Monster High - The School Grounds

He glanced up every so often to watch Doriana and Motthew, a little baffled to see she still looked sad. She was dancing with the boo she liked wasn't she? So why wasn't she happy? She should be smiling and having a great time shouldn't she?
Maybe he had this all wrong, maybe she didn't like the new kid at all. Oh dear, what was he supposed to do?

He'd promised himself he wouldn't ruin her night, even if he found her frustrating to be around, that didn't mean he wanted to hurt her.

Someone nudged him in the back. The purple haired troll girl had returned with a rather anxious looking Jewels.

"Get over there and explain yourself." the troll hissed, nudging him toward the dance floor.

"W.. what?"

"GO." She wasn't taking no for an answer and Ronan nodded and hurried away before she jabbed him in the ribs again.

He waited till Motthew and Doriana came near.

"Can I.. .cut in?" He asked, indicating that he really needed to speak with his date.

"S.. she said she'd write theretraction" Jewels announced, moving to Felix's side and smiling softly.
"Sorryaboutthat... I... Hopefully Marcelinewillunderstand.. " She still hadn't spotted either Marceline or Rory, where had they gotten to? Maybe they weren't coming?

"I don't want another ghoulmadatme..."

"It'll be fine Jewels, go dance already." Bridget insisted.

Jewels nodded and looked up at Felix.
"S.. shall we?"  

[Motthew Clendenin]

Motthew glanced at Ronan. He looked at Doriana and let her go with a smile. "Sure." he smiled at Ronan and patted his shoulder "She is your date, after all." he chuckled and walked off towards the food.  

[Ascreama Poweurgh]

Ascreama watched the monsters dance and she sighed as the slower music began to play, drawing the happy couples in closer to their dates. She drummed her gooey fingers on the table top.

"All I need now is some fangsome monster to sweep me off my feet so we can dance the night away.." She oozed sadly. The food was great, the music was uhmazing and she was surrounded by friends, but all Ascreama needed to make the night complete was a bootiful boo on her arm. And maybe a kiss ohmyglob

Meme gazed into a hand-held mirror and applied more lipstick, making sympathetic noises as her friend longed for love. In the corner of her eye, she spotted a figure in a midnight black suit slowly approached the table and Meme snapped the compact shut.
"Hey, isn't that the warlock from your fangime club?"

Ascreama looked up at him and nodded, "Yeah, it's Archy. I wonder what he wan.." At that moment, one of the spot lights swept across him, illuminating his blood red cape and bone white glasses.

Meme raised an eyebrow as Archy stopped in front of the blob. Ascreama blushed magenta as he offered a red rose.
"You're looking subslime tonight. Would you care for a dance?"
Ascreama glanced at the clown, who nodded approvingly. She stood, accepting the rose and took his hand. "You look great tonight.."

As the pair headed to the twinkling dance floor, Ascrema looked over her shoulder at the clown, who gave her a thumbs up and grinned broadly. She was sad to leave her friend dateless at the table, but at least for tonight she'd found her Hexedo Mask.

"Monsters're dancing already!" Kai nudged Demona. "Without the Scream King and Queen kicking things off, even!"

That didn't seem quite right, but also, it kinda did. Monster High didn't stand on ceremony as much as it did on being yourself, and it seemed like high scream king Rory hadn't even shown up yet.

"Hm...you know what? As intermediary stand-by substitute Scream King, since I totally sat in the chair and that's totally my title now, I declare the dance begun!" Kai held his hand out for Demona. "Should we hit the dance floor, intermediary stand-by substitute Scream Queen?"

[Shadeaux D Gloom]

"So when exactly were you planning on introducing me to some of your friends?" Lilith spoke up, motioning towards the dance floor where several kids were already kicking the evening's dancing off. "I mean we've been here all this time and all we've done is sit in your shadows."

Shad turned to her, looking stricken, and Lilith sighed and held up he rhands.

She said, "Lovely shadows as they are, of course. It'd just be nice to meet some of these kids. I'm the only normie here!"

"Whaddya talk?" Shad objected. "You know Cleo's gang of ghouls. In fact you spent the first twenty minutes tonight with her, comparing dress labels!"

"The labels are the best part!" Lilith stated simply, to which Shad could only roll his eyes -- not that she could tell behind his shades.

"And don't roll your eyes at me!"

Or could she?

"How could you tell?" Shadeaux yelped.

"Because I know you, Shadeaux Gloom. Now come on." She grabbed his arm and led him out toward the dance floor. "Like it or not, we are going to mingle."

The horror!

Shad struggled but that normie girl Lilith had quite the grip! hey walked out in between the couples when another couple crossed their immediate path...

"Hi Kai... KAI!" Shad flinched, startled by his own outburst. He cleared his throat. "I mean... Kai! I want you to meet somebluddy!"

Shad held a hand toward Lilith.

"This is the ghoul, er, girl I told you werecats about on the creepover. Lilith Von Helscream."

Kai and Demona were cut off from making it to the dance floor by Shad and his date walking into their path. Not wanting to be rude, of course, Kai stopped so Shad could give him the low-down on his special ghoul...er, girl.

"Kai! I want you to meet somebluddy!" Shad gushed about the stately, tall blonde standing with him. She was dressed in a tan, leopard-print dress that was cut high up on the thigh. In a nod to the dance theme, she seemed to have covered every inch of visible skin in glitter blush, giving her a sparkling effect that was almost...vampire-esque. She tipped her monocle a bit to look at Kai and Demona. There was something weirdly familiar about her...

"Sure! Hey, it's nice to meet you. I'm Kai Merha, and this is my ghoulfriend, Demona."

"Charmed." The girl answered politely, giving the two of them a nod.

"This is the ghoul, er, girl I told you werecats about on the creepover. Lilith Van Helscream." Shad stammered, obviously not used to grimtroducing people. Kai's eye twitched.

"Van...Helscream....?" Kai stammered out. "That's....uh....interesting."

"Yes it is, isn't it? My family has a long history...interacting...with monsters."

"It sure does." Kai said under his breath. "So...related to Dr. Emmett Van Helscream?"

Kai ventured the name cautiously. There had been two Van Helscreams who had crossed paths with the students of Monster High previously. Administrator Van Helscream had been considered a much-lauded monster researcher and even usurped control of the school briefly before being revealed to be a fraud who was conspiring to make monster races war amongst themselves to keep them from uniting against normies. That had all taken place before Kai had even come to Monster High, but all of the students knew about that.

The second Van Helsing had been Dr. Emmett Van Helsing, his older brother. He had been a mad scientist, much like Kai's own father. They were colleagues, even. Dr. Merha and Dr. Van Helsing had been working together on monster genetics, but for very different purposes. While Dr. Merha had wanted to help monsterkind, Dr. Van Helsing had wanted to 'cure' them all of their monsterism. And he'd tried to enlist (meaning: enslave) Kai to help him!

Not a great hexperience, overall.

"Emmett? Yes...unfortunately." Lilith gave a dismissive wave. "Look, I know full well how this school has dealt with my family in the past. And I....regrettably...may have believed the same things as my uncles long ago, too. But now I see that monsters and normies can and SHOULD live together in harmony. That includes attending each other's social functions, don't you agree?"

"I suppose so..." Kai nodded. He still wasn't sure how he felt about Lilith, but she did seem to be saying all of the right things.

"Which of COURSE means that Shad is going to be my date at the New Salem Homecoming Dance next week! Right, Shaddykins?" Lilith grabbed Shad's cheek and gave it a playful pinch as she winked at Kai and Demona.  

[Shadeaux D Gloom]

"Sure, I can...waitaminuteWHAT!?"

Shad looked back and forth between Lilith and Kai, a panic stricken expression on his face. (In Shad's defense, he seems to have that look a lot.) Shad stopped his 'tennis head' syndrome to stare at Lilith from behind his shades and started shaking.

"I can't go to a normie Tombcoming! I'd be the only monster there!"

"So? Lilith smiled, placing a hand regally on her shoulder and staring her monster beastie, er, bestie down. "I'm the only normie at a monster dance."

Lilith shook her head.

"Logic isn't one of your strong suits."

"Yeah, well..." Shad stammered brilliantly. "When was the last time a monster chased a normie with torches and pitchforks?"

Lilith sighed and rolled her eyes.

"That was then, 'Shaddykins'." She answered simply. "I'd like to believe we're past that after that big Halloween party in the catacombs. And besides..."

She slipped an arm around his shoulder ... and pulled him into a sideheadlock.

"Technically you already accepted." She smiled and pointed at Kai and Demona. "And they're my witnesses."

Shad could only whimper.

She gave an unsure glance at Motthew before turning around, placing her hands on Ronan's shoulders, and breathed slowly. She tried to find what to say, but she was empty once again. She glanced up at him, sounding casual.

"So, what's up?"

Jewels Underne

"S.. shall we?"

"Ms. Underne, a moment please." Jewels and Felix were interrupted before they could abscond to the dance floor by none other than the Headless Headmistress herself. She was still wearing the same riding uniform the students were used to her wearing every day, though she had splurged on a purple coat made of the shiniest, most sparkly material imaginable. As she moved through the clots of students gabbing or heading to the dance floor, she sparkled and shimmered like a disco ball.

"Ms. Underne, usually we start the Tombcoming dance off by presenting the Scream Queen and Scream King and allowing me to give an official speech. And I do SO love giving an official speech." The Headmistress seemed almost a bit...pouty...about missing a chance to give a speech. "And so, I must ask...where is your Scream King?"

He tried very hard not to step on her toes, but he wasn't lying when he told her he couldn't dance. Two left feet was an understatement, he had zero rhythm.
He resorted to just sorta swaying.

"Uh.. " He hadn't really thought this far ahead. "You left, then you were with Motthew but you looked unhappy. I... did something wrong didn't I?"

She shook her head, sighing a little. "N-No not exactly... I just... I was there when you complimented Meme. And it just sounded so much more... Natural for you to compliment her, and whenever you say something to me it sounds so forced..."

She closed her eyes and sighed. Her tone sounded almost like she was going to cry, but she cleared her throat and continued to stare at the wooden grim floor. "Ronan... Am I really THAT bad?"  

[Jewels Underne]

Jewels stared up at Headmistress Bloodgood, clearly a little intimidated by her presence.

"I... I... " She gaped for a few moments before managing to compose herself enough to squeak. "Idon'tknow... Rory isn't here yet.. maybe he isn't coming..." she chewed her lip, then blurted out. "Thatstoryin the GoryGazette isn'ttrue miss... I told Iris... it'snottrue. We aren't a couple, I meanI barelyknowhim... I don'tknowwhereheis.. or how to contact him... " She gasped for breath. "I'm so sorry miss... " She felt like she was in some sort of trouble, was she supposed to have made sure Rory was here or something? "I.. I will find him."  

[HH Bloodgood]

"Well, I wouldn't expect you to be a couple just because you were both voted in." The Headmistress replied, moving deftly out of the way of Gil and Lagoona heading to the dance floor. "Imagine if Monster High required every ghoul and boo that had to interact with each other to instantly be a couple...what a frightmare!"

She turned sideways to avoid Heath being dragged by Abbey out onto the floor.

"Jewels, there are some monsters out there, who seem to think that just because a boo and a ghoul glance at each other, or breathe the same air, or are wearing the same colour, that they are somehow instantly a perfect pair. But really, you can't let those monsters dictate how you life your un-life. You need to find who is going to make YOU happy. It may not happen today, or even tomorrow, but I believe every monster has a special somemonster out there for them. It just make take centuries to find them." HH gave out the slightest hint of a sigh.

"However...if you could unbury the Scream King so we could get this production underway, it would be greatly uhhh-preciated. Thank you, Ms. Underne. And pardon me." With that, HH Bloodgood hexcused herself to stand closer to Archer the centaur and Nightmare...just to remind them that she was keeping an eye on them.
