Figure something else out, I suppose. I don't have much choice. sweatdrop

They refused to give me additional grant money, claiming my Mom makes so much I shouldn't really even NEED assistance for school. Nevermind the fact that I'm the one paying for everything I do and I barely make enough to live on my own and get a car someday. -_-

The whole grant process is bloody stupid if you ask me. It doesn't matter how much your parents make if they're not going to support you.

I had the same issue in trying to get funds for my Japan Practicum. My parents supposedly make too much money for me to get a student loan. Of course no one takes into account bills and other such strains on money.

Exactly! They flat out said, "Well if you get married or get pregnant we can give you more money. Or if your Mom gets denied for an additional loan, we'll give you $4,000 more." stare

Chels: Soo sorry. eek I guess you'll have to save more or something. *scratches head*

I finally got my pictures of Deirdre developed and uploaded the nicer ones in my LJ photo album. I also have pictures of my other dolls and my shy kitty too in the album. Here is the link, I hope it works here.

It is very hard to take pictures with a disposable camera. I will have to ask around and find the best way to get good pics.

Well, when you make roughly $1200 a month and you pay your mom about $700 a month, your laptop is $200 a month, and you pay for gas for the people that drive you around at about $100/month...and you pay for your own groceries...probably another $60-$100/month...its rather hard to save up to be able to spend $1400/month and not feel it.

Ah, the pinch of finances. crying I could not get any grants or help with college. An auto accident settlement, tiny though it was..was the only reason I could go. sweatdrop Wish there was some help for you.

*shrug* I'm used to it, really. I've been on the verge of poverty my whole life after all. ^^; We thought maybe I'd be able to attend in regardless when my sister got over $3K in grants for being poor. No such luck with me, though.

More cute outfits...and I would love to have them..so few gold. sweatdrop

Gotta go and get more. biggrin heart blaugh

Chels: The social and financial climate has changed so very much since I went to college, and when I was a kid too. sweatdrop Everything is so very expensive that most kids won't be able to go to college. I wonder how my nephew and little cousin will afford it. I think my nephew won't be able to go. crying

The way college costs keep rising is kind of scary. I'll be paying back my student loans from undergrad and grad school until I'm about 55. If I hadn't gone to grad school, I would be half-way through paying back my loans.

I'd recommend searching online for scholarships and grants. There's like an entire website devoted to grants and scholarships. Now if I could just remember what it was called.

Oshun: That's a good idea. eek biggrin I wish I had had those kind of rescources when I went. crying

I wonder when the slots will be back open. I miss them. crying It was such fun to play it when I got tokens. biggrin

Emeraude - For me to attend AiO, it would end up roughly $16K a year plus $2,500 in equipment and software [excluding books]. That's for 13 credits a quarter and lab fees each quarter.

It's true, college prices are just crazy right now. I was lucky in that there was a price freeze on tuition for the years I attended. Books were still insanely high though, just my Japanese ones were $200.

Last time I checked tuition costs for the course I want to take at AI were $10 000/year.

I can kind of understand why that school is so expensive since for the most part you're using state of the art stuff.

Oy. eek crying Too expensive. crying I guess that's why so many people have such expensive student loans to pay off now a days. eek xp

emo Oh the good old days of the 80's when things weren't so expensive and people actually could make a living wage. cheese_whine

Seldaara - For AiO its $362/credit, $100 lab fee per online lab, $100 enrollment/credit lock in fee, and $50 for application processing fees. Once you get accepted and pay the $100 for enrollment they lock in the credit price so that while you attend you're paying the same price per credit. I would have been taking 13 credits per quarter - enough to get my associate's in three years and have several credits for Video Game/Art Design knocked out as well. [We had it worked out where I would be taking the courses required for graphic design that were also required in video game/art design so I wouldn't be years at my bachelor's after getting my associate's in graphic design.]

For my eventual degree of choice - equipment costs reach $3,500. Excluding books for courses. sweatdrop
