"Because running away is bad. But if you want to look at it that was as not wanting to be there anymore then lump your sister into the category, she ran away too." Giving the little elf a smirk. And then a smile as Nym went about asserting his territory. Wasn't that just admirable?
He struggled a little before snuggling against Zykariel in his hold, promptly going about loving on the child in almost aggressive to show fashion, poking with his nose and licking, latching his claws to his tunic.
"Yeah I think he did." Seemingly not picking up on Arthur's distress over the topic. And a dismissive wave of his hand. "But he was human and you know how they are. Fickle, ever changing, and not happy with themselves. But that was oh...five years ago?" Another shrug on the subject. "I wasn't seeing straight from being knocked for a loop. Besides...it's just a human, they get thiers in the end." Meaning that only lived a handful of years.

"I do." Giving a grin to Sevilin. "Sometimes we just don't want to be home anymore. That's what Daddy Kieran says. He says that we find our independent streaks and our own feelings clash with those of our parents so we strike out on our own in an attempt to find the life we most want. But sometimes we come back. You and Piper chose not too. I went back." She stood up slowly and cradled the draithix, then walked back over to the bag and settled the little creature inside carefully.
Zykariel wasn't quite understanding Nym's sudden need to lavish him with affection but he didn't mind at all, petting the ferret and giggling as his whiskers tickled his face. He did pull his tunic away from his chest so the little claws didn't poke at his skin. "I love you too Nym."

Arthur now was out of it, the thought of Big Jack and what he had done was really getting to him. "I think I need to sit down..." he muttered and slowly sat down on the ground right where he stood. Sighing slowly as he tried to control his body and mind from bawling out and losing control, he just couldn't do that in front of Piper it wouldn't be right, though suddenly the memory of that day when he lost his eye finally came up and at that time his hand moved up and touched his eye patch; the pain that was once there throbbed again and Arthur groaned lightly. "No not now..." he whispered and sighed lightly, he couldn't hear what else Piper had said because the pain in his eye was starting to bug him and the laughter of Big Jack was starting to fill his head.

Sevilin snickered and backed off, ruffling his son's hair though he was still worried about the boy and what he had been told...but damn Malik was right how Sevilin could use it to make the boy feel better...and he'd been told that he'd been seeking affection from Piper. Maybe it was time he said something. "Hey Zykariel, ready to go home for the day? We have some things around the house to do."
And Piper tilted her head as her attention turned to Arthur. "Are you okay?" Watching as he was more or less breaking down. It was almost like he was going to go into one of thsoe reveries where no one knew you were doing it but just thought you were going to sit around staring. "Hey Arthur?" Walking over to crouch down in front of him, raising her hand in front of him and then snapping her fingers loudly. "Arthur?"

Arthur groaned lightly and started to take deep breaths, in and out, in and out, very slowly or he would start to hyperventilate. God he didn't need this he really didn't need to see Big Jack, oh the pain, the pain in his eye! It hurt so much that he couldn't stop moaning in pain for a few days and after that it took him so long to get adjusted to just using one eye. Though when he heard Piper calling his name she slowly brought his head up to meet the elf's gaze and all she saw was a frighten look and one really wide eye that would close while his fingers were stuck in his hair. "He's the b*****d to took my eye..." He barely whispered and Piper couldn't even understand what he was saying. Lowering his head in silence he took a few deep before saying. "He's the b*****d who TOOK OUT MY EYE!!!"

Well well, it seemed that her and Arthur shared a thread of fate, didn't they? And he was freaking out about it too...this was what Malik had pushed him so hard for and had made Piper eventually understand...that needed to be prepared to live with things for a long time. Licking her lips in her thoughts she scooted closer and rested her hands on his shoulders, giving him a firm shake. "Snap out of it! You can't let something some human did to you break you down in a single moment." Then again she knew she was being a hypocrite...she had often done it over he ears and still kept them regularly covered if she could. "Get yourself together."

Oh great he just had to yell it huh? That was a dumb move on his part but just listening to that laughter brought back that painful memory of when his eye was pulled out of it's socket. The elf just needed t take a few deep breaths, he can get over this, he will get over this he had to or everything he has gone through would of been stupid. Though he felt some presence near him and in a moment felt someone's hands on his shoulders and got a nice firm shake from said person, looking up briefly Arthur saw that it was Piper who was shaking him, yelling at him to snap out of all this and not let that human keep him down. Taking another deep breath the young elf waited for a little while, so after a few moments had passed and he pulled his hands from his head so he could look at Piper square in the face."I'm sorry...just think of that man...his laugh...I thought it was all behind me for sure...sorry Piper..." With her help the elf was able to stand back up on his own two feet, after taking a small stretch Arthur looked back towards his friend and smiled lightly. "Thanks again for selling me Brahnel...but I'm sorry for bothering you with that moment about Big Jack...you didn't need to see that." Boy did Arthur feel embarrassed for breaking down in front of Piper, talk about an awkward moment.

"Yes.." He nodded and stood up patting Nym lightly as he was still latched onto the front of his tunic. "I think Nym wants to ride me home Daddy." He walked over to his father and lightly slipped his much small hand into the drow's larger one then waved to everyone. "Bye Aunt Lark, Khai, and Mr. Malik. I got to go home now but I'll be back."
Tugging Daddy over to teh door. "I bet Zara misses us and is real lonely in bed all by herself."
"Bye Zykariel, Sevilin." She plopped back against the couch and chucked Malikhai under the chin lightly before grinning at Malik. "I told you I would be back."

Seeing as daddy wasn't going anywhere, he assumed that that was a yes, he was done working. But his attention wained some back to Lharika as she went about putting the draithis up. Hm...maybe there was a pet opportunity in this. Though a grin as Lharika chucked him and then he slipped off the couch, disappered into the dinning room, then came back with the piece of paper that he had been writing on, standing more or less between Lark and Malik, holding it up over his head. "Look it!" Because his little self like validation on a good job writing in three languages.
She turned her attention back to the small group and from her surrounds. Giving Malik one of those little grins of hers that spoke of her love of blue. It had almost become a joke really. "Well well Malik, your son sports your look, it's simply fabulous I must say." Reaching into a belt pouch as she walked over to him, handing him what was obviously one of Kieran's journals. "All you need to know on a draithix." Then a pat to the bag over her shoulder. "And 'supplies' if you indeed intend to take them. All but extinct in Andal, Kieran thought that maybe you'd like your own batch here...they're useful after all."
Piper sighed and shook her head, was time for some tough love wasn't it. "Have you learned nothing Arthur? You're an elf...those kinds of things are going to haunt you for the rest of your life. It hurts to remember them, but they're never going to go away. And if you let them consume you so in your waking moments, I fear to think about them when reverie's make them happen all over again in full detail. You have to just...think abou it and accept it and that it will come back. You're a young elf, and every aspect of life is getting stored away...one day there will be more things to distract you from that. Maybe worse. One thing can't rule you. Take the advice from someone who's been in your shoes." And that was all she was going to say on it so as not to accuse herself indeed a hypocrite...and thus followed his change of subject. "You better enjoy him or I'll come after you. Coming back inside?"
As usual, Sevilin said bye to no one, merely led his son out of the place. "Oh let him ride you, I'm sure the change of vantage point is nice." Giving a chuckle as he held onto his son's hand before picking him up and a quick runic gesture later they were about ten feet from the house. "Well...how about you take care of her." And he was going to guage by her attitude if Zykariel needed to be in the house or not right now. "Hey, I wanted to ask you something...does it upset you that Zahara doesn't treat you like Piper?"

Arthur blinked a few times when Piper just sighed and shook her head, he had a feeling that a speech was going to come and when Piper start to talk he was right. So there he stood listening to the elf about how he shouldn't let this control his life and how he should just accept the memories and just move on with it. Though he was kind of surprised that Piper told him that she knew exactly what he was going through and her ear popped in his mind at the moment before he nodded. Though when she told him to take care of Brahnel or she would come after him he chuckle and smiled. "Don't worry me and Brahnel will be a great team." He paused for a moment to look back at his stallion and grinned. "I'll see you soon Brahnel! We'll take that ride sometime later today okay?" A long neigh could be heard and that made the elf grin lightly before he turned back to Piper. "Sure why not? I could use something to drink I'm a little thirsty."

"Be careful with the eggs, Isle. They're fragile." A look to the older elf before Malik caught her attention then, "Well they're Draithix. We thought there weren't anymore in Andal but Daddy Kieran discovered a new colony and thought you might want to breed them down here. He uses them as message carrier things but I got to have one for my pet." She grinned at Malik and then pointed to the book. "Daddy Kieran covered all the bases, that's what he does best." Lharika couldn't help it, she smiled at Malikhai. "Your mom's already teaching you different things hmm? Can I see it?"
He was quiet for a long, long time not quite sure what to say. He didn't want to upset Zara but Daddy asked him a question and he wasn't going to lie to him. "Well, sometimes. But Miss Piper says good things come to those who wait and if I'm willing to wait maybe she'll be ready." He said recalling his conversation with Piper. "But she lets me help her make cookies so it's okay. Why?"
Zahara was still in teh library thinking. She didn't know when the line had become blurred for her but somewhere it had. She was getting closer and closer to her son and he was hers. She admitted that freely, at least to herself. Well, hers and Sevilins. It gave her a fluttery feeling to think that she and Sevilin both had contributed to the charming, sweet, and often mischevious little boy and that she had cursed, no gifted, she reminded herself harshly him with her eyes. It was fitting she supposed, Sevilin liked her eyes, and to have a piece of herself so blatantly obvious in the boy. His mannerisms were mostly Sevilin's with his largely passive nature and only brief glimpses at her own hellacious temper and outbursts. She remembered cuddling him as a baby while he took his nourishment from her, depended on her and her alone to survive. Sure he could live off the formula but it wasn't nearly as good for him. She could provide what he needed better than anyone else could. That had been difficult for her to come to terms with and then turn around and walk away. Things were even rougher now that he was growing up and developing into a true person of his own now.
His smile was constantly the subject of her thoughts and she would often say something or suggest something just to see if she could coax it out of him. It reminded her so much of Sevilin with his little cockeyed grin and the sparkle to his eyes. So innocent, so carefree. Zykariel could laugh, smile and even cry. Real tears. He experienced pain, heartbreak and even loved. She remembered the first time he'd told her he loved her. It had been one of those rare nights when Sevilin was out working late because something had triggered his runics. She'd put Zykariel to bed, generally Sevilin's job and as she'd tucked the little boy's covers around his small body, he'd smiled sleepily up at her and said those four words that had frozen her inside for the rest of that night. "I love you Zara." Of course it was more of "Love you Zara" but the meaning was the same. It had been freely given, unconditional and only the boy's mind overtaking him in reverie saved her from responding. At first she'd consoled herself, telling herself he'd been confused and only gone with the normal ritual. THe words were just that. But he'd used her name in full conscious thought and knowledge of who she was. He didn't say it anymore since it had only upset her when he'd said it again one day while they were making cookies. She'd never told Sevilin about that time and she assumed the boy hadn't either but he hadn't uttered the phrase again, probably afraid of how she would react.
When he'd first been walking she'd almost died every time he fell down. Each scrape was blown highly out of proportion in her mind and the sight of blood pouring from scraped ebony skin was enough to undo her. Then he'd started to actually talk and the way he massacred Common could always make her chuckle or randomly smile. He loved the horses as much as she did and always could be found feeding or picking something up. His pockets were constantly full of cookie crumbs. Over the years that had become her contribution to his happiness. Instead of love she had provided cookies. Maybe that was why he loved them so much. In her mind she knew it could never compare but just like a drow he was going to take what he could get.
He was growing up so quickly, even for an elf. Now he played pirates and captured wenches or dragons and saved damsels. That in itself was the opposite of the games she had played as a child. When they played they were such games as Steal the Slave, Kick the Rat, or good old fashioned Tag...which was a full contact sport, usually with weapons. What she wouldn't give to keep his little mind innocent and never allow even the inklings of her and Sevilin's past in. She didn't want to see the world dull the light in his eyes or see their clear depths clouded with pain the likes he couldn't handle. She knew her own eyes held a wealth of scars and hidden insinuations, jaded and untrusting, Sevilin's were the same. But not Zykariel's and for that reason she had to stay away. She knew she did but dammit it was getting harder and harder every day. There were times she would give anything to just be able to scoop him up and squeeze him tightly, kiss away his tears and watch him smile at her and nestle his head against his chest the way he had done when he was little.
Piper really didn't realize how wonderful she had it. To be able to love on Malikhai, to be able to pick him up anytime she wanted just because...it was tempting to think about. There had been times she'd been 'busy' when he needed comfort just to try to keep herself separate and she hadn't admitted it to herself at the time but it had been a dagger's slice to see his shoulders slump and watch him find someone else. Her little boy begging for affection because his own mother wouldn't give it to him. Those were the times she hated herself and her own mother for making her what she was. She knew in her heart of hearts that her mother had left a deeper imprint than anyone else could believe. She had even caught herself about to hit Zykariel a few times when he was just being fussy and whining for no good reason or when he chose to argue. Her old nature creeping back up on her once again. It didn't matter what she did, she just couldn't change the past and contrary to what she'd told Sevilin hundreds of times...she couldn't let go either. And if she had to experience those bouts of hatred, grief, anger, and remorse to keep the clear light in her son's eyes, then so be it. If only it didn't come at such a high price....

He walked forward and handed her the paper. "Then you have to give it to daddy." Because he definatly wanted validation from his idol now didn't he? Of course he did. But yes of course waiting expectantly fro affection over his efforts and hard work from both elves.
He sighed. "I just wanted you to understand something...remember how you said Malik told you that me and Zahara are Llothian? Well...that means that your mother is also different from Piper in the way of...affections. That's why she doesn't cuddle you and all those things...she's not trying to push you away on purpose." As he mentally kicked his own a** for twisting it in the end there and turning it into a lie...perhaps Sevilin was trying to make himself feel better as well. "Which means...she may not ever be ready...Do you understand Zykariel?" This was hard.
"Alright then, let's head back inside Arthur." Heading back inside with Arthur in tow to rejoin the little group. Apparently Malik had joined them now and was being entertained with new information about something or other.

"Of course." She took the paper from him and looked it over then lowered it and met his gaze. "Wow, Malikhia, you can write in three languages? That's fantastic. I can only do two, this one and this one." Pointing to the paragraph of surface and Common. "'Daddy Kieran tried to get me to learn drow but it was hard. I didn't like it too much." Another disarming grin, "Pretty soon, you're going to be smarter than I am at this rate." Ruffling his hair before walking over to Malik and handing that paper to the boy's father.
Zykariel met his father's gaze, searching it though he didn't even realize that was what he was doing. "I know that Daddy. And she doesn't mean to make me sad but she still does. I don't even think she knows she does. Maybe I should tell her, think that might make her stop?"
He frowned as his father tried to crush his hopes yet save him disappointment all at the same time, though he didn't know that and shook his head. "No, Miss Piper said good things come to those who wait. I can wait. She will Daddy. Just gotta be patient."
