::Cora hears an entrance behind her, excited to see who it might be, she turns:::

Good day Citizen Bard. How is it that you feel? :::she smiles:::
PostPosted: Sun Nov 07, 2004 9:54 am

*bard blinks*

O-officer Serenis? Funny seeing you here. Are you waiting for a plane also?

*he slumps into a chair*

Do you know what time it is? Don't want to miss my flight.

:::She snickered to herself:::

Your thoughts must not be in the right place my friend...Don't worry about your schedule here. Besides, my clock mechanism never works when I'm here...can you guess why?

*Bard bolds up straight, suddenly totally awake.*

I would suppose it's because I'm not in the airport anymore.

*he yawns and stretches, then he feels the stubbly growth on his chin*

Delayed for 48 hours and counting. Hotels booked for the holidays. No where to go but the terminals. Worst blizzard in 20 years they said.

*He scratches his head.*

I certainly hope travel is more accomodating in the 31st century.

Oh, it is travle you speak of. From what I learn of the past, our travel is much more efficient. Everyday transports are mass based, and solar chargable. They glide on hypomagnetic tracks which span across local area networks. They reach speeds of multiple machs, up to 8 mach for wide area networks.

How were you traveling?
PostPosted: Sun Nov 07, 2004 10:42 am

Badly. I haven't gotten there yet.

*he rakes his fingers through his hair*

Common commercial travel of the 20th century is done using jet powered aircraft. It's reliable, fast, relatively inexpensive, and efficient. Except when Mother nature decides to rear her head.

Fossil fuels...Those depleted thousands years ago where I am from. And it has done the planet some good. Our energy sources are renewable now. Mainly solar, a few kinetic energy translative forms of power are still used, but not as commonly...

:::She thought about the polution that must have existed:::

I fear I would have trouble breathing the same atmostphere as there is in your world.

:::But his world must not be all bad...I have learned so much. She sighed, lost in thought for a moment:::

Your world seems so archaic compaired to mine...yet I am torn. I have lived the way I have for 23 years, and have believed that it is the pinacle of human existance. Yet, the things I have learned here lead me to believe that I have only lived a half life. In your world there is physical contact, wine, and cake...images created by the hand passed from thoughts in the mind, not mechanically or photosynthetically. You have possesions to cherish...where as I as an officer may not even smile while others can see me. I'm beginning to wonder, why I am alive...

:::She stopped there...she was rambling on:::

Forgive me! I have never dispensed so much personal information like that. It was highly improfessional. :::She started to feel embarassed:::

*Bard steps closer to Cora and takes her hands in his* Officer Serenis... Cora... May I call you Cora?

I don't believe there is a pinnacle of mankind. The moment we begin to think we have reached the peak, we are already beginning to slide backwards. The Romans, the French under Napolean, the British Empire at the height of its power. It's all fleeting. And one day, my country may be but a memory, and my words, nothing but anthropological data.

*he releases her hands, and he begins to pace thoughtfully* Look around you. We are standing in a place more wonderful than I could have ever imagined. We are here. I refuse to believe that we are here without reason. Perhaps I have come here to find something I did not have in my time. Perhaps you have as well.

*he turns to face her, his hands clasped behind his back* If you, a respected officer of the law, have found such delight in the wonders of the past. Perhaps the world is ready to share them again?

:::She is unsure how to react to her hand in his, but she took it in context of a comforting gesture, or perhaps one to emphasize the requirement for attention, the way Torment would always thumb her chin:::

Y...Yes, you may call me Cora. If we may associate informally, I will call you Bard. :::She would have smiled, but her thoughts were running from what Bard had said:::

I am certain that I come here with a purpose. What that is, I cannot be sure. Thus far I feel it is my duty to save Officer Tacitus from the evil that has infested him...but my greatest fear is that once that purpose is served here, I will return to my time indefinately. :::She clutched the locket, resting upon her chest:::

It is not the world that has seen fit to expose me to the wonders of the past...it is the Brink of Time that sees fit to do this.

:::When I leave here, I have no one to live for, but everyone to die for. That is truly the only reason I am alive. She could not say it aloud. It scared her that she even thought it:::

Cora.... *Bard looks at her thoughtfully*

Everyone seems to want something of you. You talk of duty, and obligation, and responsiblity.

Cora, what is it that you want?

*As he says it, however, he fades out*

:::Cora's thoughts stopped dead in their tracks. There was no fathomable answer...yet. She turned to ponder:::

No one has ever asked me that before. ::She stood, dumbfounded::

I do not know. I have never truly wanted. I....have enjoyed all the things I have learned here. All the company I have had...and what I want...is...

:::She found the words:::

I want to be here. I want to learn all the things there are to know that I have been missing. I want to know them all! And I want to know all the people! I want them to be my people.... but...

:::She did not even understand her own desires:::

it sounds strange to me... I want to know all the people and yet...it would make me happy to know one person. I don't know why one person would be a desire if I could know so many... but, I do...

:::When she turned around to face Bard...he was no longer there. She sighed, and decided she would go to her room to be alone for a little while, maybe he'd return soon:::

*Maggie flickers in, and looks around* Hmm . . . 'tis empty.

*takes a seat and rests her arm on the tabletop, propping her chin up on her hand and staring thoughtfully out into the black void of nothingness*
