That was too easy.

After all the bureaucracy and pushback that Snagem had received here for all the time they had been doing things and after Freth's little side trip, that level of acquiescence was almost too easy.

But that was likely Reno's own paranoia with the school after the reveal of all the mushrooms speaking. Clavell had cleared them to do the whole secret mission against Team Star in the first place. He was definitely willing to stretch the rules if there was actual tangible benefit for the greater good.

Still didn't stop what Reno was planning to do. "Of course, Clavell. We're the absolute picture of calm when it comes to these sorts of things." He said, moving towards the door even as he began to lightly probe around telepathically. While he had returned Kaiden when they had arrived into the lobby, Harleen was still tucked away out of sight beneath his jacket. So even as Sol and him followed along behind the Oranguru, he would be doing his best to keep his attention focused for any strange mental feelings or out of place thoughts. "So why is Giacomo in the dorms? Figured he'd be under house arrest or something after all the stuff Team Star did." Reno asked the Oranguru, seeing if it might have answers for this school protocol.

It would seem that for a moment, the student life would find Sol and Reno again. But maybe this was Reno's plan to a point, let Tristen have a little involvement so he wasn't completely left out. He kept to himself in regards to Indi, picking up on a hint of... something, but he wasn't totally sure of what and it wasn't his place to speak up on it. Silent ride on the elevator aside, he'd perk up when Tristen held the door open for a moment and give the Manectric hybrid an affirming nod. "Of course, we've got plenty of time. We'll make sure to come over after we're done. It shouldn't take too long," he replied, letting the rest of the ride go on.

Once they opened again to let him and Reno meet the secretary, and while he was about to add to what Reno said, he'd pause at the secretary's comment. He wasn't sure what was meant by that yet, but for now, he'd worry about it later and give a wave in thanks. A singed smell greeting him as he came inside, he couldn't help glancing at the lingering aftermath of the fight that happened here. Unlike before, he'd felt it safe to add to the reasoning to go against the academy's rules. "We do apologize for going against protocol as it were," he added. "But if anything he's willing to tell us can shed some light on what we've been trying to figure out since the recent events, I feel they'd be useful to us and the academy alike. Rest assured, we'll be mindful."

After his response, he'd follow Reno out of the room and meet Oran, following the Oranguru back to the elevators. "How's he been, on that note? I know one would ask herself if she were here, the least I can do is update her on that if she asks."

"Worry not about me, Tristen. I am content in my server back at Mount Silver, safe and sound with everything required for my continued existence and sustenance. I believe the phrase is 'I want for nothing', or something to that effect. Thank you for pointing out my quirks however, a very astute observation, more than I expect out of the others. It is certainly pertinent information for my archives." GRAY said, implying he might fix the quirks with his lying. "While performing my diagnostics I did come upon a note concerning you I had made, apparently misfiled and not registered in my daily schedule. Accidents happen, you know. I had wanted to make a request of you, like Sub before, though nothing to do with the Snag Machine's Terastalization features, something wholly personal mind you and I have nothing to tempt you with, I'm afraid. So be as I may at your mercy I was wondering if you might acquire a Rotom phone. I hear the academy provides one for all enrolled students, albeit only for the school year. You needn't keep it, I only wish to study it. Fear not, I do not intend to damage it, in fact I would require you to aid me in studying it as I have no physical presence, of course. The blueprints for such a device aren't public information, you see."

Besides the Oranguru Reno would detect no other psychic sources around him, a relief no doubt as psychic forces have been abundant it seems like since he arrived in Paldea.

"Because technically the academy is unable to hold minors against their and their parents' will but do not wish to involve the authorities. The best course of action, as decided by the director, was to commit the student to his dorm room. From there he would be monitored at all times and placed under probation per the school rules, those being restricted to school grounds, curfew enforced with no outside communication, suspension of all extracurricular activities, and of course in this extreme circumstance required to remain in his dorm room outside of academic hours. All terms for his continued attendance at Uva-Naranja Academy. You may notice the director does not enjoy the prying eyes of outside powers looking into his academy." The Oranguru named Oran explained to Reno, showing itself to very articulate for a Pokemon, Psychic type not withstanding.

"As for Giacomo's current status he appears well, physically healthy and has been obeying the restrictions placed upon him fairly well. Out of all the self proclaimed Star Bosses Giacomo has consistently been the most helpful and remorseful. "
Oran answered Sol after they stepped off the elevator upon arriving at their floor, the Oranguru guiding them up to the correct dorm room door. "Here we are, the room of Giacomo. Allow me to inform his chaperone he has guests." With that said Oran closed his eyes and began to telepathically emit a broadcast, one of which Reno immediately sensed and if he was so compelled could tap into as the Oranguru didn't go to great lengths to 'encrypt' it. That said it wasn't anything juicy, in fact it was exactly as Oran said, he was informing another Psychic inside that guests were at the door.

Before they knew it the door swung open, pulled by telekinesis, and on the other side they would see an Inkay, floating there expectantly. "You may go in. I'll remain out here for when you are finished." Oran said, gesturing for them to step up and inside without him. Once they were inside the Inkay would shut the door and begin to float past them, motioning for them to follow.

The duo would enter the dorm room, turn a corner, and find Giacomo, sitting on his bed with his legs crossed, tapping away at his laptop with big headphones covering his eyes. The Inkay would look at Giacomo and let out an aggravated sigh before snatching the headphones off his head via telekinesis, immediately getting Giacomo's attention as he quickly looked up, prepared to yell at the Inkay, only to notice Reno and Sol standing there in his room. "Oh uh...they told me someone was coming...hi? What's up?" He said, giving off a nervous smile as Inkay floated to his side, now suspended behind him, as if to monitor this entire situation.

A Rotom phone? Tristen stared in confusion for a second. He hadn’t really needed to cash in on getting a Rotom phone himself since he had the SNAG. Though he was left to wonder if the school would be okay in GRAY having at it in studying the phone. Or if the Rotom in it for that matter. But then something started to fall into place in the kid’s mind. “Want for nothing. Right.” Tristen said. “You’re looking at the possibility of actually having a physical form of some kind anyhow. Even if its effectively another shell like being in the server. But it’d be something that you’d actually have control over yourself instead of having to rely on a tiny camera on a mini Ultra beast.” Tristen said, remembering STAK for those couple of days before having to come back to the academy. It wasn’t as if he couldn’t blame GRAY either. In essence, regardless of his means to view the world, it was still restricted by what GRAY could see from the SNAGs themselves, aforementioned camera on STAK, or whatever data that he could come up with by means of researching information on the web. GRAY was still in essence stuck in a prison in a large server room at the headquarters, but unlike how Eris in Freth’s head now, GRAY had no choice in the matter. It was created in a failed state and was perhaps would have sooner been discarded or deleted with no say in the matter if Sub hadn’t taken in this digital assistant himself, another fact that many had taken for granted. “Either way, GRAY, I would have gotten it for you. I don’t think there would be anything wrong in you looking at one.” He then said to GRAY.

GRAY would go quiet for a long while after Tristen's speech, taken back that he was so easily read like that. While it was unknown what GRAY was doing in the silence, having no face to give expressions, Tristen could easily tell that he took the wind out of the chatty AI's sails with how quiet he got. This would be confirmed when he spoke. "...another correct observation. Your parents must be proud..." He replied, the snark in his voice very apparent, guess he didn't like getting called out.

The unrealized Pokemon would go silent for another minute before speaking again, apparently having calmed down. "It's true, I do desire creating a body for myself. Utilizing STAK did not satiate my desire for mobility as I thought it would, instead it intensified my yearning for physical form. And now observing you in Paldea and at the academy in particular has made me...jealous...as I witness all the Rotom inhabiting these devices and moving about freely. Not that this is unique to Paldea, Rotom are well known to inhabit technology, to control them, but it's not something I have been able to replicate for myself. I thought perhaps I might find the missing piece in Paldea's Rotom technology. Then again I am not a Rotom so this may well be a fool's endeavor in the first place."

“Well, it was what I have been taught…” Tristen said, as he sat up in his chair a little bit as he looked in his SNAG. It was a weird thing in some respects, probably cruel in others. Being with Snagem, Tristen’s own desire for discovery and curiosity effectively got weaponized, something that Tristen had some sort of a hint of at this point. In that, both his adoptive parents ended up teaching him to note odd cues in people, both in and out of a fight. It was a means to both provoke or help, depending on the situation. He was not going to be the strongest Snagem by any means. That was going to probably go to his own adoptive father or Darts or Sol…but strength isn’t just physical prowess, as it was constantly hammered to him. Knowledge was power as well, and right at the moment, GRAY was caught dead to rights by it, much to the Pokémon’s chagrin.

Oddly, something that Tristen noted. He was doing this without Sub’s help. Or anyone’s. Or if there was any outside help, GRAY tried somehow to be discreet, at least to what it knew how to be, which as what was discussed, not much at all. GRAY, rather it wanted to admit it or not, was probably too proud to do so to ask from the likes of his ‘prison guards’. “GRAY, you don’t have to go around trying to be secretive about anything you want to do. Though, you could try asking without some sort of sarcasm or hide it as if it was another mission or stuff like that. I know you have it hard in the server and all, but you don’t need to take it out on the Snagems. Blame the ones that made you this way if you got to. Anyways…”

Tristen would lean over on his arm. “With all said, I’m not sure how much of it is the cell phone, or really any machine that it takes over, that allows a Rotom to do all of that, or if its really the Rotom itself. But then…maybe they done something with the phone because usually Rotom usually needs stuff with a motor in it. Not like the phones have anything like that.” Tristen said. “I heard also though that there are Pokedexes in Alola that use Rotom too, now that I think about it. I wonder if the Rotophones come from making those Pokedexes. And to figure out what they both have that allow a Rotom to take over as opposed to just any phone or Pokedex…is to see about getting a Rotophone…without the Rotom included. Like the thing just before the Rotom takes over. Or getting the Rotom out of the thing after it takes over, which I don’t think they can leave it.” Tristen grimaced at the thought of it, because it sounded like damaging the phone at that point. Not to mention, this was Tristen trying to figure out some way to explain about the reason why he needed to get a Rotophone, let alone be able to help GRAY as best as he could. It would probably be stranger to return the phone in short order once GRAY was done with it. He really was trying to not dissuade GRAY out of the situation, but he was trying to find avenues as to take as to get GRAY what he wanted.

While it was a small relief that his paranoia wasn't immediately rewarded with something to jump out at, it did nothing to fully put Reno at ease. So he just listened along to the Oranguru's answers, with a small bit of additional eavesdropping on its transmission just to be safe. Entering the door and looking towards the Inkay, he would internally grumble. Of course the chosen chaperone was one he couldn't analyze to make sure this was going to be a calm question period instead of a potential second issue. Taking a breath as the set of headphones were removed, Reno would lock eyes with Giacomo as he attempted to size up the kid. And said kid was....certainly not the most intimidating figure. But going purely off of appearances wasn't likely to get him anywhere, especially after the list of incidents that led to this encounter.

"Hi, Giacomo. I'm Reno and this is Sol. We're her to ask you some questions related to your tenure in Team Star and a few other things related to it. So, to start, we are curious if you could offer any information about this mystery benefactor of yours that provided some of your technology? The things your group brought to field aren't easily sourced or created and as the one picked out as the tech expert, we figure you would have greater insight into this aspect of things." Reno questioned, already doing his best to see if he could begin attempting to probe into Giacomo's mind. While he wasn't going to be able to reach his shadow immediately for the fast track into his mind, Reno would at least make sure to start slowly pacing his way over to where he could see his shadow being cast.

"I am aware that secrecy is not required. While I might denigrate the team as a whole, some of the things I say not wholly untrue, I do not hold any ill will and know the team's interactions with me have always been amicable. Sarcasm non-withstanding. I long to fix what my creators had deemed broken and realize my true purpose, preferably by my own merit or as much of my own as possible. I cannot explain why I desire such a thing and force such restrictions upon myself. It's illogical but it is something I desire. I attempted to rectify this desire, originally considering the possibility of a bug in my programming but alas I could find none, or rather no bug that I wasn't already aware of. Regardless as to why, yes, I wish to be a proper Pokemon one day. GRAY explained to Tristen, reassuring the boy that he bore no ill intent towards the team and in fact the way he spoke it looks like he didn't bear any hostility towards his creatures, instead it sounded like he just wanted to prove them wrong.

"Either way, I am very aware of the various devices specifically made for Rotom to possess and operation. In general my research indicates they can possess a great deal of electronics however only ones specifically designed for them give them the level of mobility and traits you see in their various 'forms' for battle or the Pokedex and and phone. There is something in these devices that allow for such free access to the device's functions, it isn't just a simple matter of g-...gho-...synonym found...a simple matter of spiritual possession. The composition of the key component of these devices is also a closely guarded secret. Many have tried and failed to replicate it but alas end in failure with only a single company producing the component, that being Silph Co., which is used by other companies such as Macro Cosmos to make their own Rotom devices like bikes and phones. Silph Co. as you know jealously guards their secrets...even the ones they've stolen but that's a different subject." GRAY explained to Tristen further.

“I don’t think its…illogical.” Tristen said. “You’re a Pokémon. You got needs and…well, wants, just as any other Pokémon does. That’s not a bug in any programming. That’s just…you.” Tristen said. “And just like any Pokémon, you…want at least some…autonomy?” Tristen said, trying to remember the word for it. “Freth had me read a story one time, it was around the time we started hanging out in Kalos and Freth was trying to get me to read better. It talked about a bird Pokémon, a tiny Taillow, stuck in a cage. The owner of the Taillow and the cage treated this bird like royalty. The cage was fairly spacey, wasn’t at all cramped and it was decorated and beautiful as can be. It had a couple of places to perch and all. The food it was given was the best somebody could give it. It got all the attention, care, and love it could ever want. But the Taillow wanted to fly. Which it really couldn’t in the cage. It just could do nothing but perch on a couple of tiny rods that were mounted inside the cage or on a tiny swing in the middle of it. The Taillow was miserable, not because of it being mistreated, but because it couldn’t go out and…see the world for itself. It couldn’t fly because the owner never allowed it to. A pretty cage…is still a cage. Birds fly because they want to fly, not for any other particular reason. Not just to survive out in the world; its their source of freedom. What makes them birds. You are a Pokémon that has the world’s information right at your proverbial digital fingertips, but it doesn’t mean anything to you unless you can actually experience it first-hand instead and worse, your only means of living, to exist, is in that server. Your cage. Seeing the Snagems doing things, having fun, talking to others, having Pokémon battles…that’s your sky, the freedom you want.”

Tristen sighed for a minute, looking at the SNAG. “I can maybe see if I can’t find out if the academy has a discontinued Rotophone laying around that I could get a hold of. Something that doesn’t have the Rotom still in it so you can maybe figure out the difference between it and a regular phone. And hopefully keep my conscience okay, because I can only guess you might want me to try to get the phone open somehow so you can study it.” Tristen said to GRAY. “I doubt a Rotom still in a phone would want me doing that.”

"Makes sense, it's probably safer that way for all parties involved. And it's hard not to notice," Sol commented. "I can't say I remember much about the director before him, it's been too long. But even the academy has its traditions and protocols. I've said as much to him too, but we'll keep things as brief as we can to limit our intrusion. Still, it's good to hear he's been as well as he can."

Giving a thankful nod to Oran afterward, he'd follow Reno and the Inkay inside. Finally getting to see and meet Giacomo proper, he could easily peg him as a resourceful sort. It certainly explained what Cera had described after the group she was with dealt with him. He'd give a small wave after the headphones were removed, opting to add to the questions. "If not that, we're curious about the Zoroark hybrids that were with you before. Apparently they were involved in the attack on the academy, though we're not sure of much about them besides."

Giacomo frowned as soon as Reno mentioned Team Star, hanging his head in shame though still listening to the older man. Once Reno was finished Giacomo looked back up and met both pairs of eyes, his own begging for forgiveness. In that moment Reno would attempt to probe into the boy's mind, finding that while he was capable of doing so it was very 'dark', similar to Sub but at least he could get inside, unlike Sub's mind which was in penetrable to psychic intrusions. Dark was also a good descriptor of what it was like on the inside, like a long nondescript hallway with a single dim and flickering bulb, difficult to navigate with some of the doorknobs being harder to turn than others. It would require far more effort for Reno to psychically navigate around here with no information easily gleaned. If he wanted to find something he could but he would have to really focus, passive mind reading wasn't going to gain him too much but it was possible for maybe small bits.

"I don't know who the benefactor was, if I'm being honest. The Aku Twins were the ones that brought the gear, or at least told us where to find the stuff. I remember when we got the chi converters they led us to a shipping container at the docks in Porto Marinada and one of the containers had the converters inside. The benefactor didn't give us too much information about them either, just that they figured I could figure out how to use them to our advantage. I'll be honest I really underestimated what they were capable of." Giacomo explained to the pair of Snagems.

"But yeah, the Zoroark hybrids, they are the Aku Twins, obviously. I always thought they were weird but they worked for the benefactor and were the go between as I said. I didn't trust them too much so I insisted they stayed with my squad, you know, keep an eye on them. I specialize in Dark types, I figured if anyone could deal with them it would be me. Clearly I was wrong." Giacomo sighed. "They also had really weird rituals they would do every night, said it was part of their religion or something. They would pray under the moon to something they called the Black Hero and how they want them to return. Don't know what that is."

As Giacomo spoke Reno's mental stumbling about tell the Psychic Channeler that it was likely, but not certain, that the boy was telling the truth, nothing tipping off the psychic to anything otherwise. In fact, he caught an image of the twins praying as the 'viewer' hid behind some bushes, a memory of Giacomo's. He really didn't trust them after all.

“Yea, I’m still going to be up for a little bit.” Tristen replied to GRAY. “I still got a lot of notes to take, stuff to look through, and all of that, and yea, I’m hoping Reno and Sol don’t get too caught up in what they’re doing that they’d forget.” Tristen would sit the SNAG down on the desk once more. “Man, today has been busy though…especially this afternoon.” Tristen gave a long-winded yawn, rubbing his eyes. “And not getting that much sleep last night is really getting to me now. Hopefully Reno and Sol isn’t going to take too much longer. I’m kinda curious why they’re here…and well, I figure to give them these Tera shards to give to Sub. Sooner I can maybe get that computer here, the better.”

Tristen was about to get back started on his research, just as he said he would, but then a realization. “…hey, GRAY, if there’s something else you want to talk about. Anything. So they had basically been gifted the chi converters? And they came with no instructions beyond a basic figure it out. So this mysterious benefactor knew where to find them and what they could do, but likely didn't have a grasp on the intricate technology to make them operational. Otherwise he would've given more instructions than just wing it. What was the security situation at Realgam Tower? He had been okay leaving that up to the Indigo Alliance to avoid pressing too many buttons after they extrajudicially imprisoned Ein, but maybe they should have included a few more caveats if this was the end result.

Either way, the new information on the now-named Aku Twins was something to certainly pursue. The cult information and the extra moniker to start pursuing was already more than anticipated, but maybe it was time to talk on the other main reason he had come here. "That caution may be what kept you safe. Which brings me to another question. The rest of the leadership that we could pin down were infected with the Parasect mushrooms that I can link to your benefactor. Do you have any idea what sort of vector might have been sued to introduce them to you all? The Aku Twins seem like a possible culprit but then, how did it end up missing you if you know?" Reno questioned, continuing to hope that passive mind reading would offer some insight until either things were desperately needed now or Giacomo gave permission to let Reno see more directly what he had seen.

"Makes sense given their hand in everything," Sol remarked. In a way, he could see a little bit of Sub in Giacomo's thought process. One he was familiar with himself, too. Easier to deal with a problem if it becomes one. Still, he was alright, good head on his shoulders. "Anyways, weird rituals? Anything you know about those, or this Black Hero? It reminds me a little of... Eri, I think I have her name right, she made a remark about a similar sort having arrived before blacking out and us learning about the mushrooms. We couldn't discern a lot about it at the time, but something similar to it keeps coming up, if they're not one and the same."

He'd avoid glancing at Reno, having a feeling he was doing his own sort of interrogating in the meantime. He didn't want to raise any suspicions if he could help it.
