AniMajor In M&R, did we ever develop more divisions for calling those who think they are vampires "suckers"? And by "divisions" I mean terribly offensive terms? I know we did, for the life of me I don't think I cared enough to memorize them.

So, I get to play D&D for the first time in my life tonight.
I already have a backup character ready.
Her name is Korrahd. 1k Gold to the person who can tell me what class they are and why I picked it.

Have fun. I love playing D&D, and Gurps. I'm working on a Gurps game of my own, and hubby's working on a new D&D game.
3.5 or 4.0?

I know how to play the systems in Fate and White Wolf. Everything else, I follow the steps as I'm told them and have the person next to me tell me what to roll.

Yeah, I have no clue how to play any of the White Wolf games sweatdrop We tried the Mage one once but couldn't figure out the system and so went back to D&D. 4.0 is the most recent edition, and IMO it stinks. Took everything from 3.5 and turned it on it's head, took away what were core classes and races and replaced them with what were prestige classes and special races. I mean Tieflings are considered a base race now. How is a half demon a base race?

It's a base race now for the same reason half of the new base classes are bases, and the reason for the new combat system stuff - WoW. The new edition functions and feels like WoW on paper. If you don't mind that, it ain't half bad. But if you want D&D with proper oldschool mechanics and more RP, it's not as much fun as previous editions.

Shearaha We tried the Mage one once but couldn't figure out the system and so went back to D&D. Well there's you're problem. You started off on one of the more difficult games. Come on By, RP is never about the system itself. wink

Here's a hint for the contest. My first D&D character is named Edhelelen.
Tell you what- based on the name if you can tell me what her class is, you get 1k as well. But it has to be justified with a reason. I won't accept just the class. No sense in having folks guess through the list.

And the ones we don't have our friends do. I'd rather just keep playing 3.5 then spend hoards of money to get a new system I don't even enjoy. Regardless I still have GURPS, I don't forsee them chaning that core anytime soon. It's so basic as to be almost formless without expansion books. Can do anything from a hack and slash, to spys, to space travel.

The name sounds very elven and, at the risk of steriotyping elves, they make really good rangers. Rangers are also a decent starter class with a nice balance of spells and combat abilities, with the added bonus of an animal friend at higher levels.

Come on By, RP is never about the system itself. wink Whats a good White Wolf to start with then? For the five main games in order of ease of play I go VtM, WtA, CtD, MtA and lastly Wraith. I'm including mechanics as well as how hard the characters are to actually roleplay well- hence why Wraith is at the end. Vampire is really as simple as picking a race in D&D. Werewolf is as simple as picking a race and a class. Changeling gets more complex because not only do you have your whole "race and class" dynamic, but the "magic" is complicated. Mage is exceptionally fluid, so the "magic" mechanics are more complicated than anything before. As a result, it takes a familiarity with the system that can help develop bearings for the more fluid way the Mages interact with the world. Wraith isn't as complex in the system itself, but the roleplay between the character and it's Shadow can be challenging to pull off well.

No. The names of the characters are the major clues.

Thanks biggrin Next time I go up to the Gamers I'll take a look at the first 2. If I've got the cash after the 2 GURPS books I've been eying for the last 2 months ninja , and hubby's new minitures I'll pick one of them up.
