They all kept looking at him! It was infurating. He half felt like going over there and demanding why, but would require talking to them and they were all mad at him for not getting in trouble. Well, they shouldn't have been so obvious in their actions. They got caught and he didn't. He wanted to glare or shout but instead turned back to poking his stick into the sand and sighing. He dug much harder and made sharp sensless lines. If they wanted to say something to him why didn't they come over and say it to his face. He hated being stared at like some animal in a cage.

Selma cast one more glance at the others around her, before biting her lip and taking the few steps over to where Vincent was. She tried to act brave, but the closer she got, the more her shyness took over and by the time she was next to him, she was looking down at the ground. She took a deep breath, and started to speak, but her words were mumbled and quiet, so that only a few were distinguishable.
"Vincent........lost.......grounded.....help," was all that anyone would have been able to hear, even though Selma heard the rest of the words as clear as bells in her own mind.

Huh? Vincent stared at the girl. She was the same height as him but her shoulders stayed hunched and her eyes to the ground. Her words were barely above a whisper and at that mummbled. Curiosity overcame his annoyance at being stared at. "What?" It was sharp and to the point though his curiosity also colored the syllable. It had to be important if one of them came to ask him something; they normally avoided him. Not that they didn''t have a reason...

Selma took a step back at his sharp question, but didn't run away. Instead, the redhead forced herself to meet his gaze and speak more clearly, though her voice was still soft and she shuffled her feet nervously.
"I lost my Bun outside when we were playing. Can you help me get him?"

A favor? Why couldn't they just go get it themselves? Vincent thought then realized that they had all just been grounded; he was the only one that wasn't being watched like a hawk. Vincent's first impluse was to turn her down flat but he thought a moment; despite from never talking to him, though she never talked much anyway, Selma had never done anything bad to him. He stared at her and thought a moment. "Where did you leave it?" He voice was more casual, less defiant than earlier. He might as well, it couldn't hurt him anyway.

Selma's nervous expression turned into a small smile, when Vincent asked where she had left her plushie. He was going to help her!
"Thank you Vincent!" she said, happiness evident in her soft voice. "I left him by the tool shed, where all those crates are piled up." At these words, her gaze was drawn behind the boy, where she could clearly see the tool shed though an unblocked window.

Vincent followed her gaze. He'd have to sneak out the front door and go half way around the building to get there. His heart sunk a bit, but he wasn't going to back down now. It wasn't that hard. But really, he'd never been out of the building at night...alone. And only once with a Matron. He looked back at Selma and blushed a bit; he'd never had a girl smile like that to him. It was kind of embarassing. "I'll go after they've put us to bed and I'll leave it outside your door." Vincent nodded. That had to be the longest thing he'd ever said to any of them. "I'll go tonight."

When Vincent said he would get Bun that very evening, Selma barely managed to contain her squeel of joy. It came out in a bit of a squeek and one of the matrons looked over suspiously at the sound. The redhead's hands flew to her face, trying to hide her uncharacteristicly wide smile from the matron's vision. To keep the matron from figuring out what they were planning, Selma released another of the squeeks, trying to pass them off as hiccups, using that aslo as the excuse for suddenly covering her mouth. After a few more "hiccups," the matron looked away, satisfied and Selma turned back to Vincent.
"Thank you so much!" she said again, whispering, and made to hug the boy. She stopped herself suddenly, however, realizing that he already looked uncomfortable, and settled for giving him another shy smile.

Vincent never lost his cool but when the shy girl almost wrapped her arms around him he felt like bolting. What had he gotten himself into. He wondered around a bit until the matrons ushered them towards their beds. They went without question, followed by scolds and lists of dissapointments. Soon he and Tali were pushed into their rooms, the small lantern lit and they changed into their pajamas. He would wait a bit now, until the Matrons stopped patrolling the hallways when they though the children were asleep.

After the matron had left them alone, Selma paced the small room, occasionally looking outside the window, for a sign that Vincent was indeed on his way to resuce Bun. She didn't even try to lay down, knowing that she would not sleep until the plushie was back in her arms. Her ears were consatly listening for the footfalls of a matron, however, knowing that if one of them came to check on the girls, she would have to quickly climb inot bed and pretend to be alseep.
