haven't had THAT much difficulty yet because there are only two cinematic Gatherer spottings I've had to deal with so far [and the second one I missed seeing completely because I blubbed and ran in the opposite direction LOL].
I think...I've had a good scare most vids so far. Like, that very first Gatherer cinematic, it's just patrolling around the other end of the corridor you're cowering in, but the kicker is, it won't STOP patrolling until you very cautiously advance towards it. Then before you get close enough for it to notice you, it buggers off, and I was doing it like 'dfggkjfg I don't wanna do it go away mrgh *whimper*'. Oh and a barrell fell on my head too. Knocked Daniel out and I screamed a bit ;x. And then this afternoon there was a roar followed shortly by the door I had left open slamming shut. ...I may have screamed again
