Julian was still laying on Ookami's back unconscious as Chloe ranted. A nurse ran up to them and gasped. She saw the blood that was on Julian's hands and immediately called for some Chansey to carry him off. The Nurse turned to Julian's pokemon and quickly healed them with some potions. "Sorry but the young man will require some additional medical attention. I assume you are traveling with him so please take care of his pokemon while he is being attended to." The Nurse Joy told Chloe before running off with Julian being carried by Chansey.Hizshi was feeling much better thanks to the potions and looked up at Chloe, his eyes Wary. 'I'm not sure how much Julian wants you to know about this, he is afraid you will worry about him..' Came Hizashi's voice in Chloe's mind. The rest Of Julian's pokemon crowded arounf Chloe, worried for Julian. 'He suffers damage everytime we get hurt in battle, he always has but lately he's been taking more. He thinks we don't notice...' Hizashi's mental voice cut off as he whimpered and curled into Chloe.

Chloe watched Joy leave with Julian, still frowning slightly. Although she had faith in Nurse Joy's abilities, she was still worried about Julian. The one thing she hated more than anything was to see a friend in trouble. It always made her feel so helpless. No amount of training or practicing would get her out of this situation.
She sighed, glancing down at Hizashi, "Is there anything you know of that I can do to help him?" she asked the Espeon.

The nurses were in the back working on Julian. It appeared as if his heart had suffered damage from the strain, as had most of his organs and muscle tissue. After a few hours one of the nurses wheeled Julian out to Chloe in a wheelchair. He was awake, though they had him heavily medicated. He smiled when he saw her. "Hey Chloe, we won the badge." He told her happily and tried to get out of the chair only to be pushed back in by a chansey.
Julian sighed and shook his head. "I'm fine, really." He insisted. The nurse just shook her head and turned to Chloe. "We don't know what caused this but his body seems to have been under some type of great stress. His internal organs and muscle tissue have taken alot of damage." She glared at Julian. "He needs rest, so try to convince him to take it easy, Every time we tell him how serious it is all he says is something about owing it to his pokemon." The nurse sighed and walked away, leaving Julian with Chloe and his pokemon.

"If you say so..." Chloe murmured, casting a worried glance to the front counter.
"So this has been going on for a while?" she inquired, "And if there's no sign of this stopping, then I know future battles will be harder. If what Kaya believes is true, there's a high chance that Notaro himself will be on Harmony Island, if he is trying to steal the vessel." Chloe shuddered, she didn't want to think of what would happen if Julian was caught in a fight against him.
"I know even myself with all my strongest in my team aren't powerful enough to even dream of taking him on yet..." she muttered.
She looked up as Julian finally returned, wheelchair bound. If he hadn't been so injured, she probably would have whacked him over the head.
"What on earth were you doing?!" she questioned.

Julian raised an eyebrow in confusion at Chloe's question. "I was having a pokemon battle, isn't that what we trainers are supposed to do?" he asked her in a playful tone and attempted to lift himself out of the wheelchair only to have Ookami nudge him back into his seat. "Why does everyone keep doing that?" he grumbled and rubbed his chest absent mindedly. It hurt a nit nut not that much thanks to the pain killers so it wasn't really bothering him.
He looked back at Chloe, finally realizing that she was really upset. "Chloe, is something wrong?" he asked in a semi frantic tone, now worried about her.

She's got some secret ninja code or something that holds her to her honor. Now if Giovani were still a gym leader, I might expect something like this... but not Janine."
"So if it wasn't her, that means its something with you. How are you able to take on the injuries of your Pokemon?" she finally asked.

Julian gulped and sat back further in his wheelchair. "So you noticed that?" he asked in a quiet tone, looking down at the floor. After a few moments he looked up at Chloe, his distraught expression replaced with a cocky grin. "Nothing is wrong okay Chloe. I'll be fine, there's nothing to worry about, I promise." He smiled again and stood up to prove his point before anyone could stop him.
Julian walked slowly over to Chloe and was about to hug her when his legs gave out and he fell forward, using Chloe to hold himself up. "No matter what happens I owe it to my pokemon to endure this Chloe. I owe pokemon my life and i will help them even if it kills me." His voice was serious while he spoke and suddenly turned joking again. "But it won't come to that. I've always felt their pain and I'm still alive. That was why I freaked out so bad on Iron Island when Nezumi got hurt remember?"

"Well it won't do anyone any good if you die," Chloe insisted with a grimace.
"That kind of thinking doesn't do anyone any good at all. You may think that its better off that way, sparing them the pain, but the pain of a lost friend is much more deep than the pain that any Pokemon battle could bring! How do you think that your team would feel, knowing that they were indirectly the cause of your death? And don't tell me that they wouldn't think of it that way. How would you feel, if someone died in your place, taking on your pain? How would that benefit anyone?"
"There's gotta be another way besides slowly killing yourself," Chloe muttered, "You may be able to recover this time, but what if the battle was just a little more difficult. What if Janine had won? How would the outcome of that battle affect you?"
"You say that nothing's wrong, when its dead wrong!" she insisted, almost frantically, "Its one thing to defend your friends. Its another thing to kill yourself willingly for them, and I'll bet its without any one of their consent!" Chloe tried valiantly to keep her voice low, to avoid any scolding from Nurse Joy, but it was getting increasingly difficult to keep calm when she noticed Julian's almost nonchalant attitude about his own wellbeing. Thankfully she didn't shake Julian, like she oh so wished to do at the moment. But concern for his injuries trumped concern over his mental state at the moment.
"You've got a really messed up way of seeing things," she spat, frowning at the boy. She was unsure of what she could do to change his mind.

Julian shook his head and sighed heavily. "It's not like that at all Chloe. I'm not taking their pain so that they don't feel it. I share their pain, every hit they take I take as well. We both do. I don't know why it happens and I don't have any idea how to stop it." His voice was beginning to sound a little frantic as well.
"I know they wouldn't want this to kill me." He looked around at his pokemon who were all looking at him sadly. He the looked back at Chloe. "I don't want to die either. I want to live but I'm not willing to give up battling Chloe. I can't, i owe everyone more than that. Especially with what is going on in Kaya's homeland. i can't just sit this out and my team and i need to get stronger for the coming battles."
Julian looked away from her and put his arms around chloe, burying his face into her shoulder. "It scares me more than you could imagine Chloe, acting the way I do is how I cope with it." He looked back up into her eyes, his own shedding tears. "But I can't stop what I'm ddoing Chloe, I just can't.. but I don't want to lose you either."

"So it doesn't lessen the pain on them at all?" Chloe asked, "That's even more stupid," she muttered, shaking her head. She didn't like pain no matter who was on the receiving end of it. Needless suffering made her even more upset.
"I can understand you not wanting to give up battling, but there's got to be a way to have it stop, or even just lessen the pain on you a bit. I mean, what if you get caught in a really hard battle?" she asked.
"And don't worry, I'm not gonna run out on you just because you're going through a tough time," Chloe shook her head, frowning slightly, "What kind of friend would I be then?"

Julian sighed softly and sat back in his wheelchair. "I'm sorry Chloe but I have no idea how to stop this. And to tell you the truth, I don't want to. Even though this scares the crap out of me i can't help but feel it's a gift. This helps me to better understand my pokemon and their limits." He smiled slightly. "Thanks to this I've learned to be a better trainer." he informed her.
Julian leaned back in the chair and winced. "I don't want to lose you Chloe, and when I said that before I didn't mean because you would run away. I meant because i would leave, for good." He hoped she would understand what he meant so he wouldn't have to actually say the words.
"Chloe, I really am sorry that you have to go through this with me. I hate that this hurts you." He shook his head, trying to dislodge the tears. "Please just bear with me. I'll try to limit my battles until we get to Kaya's homeland. I was planning on going to battle Sabrina before we left for Sinnoh again but if it helps you then I'll put it off."

Julian exhaled in relief, suddenly realizing he had been holding his breath almost the entire time Chloe had been speaking. "okay, I'll take things easy for a while. To be honest it really is a good idea. i don't know how much damage my body could take right now so i promise not to fight anymore trainers until we have to okay?" He told Chloe with a smile.
Julian then turned to his pokemon and grinned slightly. "Now that i know you are all okay maybe you should go back into your pokeballs for a while." he grabbed his pokeballs and returned them before looking back up at Chloe. "Do you mind if we stop by Mt. Coronet on our way back to Snowpoint. I kind of went through this battle mostly to catch a certain poemon." he admitted with a slight grin.

I've had NO luck whatsoever fishing in Hoenn. I caught more Wailmer and Tentacruel than I ever want to see in any lifetime," she muttered.
"And I don't have any problem with you battling. That's your decision to make. But just don't go off doing something like challenge the Elite Four just yet. You do that, and I really will whack you," she stuck her tongue out a Julian.
