"You get one, it's pretty badass, just don't accidentally skewer yourself when you find it," said Chance mildly, which was most likely a completely unhelpful explanation of things. His eyes followed the other's progression as he made his way over to the table and picked up the sketchbook.
"At the rate you're going, you'll do just fine," said Chance cheerfully, and promptly plucked the sketchbook from Teddy's fingers, tucking it beneath one arm and ignoring the question entirely. "You can find your weapon in the Dark Cove, by the way, it'll be a nice little voice inside your head to deal with."
He smiled winningly.

Teddy wasn't one to be ignored. "What, I don't mind if its full of naked people and s**t or what is it, like your diary or something?" His fingers had for a second held onto the book as Chance pulled it away but he'd thought better of inciting a fight so soon after waking up. Besides, presumably Chance already had his weapon and he, Teddy, did not. "Whatever, man," he said finally, eyes moving from the book and settling with a mildly annoyed look on the whole of Chance. "Where is this Dark Cove? Anything else I need to do or is it okay for me to leave your pleasurable company?" The same winning smile was returned.

"There would be little point in me keeping a diary, and I wouldn't care if there were naked people in it, but stealing is rude," said Chance lightly, smiling at Teddy as though he were the most fascinating thing in the whole world and how delightful a human being he just was.
The annoyed look was received with amusement. "I'm so glad you find me pleasing, I do work very hard," said Chance breezily. "Follow the hall down, make a left, then another right, and then you'll see a set of double doors at the end. Go down them, and you'll find a staircase that'll lead you to the Cove."

"I would have given it back," Teddy shrugged, assuming still that despite what Chance said, there was probably something he didn't want strange eyes prying at in there. Teddy never believed anyone. As such, he was skeptical of Chance's given directions, but he really had nothing else to go on so he had no choice but to pay attention, eyes once again drifting towards the door. "Cool, sounds great. I don't, uh, have to come back here do I? You gave me all my stuff?" He had already started towards the door, and sounded hopeful.

He just gave Teddy the kind of smile that would have seemed innocent, were it not for the slight spark of amusement hidden within the depths of almost-black eyes. Chance leaned back against the desk, holding the sketchbook loosely against his chest.
"Your coat will be in your room when you find it," he said lightly, brightly. "Don't come back here, all you'll find is a grumpy tech on duty, unless you want to climb back into one of those pods."
Chance gave a wink, turned and slid back into the chair, propping his legs up and flipping the sketchbook back open, already losing himself in what he was doing.
"Good luck," was the last thing he said, giving a little wave over his shoulder.
(Unfortunately for Teddy, he'd been right; the directions that Chance had given him would lead directly to the broom closet.)

With all the manpower walking around on the island these days Peyton didn't often find herself on pod room duty. She didn't mind it, it was a rare break from her usual routine. A chance to soak in a bit of quiet, to read, to reflect, to just relax. Except, of course, when one of the pods started giving off urgent beeps. The sound made the dainty Sun jump, but she was up and out of her chair a second later with clipboard in hand, hurrying down the many rows until she reached a very dust covered unit not too far from the one Astrid had come stumbling out of. It looked as if the window on the door had been wiped clean, recently, but Pey had to brush away a layer of dust from the vitals screen so she could start jotting down the critical info. When she reached the name through, the girl stopped, eyes twitching towards the window as she let out a soft, involuntary "oh".

Awake or dreaming...? Quicksilver flashes in a waking mind, the rush of non-canned air hitting his face was a better jolt than the wretched alarm clock. "J'sus, shut tha's**t off..." He mumbled and slumped forward, legs unsteady and keen to drop him even as his mind was casting off the cobwebs, his eyes opening. It was like that weird falling-tripping feeling when one was almost asleep...only this time he really did stumble forward, out of..something? Not an alarm clock then. The hell? And there was a girl and she had a weird look on her face...where the hell was he? Something about the shadows... The last he could recall....no. There were flashes of shadows and pain and his mind snapped such things tightly shut for the moment. "Hnn...where'm I?" Andy's voice was thick and rough from long disuse and he was having a bit of trouble focusing on Peyton properly. "An' who're you?"

God, they even looked the same. Except for the eyes, Jordan's eyes were softer. Peyton looked up at the young man patiently as consciousness came back to him, kindly turning the alarm off as requested. The questions were expected, they were the same ones they all asked, so the Sun smiled gently before answering. "I'm Peyton, and this is Deus Ex Machina.
"You probably don't remember this yet, but you volunteered to come here. We're an organization setup to protect humanity from those forces that wish to harm it." It was a lot to take in, so she paused there, waiting for that to sink in, waiting for more questions.
Inconspicuously she drew her phone out of her pocket, holding it down beside her leg.

Andy peered down at the tiny woman, brows furrowing as his brain slowly booted up and started processing information again. "The shadows...right?" He could vaguely remember something about the shadows he and Jordan had always seen. "I'm Andy. Andrew." Deus Ex...so familiar... There was no reason for Peyton to be lying to him, plus her words rang true. Andy believed her. This place was Deus Ex, they stood against the bad guys...and he had volunteered to be there. He looked around a bit, noting the rows after rows of...holding...things. I'm a pod person...With both hands braced against one of the pods for support, he shuffled forward just a bit before straightening. A slight bit of vertigo hit and he bent back over, one hand going to press over his eyes. "Is this..normal?" Blessed Virgin Mary but he could use a glass of water, maybe some aspirin. His head ached in a strange way and every time his eyes closed for even a second more flashes of...memory? jumped out at him. It was a dream, a joke...right? No way he'd dressed up with bunny ears and fought monsters, eaten macaroons and been to Wonderland. Right? Right. But then other flashes came through - Jordan, dressed in a coat similar to the one that Peyton was wearing...Jordan, with two other guys. His brother, looking shell-shocked and stunned and-- Deus Ex. Hunters. Jordan was there. With a sudden lurch and wild-eyed expression he reached for Peyton. "Jordan. Miller. He's here, isn't he!? do you know him? I dreamed-- Jordy's here-- I know he's here! I gotta find him!" Watch in awe as the six foot derpchild tripped over his own feet and fell face-first to the floor. See him swearing at length in Spanish while putting himself to rights with limbs stiff from disuse. Marvel at his single-mindedness and gloriously uncoordinated self.

"Yes, the shadows." Confirmation came with a nod, the twitch of glossed lips. "And yes, this is normal. You've been in a suspended state for a long time. You're going to want to give your body a couple of moments to get used to being alive again." For lack of a better phrase. She remembered. It'd been years now, but she still remembered how awful she'd felt when she'd stepped out of the pod. Taking it easy was the best way of handling it.
Apparently Andy had other ideas. He lurched forward, stumbled, and wound up on the ground before Peyton could catch him. "Hey!" A hand on his shoulder, holding him down easily before he could climb to his feet again. "I know your brother, he's here, just stop for a minute and sit." There was a command to her voice that was hard to rebel against. All the same, she kept her hand on his shoulder, holding him in place.
On her phone she pulled up Twitter, thumbing over the screen before she tapped in a hasty message.

It only took a few minutes before the pod room door opened and quick footsteps could be heard hurrying in. "Pey?" Jordan called. "Where are you? What's going on?"

Technically, he heard her admonition to take it easy. Technically. But Andy had always been a bit hot-headed, a bit fool-hardy - it had been Jordan that balanced him out, kept him from jumping the shark. But Jordan wasn't there - or rather, his current source of aid came in the form of a petite young woman that he didn't know from Adam - and even though he felt like death warmed over and his head was pounding...he couldn't help himself.
"He's...thank Christ." Air whooshed from Andy and his hand twitched reflexively, as though to cross himself even; The blond grit his teeth and refrained from attempting to stand, allowing himself to be ordered about because damn if suddenly Peyton's tone didn't bring his Auntie to mind. So he sat, leaning back against a still-filled pod with his head pressed into his hands while he struggled with memories, a reawakened body and the surge of adrenaline that was making his pulse thud heavily in his ears. "Nng...'s there water?"
Maybe he'd feel less like s**t if he got some water? Wait, had she said getting used to being alive again? How long had he been inside that goddamned pod? Andy gazed side-wise at the container he'd left, shuddering slightly at how...small and confined it was. Never again.
Whatever else he might have thought was choked to silence when a voice - so familiar it hurt - hit his ears. A voice calling for the girl. Jordy's voice. Andy tried to speak but his stupid throat was dry and he felt like s**t and his voice cracked and instead of calling for his brother he croaked like a frog. A very disgruntled - but excited - frog.

When she was surr he wasnt going to try to get up again Peyton turned her attention a little more directly to her phone for a moment. She was frownin h down at the screen, eyes narrowed and lips pursed, then just as abruptly she stashed it back away in her pocket so she could sink down to crouch before him.
Light fingers on the side of his face, his neck, checking vitals, before Jordan's voice cut through the quiet and Andy gave a croak in response. "Stay," she reminded him soundly, looking at him sternly.
"Back here, Jordan!" She didn't get up, just raised her voice loud enough to be heard.

Pey's voice sounded like it was coming from the row Andy's pod was in, and Jordan's guts suddenly went cold and watery. He braced himself for the worst and jogged back toward the back of the room. In his mind, Ferros's presence wrapped around his thoughts.
They rounded the end of the row. Pey was there, her hand on someone's shoulder, someone sitting on the floor, and it took Jordan almost a full second to register who the other figure was, that the pod door was open, and he stumbled in shock, caught himself, and ran down the row, skidding to a stop and folding down to the ground to grab his brother in a bearhug, whispering hoarsely, "Oh my God."

He submitted to her wellness check without comment and merely quirked a brow at the stern "stay" leveled at him and started to open his mouth to try talking again - but Peyton spoke instead, calling his brother over and for that he was extremely grateful. Grateful enough to give her a bit of a smile, even!
Jordan's steps came closer and closer, faltered and sped until the sun hunter had his arms around Andy and was crushing the life out of him. He couldn't have been happier. "Jordy--" His arms went around his sibling and hugged back, weaker but firm and he pressed his head against the crook of Jordan's neck like he had as a small child, shuddering. "Wasn't a dream."
But boy did his brother look different - by God he was changed. Even from the not-dream. "I feel like s**t," he whispered and wasn't ashamed to realize fat tears were slowly dampening Jordan's shoulder. He'd never thought to see him again - never thought, well...he still wasn't sure about all the things he'd no doubt remember when his brain kicked in 100% again, but he did remember the heartache of having to choose - protect his brother or stay by his side.
Not that it'd worked. Obviously. Or Jordan wouldn't be crushing his ribs. Can't leave you alone for a second. Jordy you s**t you were supposed to stay safe-- Even knowing the tiny, pretty girl was there, watching them wouldn't keep him from crying over it all.
"How...long?"
