Malik was listening, and taking it in...defenseless? completely defenseless?
"what do you mean by defenseless..as in I could not defend her or myself even if the walls were coming down..or that I could, but only if this communion was severed..and judging by how it seems to work..it woudl prove quite traumatic to do so."
That of course ment if they did this..there coudl be no threats to them. Nothing that coudl show up and slay them as they sat, no one to disturb them. No wonder a Tier'Dal never preformed this ritual. how many countless assassins woudl be waiting for just that chance. how many siblings woudl stab you during that and take the next highest station in the family.
"This ritual seems highly dangerous to anyone that has even so much as one enemy that can pick and choose a time to strike."

That was the reaction he had been expecting and thus didn't look at all surprised about it. "Completely physically defenseless. Exactly as you put it...communion is a sort of tranced state...and leaves one completely vulnerable...probably more mentally so seeing as the mind is completely unguarded as well." And he held up a finger. "But there is a loop hole to that...well not really a loop hole, more of an affect created by communing minds. Ones in communion are defended against being spied upon, either mentally or physically if no one knows of where they are partaking in this little event. A sort of invisible barrier surrounding them. They project a mental shield that keeps discovery to a minimum. Of course, if someone knows time and location of a communion, that won't do any good." A pause to let that sink in more before he continued. "Yes, dangerous it may be without taking precautions, but it truly is something that is of benefit. Becoming intimately acquainted with others' habits, ways of thinking. Even fighting styles, bonded elves after communion can often fight in perfect harmony with on another. It all has a way of working out to advantage despite the initial danger."
A nod at her father and a look to Malik. Perhaps one of the reasons she had never mentioned such an action to him. If there was one thing he hated it was being left defenseless to the world and all it had to offer in a manner of wanting to do him, or her for that matter, harm. And when you were also on the go a lot, you had not time to stop and play around in each others' spirits and the like. Though she had to admit she was learning too. She knew how it worked but not the specifics beyond that...and the way it seemed, the chance of it happening did look indeed slim to none...a threat always seemed to loom over the two no matter where they were...not that she minded, she wasn't afraid of that at all. It was just life kicking them to remind them it was there.

"It's dangerous, but the benifits outweigh the danger involved. and unless someone knows exactly when and where, we are for teh most part, unseeable to magical or physical inquiry?"
A look to Piper..and back to Keiran.
"How long do these communions last? are there preparations for them that need to be done in a timely fashion before hand?"
The danger seemed minimal...and if it was so fufilling, and did so much to enhance thier lives..it very well woudl be worth the risks involved.

"Exactly right. Keep it secret and you're safe. Thinking goes that they are so entranced by one another that their minds project the shield out of wanting the communion to be disrupted." Ah Malik was an elf who looked before he leaped, that was for sure...and a rather nice balance to Piper's leap and hope for the best look on things. "Well...there's no set time limit on communions...but generally those who have never engaged in one before let time pass as they may...depends on how much one actually knows about the other. Other who have done it before can learn to disengage when they wish...after all, there's far less new territory to cover. But it is a rather draining act on the psyche and even the physical body. It shouldn't be taken lightly or done to frequently...through my own learnings I've found that a communion should be engaged in no more than once a week and probably less so than that...it shouldn't be taken lightly or frequently." And a light nod to nothing in particular. "As far as preparations...well nothing in a timely fashion, but just the initial getting to relax, completely being at ease, having a place where you don't have to worry, a haven if you will. It's all about being able to open up really."
Okay...so the more he talked and the more Malik questioned, she could see that it wasn't as simple as she thought it to be first hand. Complete trust and the complete removal of judgment and the like, and the willing-ness to expose oneself to the other as well as the world. Another look to Malik, trying to read into his questioning a bit. It was always a little hard to tell when he was either questioning for or against something. "Problem is we never seem to get a break from anything. Be it something else or ourselves."

"That can change piper, now that we're pretty well established here. once Dimitri's fleet is crippled, we can arrange a time and place for this communion. but I will be making very sure we are safe form harm during it. at least to the upmost of my ability."
Yes, malik was questioning for it. it seemed a very important surface ritual. and she had alreayd told him she woudl stop her wnderlust, and even stay in teh darkness of the underfoot for him. the least he coudl do was give her this communion ceremony.

Piper looked at him with her head tilted to the side slightly and a slight smile...she was trying not to laugh. Did he just mention the phrase to her that he often countered or believe didn't just happen so quickly. "Things change? Never thought I'd hear you openly state that..." It indeed was humoring in it's own right to her. After all, the first time she told him that he flat out denied it. But of course she was being considerate to him as well about this and got that serious look about her. "Only if you're sure about it Malik." Even if he had just more less stated he wanted to do it, she still questioned it. Though that was nothing new with her, she always seemed to be double checking with him.
It was endearing really...the way they seemed to accommodate for one another, question things even though answers seemed simple and visible enough. And he gave a nod to them both then. "I say as long as you keep your want to do this private from anyone else and also pick a rather secluded place then you'd be just fine. But I don't suggest even thinking about it when you've got an inkling of anything negative in your mind or for that matter actually impending."

"I'm quite sure, Piper. You're giving up a great deal for me. I can give you this in return for your sacrifice. You are worth any risk."
Though he nodded and listened to Kieran.
"So no fighting and no trying this before I go killing someone or before open war or conflict."
A small grin to Piper.
"Hear that? no fighting. so no yelling at me for doing things in your best interest like making you learn swordplay or grounding you form climbing trees after you nearly hanged yourself, or after you near broke your arm in a fall. And no yelling if I threaten to bottle that horse of yours for causing said incidents."

Piper smiled at him, watching him a moment. Indeed she was giving up a lot for him, not that she minded but he seemed to know it all to well. But of course as he started at his poking fun, she took to pouting slightly. "That's just not fair...you have more ammo against me than I do against you."
Kieran suppressed a laugh. Truly remarkable together, these two. It was interesting to see, fiery little Piper taking Malik to challenge at free will and sheer want to do so. Most never looked at the shadow of a drow let along challenged one. And then proud, calculating Malik taking Piper to equal challenge and not giving into her on her tactics, even goading the fight out of her it seemed. No wonder she couldn't find what she wanted back in Andal, it was never there to begin with. "Seems you keep quite the time keeping her together...and I never knew Serino was such a trouble maker."

"Apparently the Zephyr doesn't like being ignored or not played with. from what I was told, Piper was in her trees, and her tried to 'nudge' her to playing nad she instead fell. that is what got her hurt and her arm nearly broken. and her first tree grounding. the second time that I'm aware of, she was climbing an apple tree. he wanted to beat her to an apple puched past her, she lost her balance. her collar caught on a branch. luckly the branch broke before she hanged by it."
A glance at Kieran.
"And I've threaten him with bottling several times for such little mishaps. then of course she yells at me for it and acts like it's all her fault. But I beleive another reason you wanted to talk was to see Neriak through the eyes of your daughter. I'ma bit interested as well, though I know she wasn't fond of the place."

She glared slightly at him. "You don't have to tell him like that...besides, you weren't there and it was my fault both those times." Defendant as ever of her companion that was for sure. And she crossed her arms in a motion of saying she was defending her own point of the matter. "And fond isn't the word at all for it really." More along the lines of despised. Sure, she wouldn't pass it up if she was able to go back and choose again, but that didn't mean she liked the place at all.
A raised eyebrow at that. Serino was quite the Zephyr in his own right. A bit more wild perhaps in his ways...almost nothing like Nerian. "Bottling them...hm...I never thought of that kind of thing...then again I'm not one to catch Zephyrs or their halfbreed kin either." Kieran gave a casual shrug and turned prompted attention to Piper.
Piper tapped her fingers on the table, seeming to be searching for the right words it seemed. Why did he have to go turn attention on her? But never mind that now what was done was done. "It was...a tense atmosphere really. And sometimes an almost eerie quiet. And there was that vibe of...oh how I wish to kill you at this moment simply because you are you and if you didn't belong to him then I would..." Well wasn't that just a lovely little sentence. "But, it did have it's...good...aspects." Was good even the word? Probably not. "It's a beautiful city...in a dark twisted way but none the less so. Of course that didn't make it any less dangerous...as I was reminded many many many times by a certain someone that stepping into the wrong place in any part of the city could easily get me killed." A look to Malik at that one...boy did she really hear it often...then again she always seemed to be doing something that got them unpleasant looks. "All in one word...I would call it restricting really."

Aella tapped a toe on the floor. She was getting annoyed. She wanted to move already! There as nothing worse than waiting to kill someone. She bounced the stone acorns in her hand, impatient. Her movemenst wear becoming agitated to the point of reclessness.
Follow orders, don't follow orders...foloow orders, don't follow orders.
"If I don't hear that signal in fifteen minutes, I'm going in myself." She began to pace, counting off the minutes.

In a dark and dripping place, somewhere in Deep Water...
A man...we think he's a man....heavily swathed in cloaks and scarves, hums a little tune to himself as he swirls a clear liquid in a vial. As far as one could tell, he seemed happy, or perhaps excentric. The room around him was dark, and slimy water dripped slowly down the walls. The place reaked of dekay.
The place was pretty empty. No chairs, no instruments, no tables...nothing but a large sheet of stretched hide hanging on the North wall. What kind of hide? Human of course, what else? Who's was it? That was a secret. Oh yes.
The only other person in the room was the Oracle, Meilikki. Her nightdress was a tad torn, and hanging slightly off of one shoulder. Her hair was tussled, but that seemed to be about the only discomfot she was in....besides of course, the metal hooks that held her eyes open. She stood stock still, not breathing, not moving, and certianly not blinking. But that was the way it had to be.
Around her feet was a star scetched out in blood, dried and black and covered with dust. What looked like a mirror, about an inch high and an inch wide, was sitting on an angle on the South wall. A needle thin beam of light shone from it to the back of Meilikki's head.
On the human hide on the wall, there played a series of shadows. Fleeting glances of white and black...nothing but charcole smuges moving across an artists paper. The man watched these imagis intently as he swirled the vile, still humming.
Without making a sound, he moved over to the woman, ran a boney finger along her collar bone, her jaw line, in an almost loving but possesive fashion. He talked to her like she was an adored pet.
"Is the little Meilikki getting tired? Awe, poor dear. We can't have that now can we?" Gently but forcibley, he tipped up her chin and emptied the vile down the woman's throat. She didn't swallow, wasn't allowed to, instead the liquid dripped down her throat, into her stomach. It burned all the way down, even as if found it's way into her blood stream. Her only respons was a shakey tear.
The man whipped away the tear with his boney finger. "There, there. Feel better now don't we Meilikki?" He brought his shrouded face close to hers, his rasping voice grating and chilling. "We have lots to do, you and I!"

Malik listened and chuckled lightly.
"Oh it wasn't quite that bad. just had to remember that some places you couldn't go. even some Tier'Dal weren't allowed. like my guild, the Dead. only shadowknights and Necromancers could go there. or the assassin's guild."
Simon carried his daughter into the fortress, and set her down.
"Go give those to your brothers. I'm going to relax a moment here..this place holds many memories I need to get out of my mind before we cna stay here, little one."

She had never asked what had happened here, she was too afraid of the answers. Whenever she tohught about it, it made her eyes get wet. So she tried her best to awlays be cheerful, then no one would have to feel bad.
"Okay Daddy!" She plopped to the floor, spun in a little circle with her arms spread out like a bird, and dashed up the stairs. She tried tot ake the stairs two at a time, but her legs couldn't reach, so she triped and banged up her knee. She didn't even cry out, but continued running as fast as she could up the steps.
She flung open the door to their shared room and she sipped...took a leap...bounced off the bed...and onto Onyx's back! She giggled. "Gaurdian Onyx! I'm here!" She laughed.

"If I recall there was a lot of 'don't talk and don't move...get on the horse, stay on the horse and don't talk'. A lot of 'don't do this'." She shrugged lightly, looking to Malik with a somewhat sharp look. "You can't say that you weren't the one playing the slave/pet game, were you?", before it faded to he normal at ease look. She had no drive to fight about it because there was no point in it...and she really just wasn't in the mood to fight with him. "But I guess I enjoyed myself."
"Sounds like the typical drow city setting. You have your rules, they're expected to be followed. Everyone is supposed to know their rank and place. All in all, it's a good system when you strip it down to bear bones. But flesh it out in the ways of the drow and it's not such a good thing." But then a look to Malik. "No offense to you Malik..."
