LA beatmaker and Leaving Records head honcho Matthewdavid just recently dropped his ambient Mindflight cassette, and has now followed it up with another dose of prickly textures and deep drones in the form of his latest mixtape. Featuring a few unreleased tracks from the likes of Dntel, The Cyclist, and MNDSGN, as well as some bits from an "unlabeled world-fusion cassette," the 20-minute collage finds the producer further exploring his penchant for tape-saturated sounds and unearthing homegrown beats that seem plucked from a thrift shop in outer space.
“Quite early on during Devon Hansen, aka Lotide’s debut album, Moonless, there’s a sampled female voice that informs the listener that she has a particular way of recalling her subconscious, saying: “I remember my dreams by what colour they are.” And while it might seem like an incredibly pretentious quote to use to introduce or lead you into an album, it actually works as a catch all term when you hear the thing – a work that dips into gravelly musique concrete, heavy instrumental hip-hop and greyscale sheet noise all at once.”

NEEDLE EXCHANGE 126: AN EXCLUSIVE MIX BY ... ROOSEVELT///////
Roosevelt is a rising Cologne producer who has the support of folks like Superpitcher—a “Country Boy” cover is already on the way apparently—but has nothing to do with the city’s unofficial label, Kompakt. Not yet at least. He’s on the Joe Goddard-related Greco-Roman imprint for now instead, who released his breakout “Sea” single last year and will have an EP on the way once the planets align. In the meantime, here’s a sun-stroked, glitter-dusted idea of what to expect from Marius Lauber’s DJ tour, which starts this Saturday at PS1′s bullet-proof Warm Up series and manages to hit Boston, Brooklyn, San Francisco and L.A. in the week ahead….
