"That...I feel....." she shook her head, having no words to explain how she felt. It was if all her life she had grown up in one gravity range, and suddenly she was on a planet with a lighter pull. That was the closest comparison she could come up with, but it wasn't weight, it was something more internal, but...why? The drug had been recent, very recent and far in the future...

"Perhaps there was more than one dose in your system...though how it got there to begin with is still something I would like to know."

"Well, I know about the more recent one," she said, still trying to figure it out. "Vartra only knows where the older came from, though. Well, Vartra, and maybe grandma."

"I do not like the sounds of this." Hadrian eyed her, "What do you know that you're not wanting to tell me?"

"Plenty, we just met, we hardly got to talk yet," she said to him. She figured he probably meant about this, but...just in case...

"You are avoiding the question on purpose." Hadrian was not amused. "There can be only honesty between us. You can only lie to me for as long as I do not share your mind. I have not done so out of courtesy, but I do not like this game you think you play with me."

She sighed heavily and leaned back against the sofa. "I'm not trying to play a game, I'm trying to put off the moment when you are too annoyed to look at me," she said, her ears laying flat, vanishing into her hair. "I took the La'Quo myself."

Hadrian exhaled angrily, "You what? You poisoned yourself?! How could you do such a thing?! You could have overdosed yourself and killed yourself! Darkness take it!" He tried to calm down, "Why? Why would you risk your health so?"

Her tail curled in her lap and her shoulders shrank in on herself, and her ears were missing, and she looked down at her paws, seeming suddenly very small and very young. "To meet you," she said softly.

He reached for her paw, "But why? Why would you have to poison yourself? Surely there are other ways."

She looked at his hand over her paw. "La'Quo is a drug that affects different races differently, but for Sholans...." she sighed softly, head dipping a bit. "It has a lot of negative effects, but it also facilitates... certain abilities.... like time and space translocation. It's the only safe way to get to the past. For a relative definition of safe.

"Actually...." she said, wincing a bit, ducking her head so far her chin was practically at her belly, multijointed shoulders hunching in a way no human's could, despite the gesture looking very human at the base. "I have to.. to get us back to my family," she said in a tiny almost mute voice.

Hadrian was counting to ten in his head. "And then, no more of this drug. If I let you hurt yourself again...which is against my very nature...you will use it no more. And do nothing more that would put your health at risk. I cannot allow this sort of habit to continue."

"Once we are home, no more La'quo!" she agreed readily, nodding rapidly, ears barley peaking out of her hair. "Believe me, if it weren't the only way to get home, I'd never want anything to do with it again," she said emphatically, still not quite daring to look up at him. "No wonder it's illegal," she muttered at the end, not intending for him to hear.
