Kichiro Oda One is a human that can use materia, but primarily uses guns and swords. Another is demonic that uses primarily guns, another is a type of demon that uses swords. There's diversity. You know, I never heard it put that way before.

I mean if you look past whatever games or TV shows the character might have been in, in the end, that IS what you get. In its simplest form, their execution might be similar, or reach a similar extreme. But the base concepts are infact diverse. 3nodding

Poppy cupcakes!
How about giving extremely general statistics to characters, and allow everyone to compare them together instead of a rigid, complicated ranking system?

I also vote for this. The grid one, not the bar one. Because it's more awesome. And I'm sure someone will make one that has null on most stats but off the chart on one.
